AV DISTRIBUTION & SURROUND SOUND 

The Adagio Media System (AMS) delivers a high-performance 

surround sound and multi-room audio distribution solution in 

one elegant yet cost-effective package. Right out of the box, 

the AMS provides sophisticated surround processing and 

amplification for a complete home theater, plus audio signal 

routing for 4 or more pairs of remote room speakers. Its 

built-in Crestron control system enables enhanced control 

and integration capability for AV and home automation. 

7.1 Surround Sound—The AMS features a state-of-the-art 

surround sound processor and powerful 7-channel amplifier 

designed to deliver jaw-dropping sonic performance from 

all of today’s digital sources. Dolby ® Digital EX and DTS-ES 

96/24 decoding achieve superlative sound quality from the 

latest generation of DVD video and audio titles, with a full 

set of decoding and processing modes provided to support 

and enhance the vast range of movies and music available. 

High-End Audio Performance—A thunderous 7x100 

Watts of amplification, plus discrete subwoofer/LFE balanced 

line output, are furnished to drive any 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 theater 

speaker system with powered subwoofer. An advanced 

Class G amplifier topology produces the great sound of 

a classic Class AB design with near-digital efficiency. 

Independent six-band parametric EQ is provided on each 

output channel including the subwoofer/LFE output, as well 

as time-delay affording up to 100mS per channel for proper 

lip-sync and speaker placement compensation. 

Audyssey MultEQ ® —Audyssey MultEQ facilitates an 

optimum listening experience for every seat in your theater 

using an ingenious equalization solution that automatically 

corrects for time, level, and frequency response of each 

speaker within the space. MultEQ is the only technology 

of its kind capable of properly measuring sound information 

throughout the listening area, and combining that information 

to accurately represent the acoustical intricacies of the 

room. Based on these measurements, MultEQ meticulously 

calculates an equalization solution that effectively removes 

sound distortion at every listening position. 

Copious AV Inputs and Outputs—To accommodate 

a full complement of audio sources, the AMS supplies a 

total of 10 S/PDIF digital audio inputs, 3 HDMI inputs, 10 

analog stereo inputs, and one analog 7.1 surround input. 

In addition to its speaker and subwoofer outputs, the 

AMS furnishes unbalanced line-level audio outputs 

containing the 7.1 surround signal as well as a stereo 

downmix signal. High-definition video switching is also 

provided for 8 HDTV/component, 4 S-Video, 4 composite, 

and 3 HDMI sources.

Adagio TM Media System AMS 

HDMITM Technology—The AMS’s HDMI inputs and output 

provide simplified connectivity for today’s and tomorrow’s 

high-end components, providing a single-cable digital 

interface that combines uncompressed high-definition 

video, multi-channel audio, and intelligent format and 

command data. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) 

switching supports the routing of DVD and DTV sources to 

a single HDTV display up to 1080p, and can decode digital 

audio signals from DVD-Audio, SACD, Dolby Digital and 

DTS sources. 

Multi-Room Audio—In addition to surround sound in the 

home theater, the AMS also distributes stereo audio to 

feed several pairs of remote room speakers. Listeners in 

each room can enjoy their own choice of radio stations, 

CDs and MP3s, or even a stereo downmix of the surround 

sound output. Each room includes its own volume, bass, 

and treble controls, with the ability to combine a group of 

rooms easily at the press of the “Party Mode” button. 

The integrated multi-room amplifier delivers a robust 45 

watts per channel to each of 4 rooms. A fifth stereo room, 

or up to 2 mono rooms, can be supported using spare 

surround channels if the theater is configured as 6.1, 5.1, 

or lower. And without requiring any programming, the AMS 

can easily be expanded to support another six rooms by 

adding an AAE Audio Expander. In fact, a total of three 

AAE's may be added, with simple setup afforded using 

Crestron Adagio Composer software, supporting up to 

24 rooms in all (plus the theater). 

2-Channel Steering—For homes that combine their theater 

with their main living space, some additional signal routing 

flexibility is needed. Listening to stereo music through the 

theater’s main front speakers can have a distracting effect 

when there’s music playing throughout the house. With 

2-channel and multi-channel steering capability, the AMS 

lets you listen through the theater’s side or rear speakers 

instead of, or in addition to, the front speakers for the most 

cohesive whole-house listening experience.

Satellite Radio—Up to 3 dual radio tuner cards can be 

installed in the AMS to enable combinations of up to 6 

AM/FM, XM ® and SIRIUS ® Satellite Radio tuners, letting 

listeners in different rooms each enjoy their own choice 

of music, news, sports and talk. For satellite and most 

FM stations, the AMS displays data such as the radio 

station name, song and artist, traffic, weather, and phone 

numbers. The AMS comes with one tuner card included. 

MP3 Audio Servers—Plug-and-play compatibility with 

Crestron’s AAS Adagio Audio Server1 and CEN-IDOC 

Interface for Apple iPod ®1 delivers instant access to an 

entire collection of music from any room in the house with 

full capability for browsing by album, artist, and song title. 

Enhanced Front Panel Control—With its large backlit 

LCD display, Room and Preset buttons, 4 softkeys and 

dual rotary encoders, the AMS front panel provides a very 

powerful, yet friendly user interface for setting up and 

controlling the theater along with a houseful of speakers. 

