A. Would the Minister indicate whether the Government’s promise<br />

to establish eight (8) new service stations offering compressed<br />

natural gas (CNG) by the end of fiscal 2011 was realized?<br />

B. If not, would the Minister indicate how many of the proposed<br />

eight (8) were established to date?<br />

C. If any of these new service facilities are now operational, would<br />

the Minister indicate the locations in each case?<br />

The Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs (Sen. The Hon. Kevin<br />

Ramnarine): Thank you very much, Mr. President. Before I start<br />

answering the question, permit me the opportunity to warmly welcome to<br />

the Senate, Sen. Jamal Mohammed. [Desk thumping]<br />

Mr.President, with respect to question 75 which was directed to the<br />

Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs, part (a) of the question:<br />

The Government announced several policy and fiscal measures in the<br />

2011—2012 budget statement, which sought to encourage the development<br />

of compressed natural gas (CNG), as a major alternative vehicular fuel in<br />

Trinidad and Tobago. Pursuant to its policy, the Government agreed to the<br />

development of eight new to industry retail marketing service stations sites,<br />

for the dispensing of both liquid fuels and compressed natural gas. These<br />

eight stations are in different stages of development.<br />

With respect to part (b) of the question:<br />

The status of the new to industry service stations are as follows:<br />

Two of the stations are currently under construction and nearing<br />

completion;<br />

Four are being reviewed in light of road construction plans by the<br />

Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, at the locations at which the stations
