Media Release – Opera Australia NEW YEAR’S EVE 2012
A Cultural New Year’s Eve!
Opera Australia presents two dazzling events plus parties to celebrate NYE
Celebrate New Year’s Eve with Opera Australia and make this your most glamorous and memorable night ever! For
the first time ever, Opera Australia will present performances in both major theatres of the Sydney Opera House.
The famous Opera Gala will dazzle audiences in the Concert Hall, while next door at the Opera Theatre, the awardwinning
Gale Edwards production of La bohème has its Opening Night. This New Year’s Eve will be all about high
drama, glitz, glamour and spectacle – on stage and off! Drinks and dining options complete the night, including
exclusive access to the Northern Foyer for the city’s best view of the fireworks. See in the year with Opera Australia,
and have a grown-up NYE!
The Opera Gala at Sydney Opera House Concert Hall brings music-lovers
to the heart of the drama and to one of the best vantage points in the
city to experience soaring arias and a memorable NYE. Join the
Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra under the baton of Andrew
Greene as Opera Australia’s best-loved artists including OA mezzo
soprano Milijana Nikolic, US tenor Arnold Rawls, Mexican tenor Diego
Torre and OA baritone José Carbó performing some of the most popular
arias from operatic masters including Verdi, Offenbach, Puccini and
Bizet.
Gale Edwards’ award-winning production of La bohème dazzles with
spectacular sets and costumes that capture the glamour and danger of
Berlin in the 1920’s. Cabaret and burlesque stylings make for a chic
staging, lit up by world class performances by superstar Italian tenor
Gianluca Terranova and one of the fastest rising stars of the opera world,
soprano Nicole Car. This ‘crazy-beautiful’ bohemian production opens
the Sydney Summer Opera Season, and runs until 23 March 2013.