Custom naming of rooms, groups, and sources is facilitated 

on the LCD display, and also on the custom label strip using 

Crestron Engraver software. A selection of pre-made labels 

is also included. 

Wireless Touchpanel—The optional TPMC-4X Handheld 

WiFi Touchpanel2 provides an elegant user interface 

for controlling the AMS and the rest of your theater 

components. Out of the box2 , the TPMC-4X includes 

numerous control screens for setting up and controlling 

the AMS, Adagio Audio Server and Apple iPod. 

Versatile Room Controls—A choice of basic 12-button 

keypads or the advanced APAD Wall Mount LCD Controller 

enables versatile control of the AMS in every room. A 

keypad provides the essential controls for adjusting volume, 

selecting sources, and toggling up and down through tracks 

and radio channels. For more elegant control, the APAD 

actually extends the many functions of the AMS front panel 

to each room, providing true feedback for display of audio 

sources, radio stations, CD titles, artists, and tracks by 

name, plus audio settings and many other parameters. 

2-Series Ethernet Control System—Adagio brings 

Crestron’s industry-leading Total Home Technology to 

homes of any size and budget. At the heart of the AMS 

is the powerful 2-Series control engine. With both Cresnet 

and Ethernet connectivity, plus custom programmability 

using Crestron SystemBuilderTM software, the AMS allows 

nearly limitless expansion and customization using 

Crestron's entire line of touchpanels, wireless remotes, 

and hundreds of other devices. The built-in Web server 



with native e-Control ® 2 XPanel support enables full remote 

control over IP from computers and PDA devices, as well 

as remote diagnostics and updates. Built-in IR, RS-232,

The Adagio Media System AIP (AMS-AIP) delivers a 

high-performance digital home theater and multi-room 

audio distribution solution in one elegant yet cost-effective 

package. Right out of the box, the AMS-AIP provides 

sophisticated surround processing, amplification, and digital 

video processing for a complete home theater, plus audio 

signal routing for 4 or more pairs of remote room speakers. 

Its built-in Crestron control system enables enhanced control 

and integration capability for AV and home automation. 

Advanced Image Processing—The AMS-AIP scales video 

input signals to match the native resolution of your highdefinition 

display, supporting output resolutions up to 1080p 

with a choice of component, HDMI, DVI, or RGB connectivity. 

Featuring Gennum’s Visual Excellence ProcessingTM with 

TruMotionHD fully adaptive deinterlacing, the AMS-AIP

format and command data. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia 

Interface) switching supports the routing of DVD and DTV 

sources to a single HDTV display up to 1080p, and can 

decode digital audio signals from DVD-Audio, SACD, Dolby 



Digital and DTS sources. The addition of DVI affords increased 

compatibility for connecting multimedia computers and a wide 

range of professional video players, displays, and projectors. 

7.1 Surround Sound—The AMS-AIP features a stateof-the-art 

surround sound processor and powerful 7-channel 

amplifier designed to deliver jaw-dropping sonic performance 

from all of today’s digital sources. Dolby ® Digital EX and DTS- 

ES 96/24 decoding achieve superlative sound quality from 

the latest generation of DVD video and audio titles, with a full 

set of decoding and processing modes provided to support 

and enhance the vast range of movies and music available. 

High-End Audio Performance—A thunderous 7x100 

Watts of amplification, plus discrete subwoofer/LFE balanced 

line output, are furnished to drive any 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 theater 

speaker system with powered subwoofer. An advanced 

Class G amplifier topology produces the great sound of 

a classic Class AB design with near-digital efficiency. 

Independent six-band parametric EQ is provided on each 

output channel including the subwoofer/LFE output, as well 

as time-delay affording up to 100mS per channel for proper 

lip-sync and speaker placement compensation. 

Audyssey MultEQ ® —Audyssey MultEQ facilitates an 

optimum listening experience for every seat in your theater 

using an ingenious equalization solution that automatically 

corrects for time, level, and frequency response of each 

speaker within the space. MultEQ is the only technology 

of its kind capable of properly measuring sound information 

throughout the listening area, and combining that information 

to accurately represent the acoustical intricacies in the 

room. Based on these measurements, MultEQ meticulously 

calculates an equalization solution that effectively removes 

sound distortion at every listening position. 

Copious AV Inputs and Outputs—To accommodate a 

full complement of audio sources, the AMS-AIP supplies 

a total of 10 S/PDIF digital audio inputs, 3 HDMI inputs, 

10 analog stereo inputs, and one analog 7.1 surround input. 

In addition to its speaker and subwoofer outputs, the 

AMS-AIP furnishes unbalanced line-level audio outputs 

containing the 7.1 surround signal as well as a stereo 

downmix signal. High-definition video switching is also 

provided for 1 DVI and 3 HDMI high-resolution digital 

sources, plus 8 component, 4 S-Video, and 4 composite 

analog video sources. 

Multi-Room Audio—In addition to surround sound in the 

home theater, the AMS-AIP also distributes stereo audio 

to feed several pairs of remote room speakers. Listeners

in each room can enjoy their own choice of radio stations, 

CDs and MP3s, or even a stereo downmix of the surround 

sound output. Each room includes its own volume, bass, 

and treble controls, with the ability to combine a group of 

rooms easily at the press of the “Party Mode” button. 

