These are the easiest to push and, in many cases, will be the first choice for ease of movement.
Nylon Wheels (left image) are the most popular choice as they will not damage solid compacted floors such as cement
or tile and have a good load capacity.
Castors & Wheels
Usually a rectangular or square plate with 4 fixing holes
Cast Iron Wheels (right image) combine strength and shock resistance with long life and economy. They will withstand
extremes of temperature but may cause floor wear and can be noisy.
Expander Fixing
Resilient Tread Wheels
Weight Load
Considerations
To be sure that the load capacity of individual castors is sufficient to safely handle the equipment to be carried it may be
useful to note the following.
Based on equipment which is fitted with 4 castors, take the weight of the equipment plus the weight of trolley or mount
and divide this figure by three, this will give you the load capacity of each castor. (This formula builds in a safety factor
for variable operating conditions.)
Load Capacity of Castor =
Load + Weight of Transport Equipment
3
These are kinder to flooring, although may need more effort to move.
Polyurethane Wheels (left image) have good load carrying characteristics. High strength and abrasion resistance give
these wheels a life of up to 10 times that of rubber.
Rubber Tyred Wheels (right image) are available in a wide range of sizes and load capacities with a choice of Nylon,
Plastic, Cast, Iron, Aluminium and Pressed Metal centres. Non-marking tyre options can be offered. Suitable for most
floors.
