Guidance and
Steering
Not all automated steering systems are created equal. In fact, if you want
centimeter accuracy, simple setup and technical support troubleshooting
from a remote location, you won’t find a system that is ParaDyme’s equal.
And, if your field operations require high accuracy at very low operating
speeds (for example, specialty crops), you won’t find a better option.
2013 Ag Leader | 12
“ParaDyme is not only
highly accurate; it is also easy
to switch between vehicles. I’m
able to move it from my JD8100,
CLAAS AXION 810 and then also
use it with my combine at harvest
time. It allows me to get more
done every day.”
Juan Ignacio Labiano. Pamplona,
Navarra, Spain.
High Accuracy
Even at Low Speed
ParaDyme is the choice for operations
that require ultra-low speed operation
(as slow as 40 m/hr). Its dual-antenna
GNSS steering solution provides accuracy
within 1/10th of a degree – even when not
moving. This makes it the ideal steering
system for hipping, planting or harvesting
bedded crops, installing drip tape or
planting and harvesting specialty crops.
Proven Technology
ParaDyme’s field-proven
technology supports more
than 700 different vehicles,
including floaters, sprayers,
tile plows and other
specialty equipment.

Precision Farming Starts Here.
Today’s high-tech seed isn’t cheap. If you’re not controlling where and how
much of each type of seed you plant, you’re probably sacrificing yield potential
and bottom line performance. SeedCommand helps you manage all of your
planting operations, including seed population, hybrid/variety mapping, split
planting, swath control, seed meter performance, variable rates and planter/air
cart seeder performance.
2013 Ag Leader | 18
“We have been using
SeedCommand for three years.
Our fields are irregular shaped
and we calculated that we
were over-seeding at a rate of
10 - 20%. With seed prices
high, we can save a lot of money
using SeedCommand. I also
like that the line begins and
ends accurately right there,
where it needs, at the internal
side of headland. This is a huge
advantage for lease-work too.”
Air Cart seeder control
Hybrid/Variety Mapping
SeedCommand records planting
operations in real-time, mapping
the location of each hybrid/variety
planted. Compare observed planting
maps/data with yield maps to make
accurate, reliable decisions to
improve seed selection and increase
future profitability.
Variable Rate Planting
Control seed costs and improve yield
potential across the entire field with variable
rate planting. SeedCommand varies the
seeding rate based on prescription maps to
match seeding rates to soil potential.
AutoSwath
Automatically turn planter clutches or vacuum meters on/off based on field
maps and already-planted areas. On air seeder carts, AutoSwath controls the
metering circuit, automatically turning both seed and fertilizer on/off.
Data Logging
Record variable seeding rates, variable fertilizer application and generate
field maps that can be used to provide better post planting analysis.
SeedCommand Benefits:
• Elimination of overplanting means lower seed costs and improved yields.
• Night planting lengthens planting windows.
• Reduced skips and doubles – especially with variable seed shapes and sizes.
• Documented planting data for simple reporting requirements.
• Maximized yield through variable rate planting.
FOR PLANTERS
Hydraulic Down Force
Controlling a planter’s down force is a proven way to improve consistent emergence across the field and increase
yield. Ag Leader Hydraulic Down Force system drastically improves on air bag down force systems, providing
instant response to changing soil and field conditions that can’t be accomplished with air bag systems.
Ag Leader’s Hydraulic Down Force system ensures seeds are planted at the proper
depth by instantly adjusting to changes in soil types.
Advanced Seed Monitoring
SeedCommand offers complete planter
monitoring functions, eliminating the need
for an additional planter monitor. View data
and graphs on population, singulation,
skips/doubles and spacing in real-time on a
row-by-row basis. A virtual seed trench view
shows the placement of each seed in a row,
helping you determine if a problem exists
in the seed meter or the row unit.
MULTIPLE CHANNELS OF CONTROL
2013 Ag Leader | 20
CHANNEL 1 CHANNEL 2 CHANNEL 1
Two channels allow the
down force to be adjusted
separately on the planter
wings compared to the
center section of the
planter where there is
more soil compaction. This
is a big advantage over air
bag systems that average
downforce across the
entire toolbar.
Ag Leader’s Hydraulic Down Force
system adjusts pressure instantly
in changing soil types without the
inconsistency created by pneumatic
systems that respond over a longer
period of time (and land). It could take
a air bag system up to 20 seconds to
inflate enough to create the proper
down force, compared to one second
with Ag Leader’s Hydraulic Down Force
system. The difference? 1300 m 2
using a 24-row planter.

OptRx Crop Sensor
The use of crop sensing technology in grains, cereals and other
production ag crops is one technique to increase plant health and
yield potential. OptRx crop sensors measure the nitrogen needs of
your crop and provide application rate recommendations in
real-time to maximize your profit.
2013 Ag Leader | 26
“Nitrogen needed for crop varies
from year to year. There’s no rule
to orient ourselves. This was a
problem that we had when ten years
ago we had started to use maps for
fertilizer production in a variable
dose. Thanks to OptRx sensors
we can set nitrogen distribution
in coverage, saving product and
avoiding damage for overdose”.
Mr. Roberto Sarasso
Olcenengo (VC) –
Piemonte – Italy
How OptRx Works
• OptRx crop sensors are installed on front mounted brackets or
across the application boom.
• Emitting their own light source, the sensors measure crop vigor based
on plant mass and light reflectivity readings.
• The Vegetation Index (VI) is calculated based on field data from the
initial sensor calibration.
• Using the VI, DirectCommand applies nitrogen at variable rates
on-the-fly based on real-time crop readings.