The integrated multi-room amplifier delivers a robust 

45 watts per channel to each of 4 rooms. A fifth stereo 

room, or up to 2 mono rooms, can be supported using 

spare surround channels if the theater is configured as 

6.1, 5.1, or lower. And without requiring any programming, 

the AMS-AIP can easily be expanded to support another 

six rooms by adding an AAE Audio Expander. In fact, a 

total of three AAE's may be added, with simple setup 

afforded using Crestron Adagio Composer software, 

supporting up to 24 rooms in all (plus the theater). 

2-Channel Steering—For homes that combine their 

theater with their main living space, some additional signal 

routing flexibility is needed. Listening to stereo music 

through the theater’s main front speakers can have a 

distracting effect when there’s music playing throughout the 

house. With 2-channel and multi-channel steering capability, 

the AMS-AIP lets you listen through the theater’s side or rear 

speakers instead of, or in addition to, the front speakers for 

the most cohesive whole-house listening experience. 

Satellite Radio—Up to 3 dual radio tuner cards can be 

installed in the AMS-AIP to enable combinations of up 

to 6 AM/FM, XM ® and SIRIUS ® Satellite Radio tuners, letting 

listeners in different rooms each enjoy their own choice 

of music, news, sports and talk. For satellite and most FM 

stations, the AMS-AIP displays data such as the radio station 

name, song and artist, traffic, weather, and phone numbers. 

The AMS-AIP comes with one tuner card included. 

MP3 Audio Servers—Plug-and-play compatibility 

with Crestron's AAS Adagio Audio Server1 and CEN-IDOC 

Interface for Apple iPod ® 1 delivers instant access to an 

entire collection of music from any room in the house with 

full capability for browsing by album, artist, and song title. 

Enhanced Front Panel Control—With its large backlit LCD

AES Adagio TM Entertainment System 


The Adagio Entertainment System (AES) delivers a complete, 

cost-effective solution for high-performance multi-room 

audio distribution. Right out of the box, the AES provides 

sophisticated audio signal routing, processing, and 

amplification for up to 6 rooms, with extensive control 

from an enhanced LCD-driven front panel and a choice 

of room controllers. 

Multi-Room Audio—The AES supports up to 6 sets of 

stereo room speakers, allowing listeners in each room 

to listen selectively to any of 10 different stereo sources. 

Its integrated multi-channel power amplifier delivers a 

robust 45 watts per channel to all rooms. Without requiring 

any programming, the AES can easily be expanded to 

support a total of 12 rooms by adding an AAE Audio 

Expander. Or, as many as 24 rooms can be handled using 

3 AAE’s with simple setup provided by Crestron Adagio 

Composer software. 

High-End Performance—An advanced Class G amplifier 

topology produces the great sound of a classic Class AB 

design with near-digital efficiency. A massive MOH-core 

toroidal power transformer directs pure, continuous power 

to each channel, achieving exceptional dynamic range and 

low distortion sound quality in every room. Gentle powerup 

is achieved through a “soft-start” inrush current limiting 

circuit, and quick-response output protection on each 

channel prevents failure caused by speaker line faults 

and overheating. 

Enhanced Front Panel Control—With its large backlit 

LCD display, Room and Group select buttons, 4 softkeys 

and dual rotary encoders, the AES front panel provides a 

very powerful, yet friendly user interface for controlling audio

and sources is facilitated on the LCD display, and also on

The Adagio Audio Expander (AAE) is a high-performance 

audio distribution processor with integrated multi-channel 

amplifier. Designed to expand a Crestron AdagioTM home 

entertainment system with 6 additional room outputs,

complete Crestron Home ® audio distribution solution. 

Multi-Room Audio Routing—Built around a 10 x 6 stereo

to instantly access any album or track from touchpanels, 

keypads and computers throughout the home. 

Instant Access—The AAS Audio Server is a hard disk based 

audio system which can store many hundreds of hours of 

music, all with the convenience of instant access from its 

front panel, from a computer, or from Crestron touchpanels 

and keypads. Whether you select a track by title, album, 

artist, or genre, the AAS locates it instantly and plays it at 

your command. And with hard disks up to 250GB, literally 

thousands of hours worth of music can be stored. 

On-Screen Menu—Browsing through albums and tracks, 

ripping CDs, and organizing a complete music library is fun 

and easy using the onscreen menu (OSM). Displayed on 

a video or SVGA monitor, the OSM shows full album, track, 

and artist names as well as album cover art, letting you 

manage and play the entire music library using the front 

panel controls or IR remote. The same OSM can be 

viewed and navigated using any computer Web browser 

(Macromedia ® Flash ® required), or even a Crestron 

touchpanel as part of a complete control system. 

Easy Loading—Loading an entire CD collection onto the 

AAS is easy. Just place a CD into the disk tray, and the 

AAS rips it to digital in less time than it would take to play 

it. Then, the AAS automatically connects to the Gracenote 

CDDB Music Recognition Service via the built-in modem or 

Ethernet connection, downloading all of the information and 

cover art graphics for that CD. This information can also be 

entered manually, building a complete database for the 

entire music library. 

