<strong>SCDOT</strong> <strong>Facts</strong><br />

• An approximate $517 million program for FY 2009<br />

• <strong>SCDOT</strong> responsible for maintaining 41,391 miles <strong>of</strong> road<br />

and 8,331 bridges (4 th largest state maintained system in the<br />

nation)<br />

• 62% <strong>of</strong> roads in South Carolina are state-owned. National<br />

average is 19%.<br />

• Motor fuel user fee in South Carolina is $0.34/gallon<br />

total($0.16 state and $0.18 federal) and is the 5 th lowest in<br />

the nation.<br />

• No increase in motor fuel user fee since 1987<br />

• South Carolina receives $0.93 for every dollar in motor<br />

vehicle user fees sent to Washington. (“Donor(<br />

State”<br />

status)<br />

• 73% <strong>of</strong> <strong>SCDOT</strong> revenues come form the motor fuel user<br />

fees (southeast regional average is 49%)
