Thailand 

The land of smiles 

Thailand possesses a wealth of architecture, culture, cuisine and traditions that are all 

distinctly Thai. The local people, with their natural charm and happy temperament, are 

wonderfully adept at making visitors feel right at home. Located in the heart of Southeast 

Asia, the natural scenery is rich and varied, from misty mountains and jungles in the 

north, through the flat emerald rice fields of the central plains, to white sandy beaches and 

tropical islands along the eastern seaboard and throughout the south. “The land of smiles” 

as it is sometimes called, has it all. 

Climate 

Thailand 

Thailand enjoys a tropical climate with 

three distinct seasons, hot and dry from 

February to May, rainy with plenty of 

sunshine from June to October and 

cool from November to January. Lower 

temperatures are experienced in the north, 

and the south has a tropical rainforest 

climate. 

Getting Around 

To get from the airport to the city we 

recommend private transfers. Other 

options include airport limo’s, metered 

taxis, train and airport bus services. To 

travel within the city, metered taxis are 

good options as they can be flagged down 

everywhere and are reasonably priced. The 

local ‘tuk-tuk’, an open sided three-wheel 

mini taxi, is perfect for short distances 

and a lot of fun. Air-conditioned sky trains 

operate daily from 6am to midnight along 

two inter-connecting lines – Sukumvit and 

Silom. 

Visas 

South African passport holders do not 

require a visa for stays of up to 30 days. 

■ Bangkok 

Thailand’s capital edges the banks of the 

Chao Phraya, the mighty ‘River of Kings’. 

First impressions are of a typical bustling 

modern metropolis, but look closer and you 

will discover a magical eastern city hidden 

away among the high-rises and shopping 

centres. Visit the Grand Palace and the 

adjoining Temple of the Emerald Buddha, 

the Reclining Buddha and the Floating 

Market. The city is a shoppers paradise 

where you are expected to bargain for 

everything, especially for designer clothing 

at bargain prices. Called the “City of 

Angels” by the Thais, Bangkok is primarily 

a city of exquisite beauty, where glittering 

temples, classical dancing, bustling 

nightlife, Thai boxing and beautiful girls 

will dazzle your senses. 

■ Chiang Mai 

Take to the mountains and explore the 

magical scenery, towns and customs of 

the north. Readily accessible by air, or by 

train to view the countryside. Chiang Mai 

is a bustling city on the banks of the Mae 

Ping River famous for its hill tribes, forests 

worked by elephants and Thai/Burmese 

style temples. Don’t miss the famous Night 

Bazaar where you will find delicately 

embroidered hilltribe cottons and exquisite 

handicrafts. 

■ Hua Hin 

A paradise for golfers and only 190km 

from Bangkok you find Hua Hin, the oldest 

beach resort in the kingdom. With fine 

beaches and watersports, great restaurants 

and all round family entertainment. 

■ Koh Lanta 

Famous for its pristine beaches surrounded 

by clear blue waters and coral reefs with 

abundant marine life. 

■ Koh Samui 

Koh Samui is Thailand’s third largest island 

and is accessible by air from Bangkok and 

Phuket, and by ferry from Surat Thani. It is 

fabled for its long, clean beaches, especially 

Chaweng lined with high quality resorts, 

numerous restaurants and entertainment 

spots. The island’s interior is mountainous 

and forested giving rise to a growing 

number of treks and eco-tours. 

■ Krabi 

Krabi has some of the most attractive 

scenery in Southern Thailand, stunning 

limestone cliffs fronting on fine white 

beaches coupled with fascinating islands 

in the Andaman Sea. Phra Nang Beach is 

considered to be the most beautiful and 

tourists from around the world are fast 

discovering this. 

■ Pattaya 

Just two hours drive Southeast of Bangkok 

you find the fun-and-sun culture of Pattaya. 

It’s the largest beach resort in the Asian 

tropics. Combined with its city attractions 

of shopping, restaurants, entertainment 

and good quality accommodation, makes 

Pattaya a perfect all-round holiday 

destination. 

■ Phi Phi Islands 

The renowned Phi Phi Islands attracts 

tourists to marvel at its glistering white 

sands, towering cliffs and blue waters. 

■ Phuket 

An island paradise, it is difficult to equal 

Phuket for superb natural beauty. Sandy 

coves along a spectacular coastline, clear 

azure waters, jungled hillsides, coconut 

plantations and a full range of watersports. 