Custom Playlists—The AAS lets you organize and control 

your music collection the way you want it. Using playlists, 

the AAS can be customized to suit the individual tastes of 

each family member, with the ability to compile different 

playlists for different moods and occasions. At any time, 

just select a playlist and let the AAS be the DJ, serving 

up a perfect mix of music from the list of tracks that

Multi-Zone Outputs—With up to 4 stereo outputs, the

CNX-PBAR4 CAT5 Balanced Audio Receiver 

The CNX-PBAR4 is designed for systems utilizing multiple 

CNX-BIPAD8 audio distribution processors to enable 

redistribution of audio return signals from up to four 

CNXRMCLV, C2N-DAP8, or C2N-DAP8RC room solution 

boxes. The CNX-PBAR4 installs at the head end and 

connects in line with the bidirectional CAT5 audio cables 

that run between the CNX-BIPAD8 and each remote room 

solution box. For each room, an unbalanced audio signal 

is extracted from the return feed to be connected to any 

available source input on the CNX-BIPAD8, allowing the 

return signal to be distributed to any other room as if it 

were another head end source. 

The CAT5 balanced room output signal from the 

CNX-BIPAD8 is passed directly through the CNX-PBAR4 to 

the room solution box without processing. The CNX-PBAR4 

is designed for transparent operation and contains no 

adjustments or switching circuitry. The CNX-PBAR4 includes 

a dedicated external power supply and requires no 

connection to the Cresnet control network. 

The CNX-PBAR4 can also be used anywhere it is necessary 

to convert Crestron CAT5 balanced audio for connection to 

a conventional unbalanced stereo line-level input.

CNX-PVID8X4 Video Distribution Switcher 

Distributing video in a home, office, bar, or restaurant used 

to mean one of two things – either modulate every video 

signal to a TV channel and suffer the low-grade picture 

quality, or pull a ton of bulky, expensive RG6 cable and 

wire it all up to a huge matrix router. Crestron’s CNX-PVID8 

video distribution switchers provide a better solution, 

combining the flexibility of several matrix routers with the 

simplicity of Crestron Home ® CAT5 Video Distribution 

technology. Variable combinations of video, HDTV, and 

even digital audio signals are easily configured to route 

a rack full of high-end AV sources to television monitors, 

plasma displays, and video projectors throughout any facility. 

Up to 32 Sources x Up to 32 Rooms—The CNX-PVID8X4 

is a versatile video distribution switcher incorporating four 

16 x 8 matrix switchers with Crestron’s innovative CAT5 

balanced interface in a compact 4-space rack mount 

chassis. The CNX-PVID8X4 is configurable to handle 

anywhere from 16 to 32 video inputs and distribute them 

to 8 remote room locations up to 750 feet away* over 

inexpensive CAT5E cable. Up to four CNX-PVID8X4’s may 

be combined to handle as many as 32 rooms**. The inputs 

accept an assortment of composite, S-Video, and highdefinition 

component sources, as well as digital audio. 

Crestron Home ® CAT5 Balanced Video—Crestron video 

distribution switchers are designed to provide maximum 

flexibility through the use of CAT5 balanced technology. Each 

CAT5 output port transmits up to four simultaneous signals 

based upon the selected input. For instance, a component 

signal utilizes the first, second, and third pairs to transmit 

the Y, PB, and PR components. Switching to an S-Video 

signal then utilizes just the first and second pairs to transmit 

S-Video’s Y and C components. Composite utilizes only 

the first CAT5 pair. The fourth pair is ordinarily intended for 

digital audio, but may also be suitable for composite video 

in some installations. 



To maximize the performance of video over CAT5, adjustable 

video compensation is employed on each of the three video 

pairs while the fourth pair is uncompensated. 

Configurable Inputs—Out of the box, the four wire pairs 

of each CAT5 output correspond with the CNX-PVID8X4’s 

four matrix levels. This configuration allows any of 16 inputs 

to accept any type of video source. Additional configurations 

are made possible through a simple internal jumper 

modification, permitting alternate configurations with 

up to 32 inputs (16 composite + 16 S-Video or composite) 

or 24 inputs (8 composite + 8 S-Video/composite 

+ 8 component/S-Video/composite). Each of these 

configurations also supports up to 16 coaxial type 

digital audio inputs using the fourth matrix level. 

Room Solution Boxes—At each remote room location, 

one of Crestron’s “Room Solution Boxes” must be 

connected to the local display device (television, plasma, 

etc.) to receive the CAT5 signal and serve as a local 

switcher. Models include the CNXRMC, CNXRMCLV, and 

C2N-DAP8RC (each sold separately). The room solution 

box automatically routes the incoming video and digital 

audio signals to the appropriate inputs on the display device 

allowing the viewer to select any head end video source 

using a touchpanel, keypad or handheld remote. Operation 

is transparent to the end-user with all switching occurring 

smoothly under the command of the control system. 