When to Use OptRx
Wheat
The ideal application window for topdressing
wheat is when the crop is between tillering and
stem elongation growth stages. Any equipment
capable of topdressing the crop will work.
Barley
The ideal application window for topdressing
barley starts at stem elongation and continues
to boot stage. Any equipment capable of
topdressing barely will work.
Rapeseed
The ideal application window for rapeseed is
from tillering till the flower is visible on the
plant. Any equipment capable of topdressing
rapeseed will work.
The Causes and Effects of
Nitrogen Variability
Organic Material
Organic material is one of the most
significant sources of nitrogen in the soil.
The more organic matter present, the more
nitrogen the soil produces. Because organic
matter can vary with different soil types,
nitrogen availability in the soil can vary
greatly across the field.
Lodging and Under-Fertilizing
Under-fertilizing crops can lead to significant
losses in yield. At the same time, for wheat,
barley and other grass crops, over-fertilizing
can lead to lodging which can cost a grower
up to 60 percent of total yield.
OptRx Benefits:
• Reduce application of nitrogen in nitrogen-rich areas.
• Increase yield potential in nitrogen-poor areas of the field.
• Record crop vigor variation data across the field.
• Balance the affects of organic material variability across the field.
• Improve yield potential for crops harmed by denitrification due to poor drainage.
Rate Table
OptRx crop sensors are ideal for applying fertilizers, pesticides,
defoliants, growth regulators and other agrochemicals – on-the-go
at the rates necessary for optimum performance. Based on your own
experience or working with an agronomist or crop consultant, select a
Vegetation Index range and assign the recommended rates based on the
range chosen.
The Science Behind the Sensors
During photosynthesis
plants reflect green light and
absorb red and blue light to
create energy for the plant.
Three parts of the light
spectrum – red, red edge
and near-infrared light are
used to determine
plant health.
NEAR INFRARED LIGHT
NEAR INFRAR
Depending on the plant’s biomass, near-infrared light is either
reflected (meaning there is more biomass, thus a healthier plant),
or passes through – indicating less biomass and a weaker plant.
At the same time, healthier plants will
absorb more red and red edge light for
photosynthesis, so less will be reflected.
Using its own light source for consistency, OptRx crop
sensors analyze reflectance of both near-infrared and
red edge light to determine plant health.
As a plant grows light
reflectance changes
significantly. This chart
shows that if a crop
sensor only accounted
for one of these
three types of light,
accuracy could change
significantly as the
plant matures.
Many crop sensors use NDVI (Normalized
Difference Vegetation Index) to determine the health of the
plant. NDVI measures red and near infrared wavebands to
detect health, which works well in early stage plant growth
when soil can be seen between the crops. The graph above
shows that NDVI changes significantly between healthy and
weak crops in early growth states.
However, as the crop reaches complete cover,
NDVI is no longer effective in determining the weaker crops
from the healthier crops. The graph above shows that NDRE
(Normalized Difference Red Edge) is a better indicator of
differences between stronger and weaker crops at later
growth stages. Because OptRx uses both NDVI and NDRE,
it provides a more accurate view of plant vigor at all of the
crops stages of growth.
Intellislope
Water management is an important part of maximizing yield.
Properly-tiled fields can lengthen planting windows, promote better root
development, reduce field compaction, increase nutrient accessibility
and improve consistency of crop emergence. The Intellislope tile plow
control system makes installing tile easy, eliminating the need for
complicated laser surveying equipment. If you can drive a tractor, you
can install drainage tile with Intellislope.
2013 Ag Leader | 34
“For more than 50 years, we have
had tile installed on our farm. We
started doing the tiling ourselves
in 2002 after purchasing the tile
plow. In March 2011, we added the
Intellislope and since have used it
on several thousand meters. With
the ability to survey ahead of time
with the Intellislope, the tiling
process is more efficient. We can tile
so much more and do a better job of
installing with the Intellislope. It has
been one of the better purchases we
have made in some time.”
Steve Berger, Wellman, IA
Intellislope Benefits
• Increase field operation windows and reduce field compaction.
• Reduce yield-robbing affects of denitrification due to poor drainage.
• Provide deeper root zone and earlier soil warm up for better crop development.
• Eliminate hassles associated with laser surveying equipment/services.
• Do-it-yourself tile planning, recording and installation.
• Tile on your schedule with equipment you already own.
Data from your field is an invaluable resource to
help you make better management decisions.
• Utilize your existing yield maps to determine where tile is needed on your farm.
• Take advantage of automated soil survey downloads to have additional reference layers for planning your tile installation.
• Track yield improvements where tile has been installed.
Can be done ahead of time with an ATV, or
at the time of installation with the tile plow
utilizing RTK GPS. Collect surveys by driving
over the path where tile needs to be placed to
collect the surface elevation.
Plan
Enter the desired minimum/maximum and
target depths, as well as the minimum grade
to drain excess water from the field. This
can be done in the field or with the SMS
Advanced Water Management Module.
Install
Use the plan you created to install tile using
AutoTile to adjust the depth of the plow
automatically. You can also use Grade control or
Pitch control modes as needed.
AutoTile
Millions of meters of installed tile prove how well
AutoTile works to keep tile on grade. A three-step
process to Survey, Plan, and Install the tile is
as simple as it sounds. The system now has the
added benefit of Roll correction to keep the tile
depth at the desired level on side slopes.
Tile Line Recording
Importing survey and installed tile data
from the Ag Leader Integra to SMS software
provides a seamless way to manage and track
improvements in crop yield where tile has been
installed. Track main, sub-main and laterals,
as well as the amount of tile installed.
Guidance
As surveys are collected, a guidance line is created with the survey.
When the survey is loaded for installation, manual guidance is
automatically provided to ensure that the tile is placed where the
survey was recorded.
Well-drained soils encourage deeper root
development and healthier crops.
Saturated soils lead to shallow root
growth and poor plant development.
