pdfL A T E X vs. L A T E X This is maybe the only thing where you do significantly different things in your .tex file depending on whether you compile with latex or pdflatex. latex Only accepts Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files pdflatex Accepts PDF, PNG, and JPEG files but not EPS However, if you have EPS files, you can convert them to PDF with the epstopdf utility.