Bidirectional Video—Extending the system’s capabilities 

even further, the CNXRMCLV and C2N-DAP8RC boxes also 

support a “return” video signal over a second CAT5E cable 

allowing the signal from a local video source to be routed 

to the head-end for redistribution to other rooms. To enable 

this capability, one or more CNX-PBVR4 balanced video 

receivers must be included at the head end to convert the 

CAT5 return signals to standard RCA unbalanced, allowing 

each signal to be connected to any available input on the 

CNX-PVID8X4. 

Alternate Conventional Outputs—In addition to the eight 

CAT5 outputs, the CNX-PVID8X4 also includes conventional 

RCA type unbalanced video outputs to allow for direct 

coaxial connections to video display devices. When using 

the unbalanced outputs, it should be observed that the 

CNX-PVID8X4 behaves like any other matrix or “system” 

switcher so that a separate output must be used for each 

type of video signal. In other words, routing composite, 

S-Video, and component signals to a single video projector 

without using a room solution box requires a total of three 

unbalanced video outputs. Also, the unbalanced outputs are 

functionally paralleled with the CAT5 outputs so that using a


given unbalanced output might exclude the use of the 

corresponding CAT5 output for a given application. 

Built-in Video Sensing—Video signal sensing on every 

input reports the presence of any active input signal to the 

control system to provide useful information about a device’s 

power status, or to enable auto-switching capability. 

Cresnet ® Control—Crestron’s video distribution switchers 

work together with any 2-Series control system to provide 

an extensively customizable video distribution solution. 

Crestron’s SystemBuilderTM software can make system 

programming a quick and simple task for most applications.

Bidirectional Video—Extending the system’s capabilities 

even further, the CNXRMCLV and C2N-DAP8RC boxes also 

support a “return” video signal over a second CAT5E cable 

allowing the signal from a local video source to be routed 

to the head-end for redistribution to other rooms. To enable 

this capability, one or more CNX-PBVR4 balanced video 

receivers must be included at the head end to convert the 

CAT5 return signals to standard RCA unbalanced, allowing 

each signal to be connected to any available input on the 

CNX-PVID8X3. 

Alternate Conventional Outputs—In addition to the eight 

CAT5 outputs, the CNX-PVID8X3 also includes conventional 

RCA type unbalanced video outputs to allow for direct 

coaxial connections to video display devices. When using 

the unbalanced outputs, it should be observed that the 

CNX-PVID8X3 behaves like any other matrix or “system” 

switcher so that a separate output must be used for each 

type of video signal. In other words, routing composite, 

S-Video, and component signals to a single video projector 

without using a room solution box requires a total of three 

unbalanced video outputs. Also, the unbalanced outputs are 

functionally paralleled with the CAT5 outputs so that using 

a given unbalanced output might exclude the use of the 

corresponding CAT5 output for a given application.

The CNX-PBVR4 is designed for use with CNX-PVID8X3

redistribution of video return signals from up to four

connection and control of local room AV devices as part 

of a complete Crestron Home ® AV distribution system. 

The CNXRMC is specifically designed as a CAT5 video 

receiver and control interface, providing baseband outputs 

for composite, S-Video, and high-definition component 

video signals, plus a variety of IR and serial control ports. 

The compact CNXRMC normally installs at the display 

device (television, plasma, etc.) location and connects to 

the head end by just one CAT5E cable and one Cresnet 

cable (available as CresCAT ® , sold separately). Crestron’s 

CAT5 video distribution technology permits cable lengths 

up to 750 feet (500 feet for component video).

To maximize the performance of video over CAT5, Crestron 

employs adjustable video compensation on each of the 

three video pairs. The fourth pair, which is uncompensated, 

is optimized for digital audio but may also be suitable for 

composite video. 

Control ports on the CNXRMC include four IR/serial ports 

and one bi-directional RS-232 port, providing a powerful 

interface for control of numerous devices including video

system, providing verification of device power status and 

enabling auto-switching capability. 

In addition to video, the CNXRMCLV also includes a CAT5 

audio port to receive stereo audio from a CNX-BIPAD8 

audio distribution processor at the head end. The audio 

switcher built into the CNXRMCLV allows selection between 

the head end CAT5 signal and three local stereo inputs. 

A built-in stereo preamp provides control over volume, 

bass, treble, balance, loudness, mono, and mute using 

any touchpanel, keypad, or handheld remote. The preamp 

output may be connected to a line-level input on the local 

television, or used to drive a local room amplifier such as 

the CNAMPX-2X60. A second unprocessed output fed by 

its own independent switcher is provided to feed a local 

recording device or secondary zone. 

Routing of digital audio signals can also be supported by 

the CNXRMCLV when fed from a CNX-PVID8X4 switcher. 

The digital audio signal is received on the fourth pair of the 

CAT5 video input, passing through the CNXRMCLV’s internal 

video matrix to a local RCA output for connection to the 

S/PDIF coaxial input of any local device. Local digital audio 

sources may also be connected to any of the CNXRMCLV’s 

RCA video inputs. Note that digital audio signals are not 

converted or processed by the CNXRMCLV’s audio preamp. 

