◆ Development of the Durban<br />

Citrus Cold Store started in 1985<br />

/ 1986, with the pre-cooling<br />

facilities in the Port of Durban<br />

now being operated by Fresh<br />

Produce Terminals (FPT).<br />

The FPT services include cooling<br />

fruit in preparation for shipping,<br />

cold storage at the quayside,<br />

tracking pallets and loading fruit<br />

onto vessels for shipping.<br />

Transport of fruit within the cold<br />

storage facility is by packed<br />

cartons placed on wooden pallets<br />

and transferred using forklifts.<br />

This complex was originally<br />

designed without racking to<br />

support palletised fruit packed<br />

cartons.<br />

Due to a change in pallet size,<br />

racking was installed in 1997 in<br />
