FEATURED ALUMNI
My name is Kathleen (Katie) Michaud RN, BSN. I
recently returned to college full-time as a nontraditional
student, earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
in the spring of 2011, graduating
cum laude. I wish to advance my
career to a family nurse practitioner
in the immediate future. UMFK
was an excellent choice for me as I
was able to choose online studies
while working in the field of Nursing,
and taking care of my family. The class I enjoyed
most during my course studies was Ethics and Law. I
am very interested in the ethical decision making of
patient treatment, and I enjoy researching law and
reasons behind its importance in medicine. I currently
work as an RN case manager for The Aroostook Medical
Center and enjoy submitting cost-saving innovative
ideas to the organization. I have been a practicing registered
nurse for 16 years. UMFK’s dedicated professionals
are available, knowledgeable, and involved with their
students’ success. There were many instructors and class
advisors that guided and encouraged me often. UMFK
was a stepping stone when furthering my education.
FEATURED PROFESSOR
Erin Soucy is the Director of the Division of Nursing,
and is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at UMFK.
Her educational background comes from a M.S.N. in
Nursing Education from St.
Joseph College and a B.S.N. in
Nursing from the University of
Maine at Fort Kent. She is
currently evaluating students in
the affective learning domain, and
is researching the use of Human
Patient Simulators to enhance nursing education.
