Makerere <strong>Engineering</strong> Society (MES)<br />

Makerere <strong>Engineering</strong> Society is a student organization<br />

<strong>of</strong> Faculty <strong>of</strong> Technology whose activities are directed<br />

towards fostering student’s interests in the <strong>Engineering</strong><br />

field<br />

It was founded in 1971; the society has played a vital<br />

role in shaping the lives <strong>and</strong> attitudes <strong>of</strong> several great<br />

men <strong>and</strong> women in this nation by equipping them with<br />

interpersonal, leadership, <strong>and</strong> social skills indispensable<br />

in the development <strong>of</strong> successful careers.<br />

The activities <strong>of</strong> the society evolve around the following aims <strong>and</strong> objectives as stipulated in the<br />

society constitution.<br />

i. To create a medium <strong>of</strong> communication between the staff <strong>and</strong> students<br />

ii. To create a worthy relationship between students <strong>and</strong> industry<br />

iii. To get in touch with the practicing engineers in the field to help students broaden<br />

their technical skills through seminars <strong>and</strong> workshops.<br />

iv. Create, encourage <strong>and</strong> perpetuate a sense <strong>of</strong> togetherness amongst engineering<br />

students <strong>and</strong> students <strong>of</strong> the faculty <strong>of</strong> technology at large<br />

v. To protect your rights<br />

vi. To instill in the members a sense <strong>of</strong> appreciation for the engineering pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>and</strong><br />

pride for it.<br />

In trying to realize the above aims <strong>and</strong><br />

objectives, MES has always organized the<br />

following events <strong>and</strong> outputs;<br />

a) Study Tours to Industries <strong>and</strong><br />

other Countries<br />

b) Seminars <strong>and</strong> Workshops modulated<br />

by Practicing Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />

c) Technology Exhibition<br />

d) The annual Technology Dinner<br />

e) Technology Brain Game<br />

f ) MES Afternoons<br />

g) Annual Technology Conference<br />

Affiliation To Ug<strong>and</strong>a Institution Of<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Engineering</strong><br />

Ug<strong>and</strong>a Institution <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Engineers<br />

(UIPE) is a nationally recognized body that protects<br />

practicing engineers as well as ensuring<br />

engineering work is done ethically in the prime<br />

interest <strong>of</strong> public safety. MES currently registers<br />

students aspiring for student membership in this<br />

great institution.<br />
