MC - Composition Competitive
SUBMISSION OF COMPOSITIONS:
- A copy of your composition MUST be included with the registration form.
Ensure that your name is on the composition with each page numbered and that each
system begins with a bar number. Scores using non-traditional notation must include a
set of upper-case letters to designate sections of the work for the adjudicator's
reference.
- ALL submissions must be fully scored, so a thorough adjudication can be given
with all references to the score.
- ALL compositions for voice with accompaniment must have a vocal AND
accompanying instrumental part(s) completely notated. Assistance required to do this is
permitted.
- All styles of musical compositions are acceptable. However, students are
encouraged to create imaginative, original works with a contemporary character,
utilizing the style and musical language of the 20th and 21st centuries.
- A recorded performance of the work sent with the score would be welcome. The
recording MUST be on a CD in MP3 format. These recordings WILL NOT be used
for the performance at the actual class.
- All scores and CDs will be mailed to the composition adjudicator. Assessed
scores will be returned by the adjudicator to the Festival Coordinator. Adjudications
will be read at the performance class by a member of the Festival Music Committee
or a Festival Adjudicator. All scores and CDs will be returned at that time.
PERFORMANCE OF COMPOSITIONS:
- ALL submissions are expected to be performed live and composers should give
this serious consideration before entering. If performance does not take place,
adjudication will be given, but no class placement or recommendation for awards will
be given. Performances DO NOT have to be by the composer. ALL performances
requiring accompaniment MUST be done ACOUSTICALLY. There will be NO
allowance for the use of ANY system of amplification or alternative modes of
accompaniment. (See class LC-Live Creativity Class)
- ADJUDICATIONS ARE FOR THE COMPOSITIONS ONLY, NOT THE
PERFORMANCES.
-The adjudicator may recommend compositions for performance at the Grand
Festival Concert.