The CNXRMCLV also supports a “return” feed to allow the 

audio and video signals from local AV sources to be routed 

to the head-end for redistribution to other rooms. The analog 

audio return is handled over the same CAT5E cable that 

carries the analog audio signal coming from the head end, 

while a dedicated CAT5E cable is required to enable the 

video and digital audio return.

front panel controls, the C2N-DAP8 allows each installation 

to be equipped with just the right balance of automation and 

adjustability to suit the needs of the end-user. Whether using

user interface is completely customizable, so control of the 

C2N-DAP8 can be largely preset to simplify operation for the 

technically-challenged, or it can be extensively “tweakable”

Based on the powerful Analog Devices SHARC ® 32-bit 

floating point DSP, the C2N-DAP8 achieves jaw-dropping 

sonic performance from all of today’s digital sources, and

and DTS ® ES, as well as Dolby ® Prologic ® II and DTS Neo:6TM , 

providing every option for decoding and enhancing a

Precision 24-bit 96 kHz A/D converters provide maximum 

dynamic range for analog sources. A total of 6 analog 

and 4 digital inputs are provided to accommodate a full 

complement of sources. A bidirectional CAT5 audio port 

is included to interface with other Crestron Home ® CAT5based 

audio components such as the CNX-BIPAD8 Audio 

Distribution Processor. 

The 7.1 output section, featuring 24-bit 192 kHz D/A 

converters, is ideal for driving Crestron’s CNAMPX-7X200 

7-Channel Surround Sound Amplifier. Both 5.1 and 6.1 

speaker configurations are also supported. A discrete 

subwoofer output supports the reproduction of LFE (low 

frequency effects) audio with extensive bass management 

control to maximize the performance of any powered 

subwoofer. Every output includes individual level adjustment, 

6-band parametric equalization, and up to 20 milliseconds 

of delay for precise optimization of the complete speaker 

system. Graphic equalization is also available, although its

Complete and precise audio setup can be performed easily 

using Crestron’s Digital Media Tools (DMT) software. For 

proper calibration, pink noise and Dolby noise sources are

Surround Sound Processors

Three additional stereo outputs are provided to feed linelevel 

audio to recording devices and remote zone amplifiers. 

Output A is a fixed unity-level output, while Output B features

C2N-DAP8RC 7.1 Surround Sound Processor and Room Solution Box 

The C2N-DAP8RC is a professional surround sound 

processor, video switcher, and control interface in a 

single package. As part of a complete Crestron Home ® AV 

distribution system, the C2N-DPA8RC delivers cost-effective, 

high-end audio processing, AV signal routing, and device 

control. Having no front panel controls, the C2N-DAP8RC 

allows each installation to be equipped with just the right 

balance of automation and adjustability to suit the needs 

of the end-user. Whether using a touchpanel, keypad, 

handheld remote, or computer, the user interface is 

completely customizable, so control of the C2N-DAP8RC 

can be largely preset to simplify operation for the technicallychallenged, 

or it can be extensively “tweakable” to indulge 

the most avid theater enthusiast. 

Surround Sound Processor—Based on the powerful 

Analog Devices SHARC ® 32-bit floating point DSP, the 

C2N-DAP8RC achieves jaw-dropping sonic performance 

from all of today’s digital sources, and is hardware and 

software upgradeable to support future advancements. 

Surround modes include Dolby ® Digital EX and DTS ® ES, 

as well as Dolby Prologic ® II and DTS Neo:6TM , providing 

every option for decoding and enhancing a complete 

range of movies and music. 


Precision 24-bit 96 kHz A/D converters provide maximum 

dynamic range for analog sources. A total of 6 analog 

and 5 digital inputs are provided to accommodate a full 

complement of sources. In addition to the local inputs, 

analog and digital audio signals may also be received from 

a centralized head-end via built-in CAT5 Balanced AV ports. 

The 7.1 output section, featuring 24-bit 192 kHz D/A 

converters, is ideal for driving Crestron’s CNAMPX-7X200 

7-Channel Surround Sound Amplifier. Both 5.1 and 6.1 

speaker configurations are also supported. A discrete 

subwoofer output supports the reproduction of LFE (low 

frequency effects) audio with extensive bass management 



control to maximize the performance of any powered 

subwoofer. Every output includes individual level adjustment, 

6-band parametric equalization, and up to 20 milliseconds 

of delay for precise optimization of the complete speaker 

system. Graphic equalization is also available, although its 

effects are global for all outputs. Output levels can be set 

and stored differently for each surround mode, and EQ 

presets (5 parametric or 10 graphic) allow for storage and 

recall of different curves tailored to particular audio material 

or listener preferences. Global bass and treble control is 

provided as well. 

Complete and precise audio setup can be performed easily 

using Crestron’s Digital Media Tools (DMT) software. For 

proper calibration, pink noise and Dolby noise sources are 

built into the C2N-DAP8RC. 

Three additional stereo outputs are provided to feed 

line-level audio to recording devices and remote zone 

amplifiers. Output A is a fixed unity-level output, while 

Output B features a complete dedicated preamp section 

with independent controls for volume, bass, treble, balance, 

loudness, mono, and mute. The third output feeds the CAT5 

audio port, allowing local analog audio signals to be routed 

to a centralized head-end for redistribution to other rooms. 

Any analog input on the C2N-DAP8RC can be independently 

routed to any or all of the three stereo outputs, noting that 

the signal selected for Output B is synonymous with the 

analog signal selected for the surround processor. 

