areas of complimentary health care.
A Scholarship in Your Name –
Forever Remembered by Deserving
Students
“Our goal is to help you realize yours,” may be our new theme, but
it’s always been our promise. We continue to do everything we can
to ensure our students have successful academic careers. One of those
efforts involves working to garner additional scholarship funds for
exceptional students or those with financial need who may otherwise
not be able to continue their studies.
We challenge you – our friends and graduates – to dream of
establishing a nursing scholarship in your own name or the name of a
loved one. Imagine the satisfaction you will feel every year when you
help a student succeed by reaching his or her dream of becoming a
nurse.
Donors who make an annual gift of $6,000 per year for five years can
name an endowment scholarship while funding a College of Nursing
student as early as the fall of 2008. At the end of five years, the
endowment will be fully funded at $25,000 which would generate an
annual tuition stipend of $1,000 in perpetuity.
Whether you would like to endow an undergraduate scholarship to
benefit a deserving student or a graduate fellowship to help develop the
next generation of nurse scientists, please call Laurel Martin, director
of development for the College of Nursing, for more information. She
can be reached at (859) 323-6635.
New Development and Alumni Director Joins College
The College welcomes Laurel Raimondo Martin, Ph.D., M.Ed., as the College’s full-time director of development and
alumni relations. Martin brings eight years of experience as an advancement professional, including serving as director of
development in the UK College of Education and associate director of planning and development in the UK Center for
Research on Violence Against Women. She also has served as assistant director of alumni relations at Eastern Kentucky University.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from UK, a Master’s of Education in student personnel
administration from the University of Iowa, and a Ph.D. in leadership, organization, and policy from Vanderbilt University.
Life is filled with transitions, including in our work lives. Martin replaces Mrs. Terry Green, who retired from the University in October 2007
after five years of service, in order to spend more time with family and to travel. She and her husband are following their passion of visiting
U.S. presidential libraries. She worked closely with Dean Carolyn Williams to build the College’s philanthropic portfolio and to strengthen our
relationship with alumni. She was instrumental in the College’s 2007 inaugural Hall of Fame and in raising $4.8 million as part of UK’s recent
campaign which exceeded $1 billion. Former Dean Williams said, “With her vivacious personality, positive spirit, and genuine commitment
to the goals of the College Terry made significant contributions to the vitality of our alumni association and our giving program. She was a
wonderful partner in efforts to engage alumni, friends of the College and other constituencies in supporting the College. She will be missed.”
