<strong>NIST</strong> Student in World’s most difficult Mountain Biking<br />

Mr. Jhasaketan Patra, B. Tech student of 2004-08 batch, the only selected student from the state of Orissa,<br />

participated in the world’s most hazardous and difficult Mountain Biking on the terrains of Himalayan Mountain<br />

Ranges, organized by the Youth Hostel Associations of India (YHAI), New Delhi from 22 nd August – 7 th<br />

<strong>September</strong> <strong>2009</strong>. The expedition of 600 kms on Mountain Bikes along with 100 other mountain bikers from all<br />

over India, took Jhasaketan 17 long days climbing some of the toughest ranges like, Rohtang Pass (13,051ft),<br />

Bara Locha Pass (16.050ft), Lachung La Pass (16,600ft), Tangla Pass (17,469ft) and finally to the world’s<br />

highest motorable point, Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft).<br />

Congratulations to Jhasaketan for completing this arduous expedition successfully!<br />

Skill Improvement Program at <strong>NIST</strong><br />

Directorate of Technical Education & Training, Govt. of Orissa under the “Employment Mission Programme”<br />

has selected <strong>NIST</strong> as a partner Institution to roll out the Skill Improvement Programme, under different trades.<br />

<strong>NIST</strong> has been allotted a total of 77 students under three trades namely Computer Hardware Technician, Data<br />

Entry Operator & Repair of Electrical Appliances. The scheme is fully sponsored by Govt. of Orissa. This is a<br />

unique opportunity to extend our technical and professional expertise to certain weaker and unskilled sections of<br />

the society. The classes have already commenced from 1 st <strong>September</strong> <strong>2009</strong>.<br />