Video Matrix Switcher—The C2N-DAP8RC provides 

12 unbalanced video input connectors to accept any 

combination of composite, S-Video, and high-definition 

component signals from local video sources. A CAT5 

balanced video input port is also provided to receive 

video and digital audio signals from a centralized head 

end. Any of the input signals may be freely routed to 

any of 12 unbalanced output connectors to feed plasma 

displays, projectors, monitors, and other devices within 

the room. A CAT5 balanced video output port allows local 

video signals to be routed to the head-end for redistribution 

to other rooms. 

Through programming, complete AV signal routing becomes 

transparent to the end-user with all switching occurring 

smoothly under the command of the control system. 

Each unbalanced video input even includes built-in signal 

sensing to report the presence of video signals to the 

control system, enabling auto-switching capability and

providing verification of device power status. Also, since 

the C2N-DAP8RC’s matrix switcher supports coaxial digital 

audio as well as video, it can effectively be utilized to expand 

the number of digital audio inputs and allow redistribution 

of local digital audio sources via the CAT5 balanced video 

output port. 

Room Solution Box—Its bidirectional CAT5 audio and 

video ports enable the C2N-DAP8RC to interface with 

CNX-PVID8 video distribution switchers and CNX-BIPAD8 

audio distribution processors, allowing AV sources to be 

shared easily between the theater and head end locations 

using inexpensive CAT5E cable. One Cresnet cable and 

up to three CAT5E cables (available as CresCATTMQ, sold 

separately) provide complete connectivity for bidirectional 

audio, video, and control over a distance of up to 750 feet 

(500 feet for component video). 

Four IR/serial ports and one bi-directional RS-232 port 

provide a powerful interface for control of local video 

projectors, plasma displays, televisions, VCRs, DVD 

players, and more. A single digital input port is also 

provided to support the optional CNXRMCS TV current 

sensor, or any low-voltage contact closure device. 

The C2N-DAP8RC functions as a slave device to any 


control network. Any of Crestron’s touchpanels, keypads, 

and handheld remotes may be used to provide the user 

interface to control the C2N-DAP8RC and all connected 

devices. Adding an optional CNXRMIRD IR receiver affords 

cost-effective control from any Crestron or third-party 

universal IR remote.

Intercom 

The C2N-IADS30X24 Intercom Audio Distribution Switcher 

facilitates the distribution and control of audio intercom 

signals for up to 22 TPS touchpanels and door stations using 

inexpensive CAT5E cable. The C2N-IADS30X24 integrates 

neatly with Crestron’s CNX-PAD8A and CNX-BIPAD8 audio 

distribution processors, enabling voice paging from any 

microphone-equipped touchpanel to room loudspeakers 

throughout the house or office, and allowing audio from 

central AV sources to be distributed to any touchpanel. 

The C2N-IADS30X24 is built around a fully programmable 

30 X 24 audio crosspoint matrix, providing extensive flexibility 

for the distribution of intercom and other monaural audio 

signals. Interfaced through 22 bidirectional CAT5 audio 

ports, the matrix provides complete freedom to route the 

microphone signal from any one touchpanel or door station 

to the speakers in another, with real-time control to permit 

fluid talk/listen (half-duplex) intercom functionality. Crestron 

offers several touchpanel models equipped with built-in 

microphones and speakers designed for use with the 

C2N-IADS30X24. Door stations are easily implemented 

using the C2N-IIF Intercom Interface (sold separately). 

Eight unbalanced inputs are also provided to accept signals 

from the unbalanced room outputs or loop-thru connectors 

of a Crestron audio distribution processor, or from any 

stereo sources. Stereo input signals are internally summed 

to mono. Any input signal may be freely routed to any 

number of CAT5 outputs. In addition, there are two

Intercom 

The C2N-IVDS24X24 Intercom Video Distribution Switcher 

provides a convenient facility for the distribution of security 

cameras and other video sources throughout the home or 

office over inexpensive CAT5E cable. A perfect companion 

to the C2N-IADS30X24 Intercom Audio Distribution Switcher, 

the C2N-IVDS24X24 distributes video signals to up to 16 

touchpanels from any of 16 cameras and 8 video door 

stations. It also integrates with Crestron's CNX-PVID8X3 

and CNX-PVID8X4 Video Distribution Switchers to allow 

extensive sharing of video resources among touchpanels 

and television monitors. 

The C2N-IVDS24X24 is built around a fully programmable 

24 X 24 video crosspoint matrix, providing the complete 

freedom to route any input to any output. Sixteen 

unbalanced composite inputs are provided to accept video 

signals from cameras and other video sources. In addition, 

8 CAT5 video inputs accommodate the balanced signals 

from up to 8 video door stations. Door station and entry gate 

cameras are easily implemented using the C2N-IIF Intercom 

Interface (sold separately). 

A total of 16 CAT5 balanced video outputs are provided to 

support up to 16 touchpanels. Crestron offers numerous 

touchpanel models equipped with balanced video capability 

for use with the C2N-IVDS24X24. Eight unbalanced 

composite outputs are also provided to enable direct 

connection to video monitors, recorders, and other devices. 

