CAREER HISTORY
LEGAL WRITING INSTRUCTOR
Koç University, Istanbul
September 2009 – Present
I am currently the Legal Writing Instructor at Koç University. The legal writing program
has been designed to teach law students how to use the English language in legal
writing as practicing lawyers or researchers. In addition to learning relevant legal
vocabulary and techniques for proficient legal writing, students are taught how to
prepare written work commonly undertaken by most law firms in legal practice, such as
contracts and interoffice memorandums. My PhD research thesis is based on the
analysis of the intertextual and interdiscursive nature of the contract negotiation
process to inform course development for an undergraduate legal writing program in
Turkey.
ACADEMIC WRITING INSTRUCTOR
Koç University, Istanbul
September 2008 – Present
As a faculty member of the Communications Department at Koç University, I also teach
content-based academic writing for both Introductory (Com 101) and Advanced (Comm
102) programs. I am responsible for developing content and material for both
programs, which involves writing across the curriculum for a variety of different majors
in the one class. While Comm 101 introduces students to the style and conventions of
academic writing, Comm 102 presents more advanced reading and writing tasks, and
helps students develop their writing and reading skills through a semester-long research
project. Emphasis continues to be on critical analysis, accurate summary and
paraphrase, and appropriate methods of citation. Koç University is one of only two
universities in Turkey to provide content-based academic writing programs.
ACADEMIC WRITING INSTRUCTOR 2008, 2009 & 2010
OSI NSP Summer Program, Istanbul
I have had the pleasure of working with the Open Society Institute team during three
In 2008 I was responsible teaching an academic legal writing program to a group of
Palestinian Rule of Law students at the OSI NSP Summer Program.
IN-HOUSE LAWYER March 2006 – June 2008
As in-house lawyer, I was solely responsible for drafting and negotiating distribution,
licensing and other legal agreements. I also reviewed and advised on a broad range of
complex legal corporate transactions and matters, including Intellectual Property and
Information Technology. I continue to do some legal consultancy work for
TeleResources.
