Situation
The Gate Riverplace Tower is a 35 story office building, which
is prominently located in the downtown Jacksonville, Florida
skyline. The building was originally illuminated by 48 - 1000
watt mercury vapor fixtures, which happened to have been
made by Sterner Lighting in the late 1960’s. To conserve energy,
the owner/engineer decided to upgrade the current lighting
system with a more efficient system consisting of 40 - 400 watt
pulse start metal halide Sterner 595 fixtures. Due to the high
quality and long life of the original Sterner Lighting fixtures, the
replacement product was an easy choice.
Product Recommendation
Sterner Lighting’s products stood the test of time, as they
had been working well since the 1960’s. The only reason the
lighting system was replaced was to upgrade to a newer, more
energy efficient system. The Sterner 595 fixtures not only saved
energy, but were able to improve the light levels on the building,
providing more drama, and did so at a lower wattage and with
fewer fixtures.