Using any combination of unbalanced inputs and outputs, 

the C2N-IVDS24X24 can be interconnected with Crestron’s 

CNX-PVID8X3 and CNX-PVID8X4 video distribution switchers 

to enable the sharing of whole-house video resources. 

Additional system configurations may be possible by 

interfacing with various Crestron CAT5 video products via 

the unit’s CAT5 balanced video ports. (Limitations may apply;

The C2N-IVDS24X24 supports both NTSC and PAL formats.

2-way (half-duplex) voice communication employing 

an electret condenser microphone and weather-resistant 

speaker (part of C2N-IIF-SPMK kit, sold separately). A door 

camera can also be connected to support full video intercom 

functionality. Extensive logic inputs and outputs are provided 

to accommodate a range of access control devices including 

push-to-call (doorbell) buttons, floor sensors, driveway 

sensors, keyless entry keypads, door strikes, motorized 

doors, gates, and more. 

For a simple yet elegant door station solution, the C2N-IIF 

is designed to mate directly with Holovision* brass plates 

including camera and keyless entry versions using the 

C2N-IIF-SPMK kit. It is equally well suited to accommodate 

completely custom or retrofit applications. The C2N-IIF is 

designed to be installed in a weatherproof housing or back 

box at the door station or gate location, and will tolerate 

temperatures from -22 to 140 degrees F (-30 to 60° C). 

The C2N-IIF works with Crestron’s Intercom Distribution 

Switchers and other CAT5 AV distribution products. Audio, 

video, and control signals are carried to the head end by 

a single Cresnet cable and two CAT5E cables (available 

as CresCAT ® D, sold separately).** 

Additional features include built-in WAV sound file capability 

to enable customized door chime and voice prompts at 

the door station speaker. Volume, bass, and treble are 

individually adjustable for the intercom and WAV file signals.

phone line, or to your phone system’s analog extension port to 

provide a single-line, half-duplex, push-to-talk speakerphone 

interface for any touchpanel with built-in microphone and 

speakers. Integrated with the C2N-IADS30X24 Intercom 

Distribution Switcher, the CEN-TIA can enable speakerphone 

capabilities for multiple touchpanels throughout the house. 

Caller ID—See who’s calling before you answer by displaying 

Caller ID information on every touchpanel. Manage missed 

calls easily with complete caller information and management 

options displayed on the touchpanel screen. Use the built-in 

address book to store phone numbers and addresses for all 

your contacts. 

Telephone Paging—The CEN-TIA adds telephone paging 

capability to any Crestron Home ® audio distribution system, 

allowing sophisticated zone-paging from any telephone to 

room speakers throughout the house. 

Audio Signal Generator—Loaded with your own custom 

MP3 audio files, the CEN-TIA can be used to generate 

high-quality door chimes and alarm sounds, and even 

create unique telephone ring tones to identify known callers 

based on Caller ID. With memory capacity expandable up 

to 1 GB, the CEN-TIA can easily support several hours of 

full-frequency stereo audio files. 

DTMF Control Interface—Use your mobile phone 

to remotely turn on lights, adjust air conditioning, and

CEN-TIA affords telephone keypad control of any automation 

system function, providing a prompt-driven user-interface 

that’s simple to use. The Menu Builder software tool makes

CNXBRMO Bridging/Mono Interface 

The CNXBRMO is designed for use with a Crestron 

CNX-PAD8A or CNX-BIPAD8 audio distribution 

processor to facilitate bridging of a CNAMPX-16X60 

or CNAMPX-12X60 multi-room amplifier. Bridging 

allows two adjacent amplifier channels to be 

combined for increased output power. 

The CNXBRMO accepts the stereo signal from a 

single room output and splits that signal into two 

stereo outputs, the polarity of one output inverted in 

relation to the other. These two outputs connect to 

the inputs of two adjacent stereo channels on the 

CNAMPX amplifier. Resultantly, the two stereo 

amplifier channels produce inversely proportionate 

signals so that the combined output can be used to 

drive a single stereo pair of speakers with over 200 

Watts of output power per speaker. 

On either amplifier model, only the first two adjacent 

channels and the last two adjacent channels are 

bridgeable. Therefore, no more than two CNXBRMO 

interfaces may be used with a single CNAMPX 

amplifier. 

The CNXBRMO can also be configured to produce a 

summed-mono signal to up to four outputs, although 

the polarity of two of the outputs remains inverted.

CNX-ASBK Bussing Kit for CNX-PAD8A 

The CNX-ASBK is an optional accessory designed 

to provide a clean solution for bussing together up 

to four CNX-PAD8A audio distribution processors. 

One CNX-ASBK bussing kit must be purchased for 

each CNX-PAD8A in the system. Each bussing kit 

includes a printed circuit board assembly, which 

installs in the CNX-PAD8A providing a set of multi-pin 

bussing connectors on the processor’s rear panel. 

A set of ribbon cables is also included, which tie 

between two stacked processors, effectively 

paralleling all eight inputs from the first processor 

to the next.

CNXRMCS TV Current Sensor 

The CNXRMCS is designed as an accessory for 

Crestron room solution boxes to provide power 

sensing of a single CRT-type television or similar highcurrent 

electronic device. A current sensor provides 

confirmation of the television’s power on/off state,

controlled TV’s that do not include discrete power