Travellers who seek nightlife, rather than 

those natural attractions, should seek a

DAY 6: Xi’an – Chongqing – Yangtze River — 

Visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, then 

transfer to the airport for the flight to 

Chongqing. Take a tour to visit Pandas at

Chinese restaurants. Board the cruise ship.

DAY 7: Yangtze River Cruise — Journey 

downstream to Fengdu, the first port-ofcall,

Qutang Gorge and board a small boat on

Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago stretching for more than 5 000 kms across the equator. 

Vast and diverse as it is, the majority of its people are living on the five main islands with Jakarta, 

the main gateway and capital city of Indonesia. Like most modern cities it suffers from a bustling inner 

centre that is not always the most attractive feature, although fine examples of colonial architecture, good 

museums and exotic orchid gardens are in evidence. A miniature park representing Indonesia’s 27 provinces 

is a great attraction giving the visitor an insight into the country and what it has to offer. 

■ Bali 

The most popular destination in Indonesia 

is Bali. It offers beautiful landscapes, lush 

tropical forests, fast flowing rivers and 

picturesque rice terraces. There is a string 

of impressive volcanoes that run almost 

through the centre of Bali and it adds to 

the feeling of mystery and magic that one 

experiences whilst visiting this island. Bali 

offers great value for money and is an ideal 

destination for South Africans. There are 

many great beaches and resort areas each 

offering its own distinctive atmosphere. 

Sanur near to the capital Denpasar is 

recommended mainly due to the rows 

of little shops and restaurants that are 

scattered along the beach path connecting 

most of the resorts. Kuta, a thriving tourist 

resort with a bustling inner city area that

younger traveller. The jewel of Bali is Nusa 

Dua, in the South, which is home to some

Visas 

All visitors to India and Nepal require visas, which must be 

obtained prior to arrival. A multiple entry visa for India is required 

if you are visiting Nepal. 

Climate 

October to March tend to be the most pleasant months in India, 

when relatively dry and cool. In the far south, between January 

and September, while northeastern areas are more comfortable 

between March and August.The deserts of Rajasthan, west 

of Jodhpur and the northwestern Indian Himalayan region 

are at their best during the monsoon, July to September.The 

mountainous regions of Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir should be 

visited over the summer months of May to September. 

Health regulations and medical precautions 

Yellow fever inoculations are highly recommended, and you may 

choose to be immunised against polio, tetanus and typhoid. Anti 

malaria medication is also recommended. It is not advisable to 

drink any tap water. Medical insurance is absolutely essential. 

Clothing 

Emphasis should be on comfort and informality. During the winter 

months sweaters or jackets are necessary at night. Closed walking 

shoes are recommended, and socks should be worn when visiting 

religious sites where shoes have to be removed. 

Places of worship and religious customs 

Some temples will not permit any leather items inside, including 

camera cases, handbags and watch straps, however your guide 

will ensure custody of these items. It is customary to cover the 

head before entering a Sikh place of worship, and bare legs are not 

permitted in mosques. We recommend that no shorts or halter tops 

are worn by ladies during sightseeing tours or when walking in the 

streets. 

■ Agra 

Along with Delhi and Jaipur, forms the ‘Golden Triangle’, India’s 

favourite tourist route. Just 200km south of Delhi, it makes an easy 

day trip by train. However it is worth spending at least a night 

here just to truly appreciate the wondrous Taj Mahal and its many 

moods. At dawn the mausoleum changes from grey to pink to 

brilliant-white.

DAY 1: Delhi — You are met and transferred 

to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. 

Overnight in Delhi. 

DAY 2: Delhi – Thimpu — Enjoy views of 

Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu and 

other peaks in Bhutan such as Chomolhari, 

Jichu Drake and Tsering Ghang, on a 

flight to Paro. Transfer to Thimphu, the 

capital. Explore the local market and drive 

to Buddha Point, the largest statue in the 

country. Overnight. 

DAY 3: Thimphu — Tour the National 

Library, with its vast collection of ancient 

Buddhist texts and manuscripts. Visit the 

Institute for Zorig Chusum.The school 

offers a six-year course on the 13 traditional 

arts and crafts of Bhutan. Visit the King’s 

Memorial Chorten and Trashichhodzong, 

the impressive fortress/monastery, house 

of the Secretariat building and the throne 

room of His Majesty, the King. Browse the 

local craft shops where you can buy handwoven 

textiles, Thangkha paintings, masks, 

ceramics, slate and wood carvings and 

jewellery. Overnight in Thimphu. 

DAY 4: Thimphu – Punakha — Drive up 

to Dochu-la Pass stopping briefly for 

spectacular views. Admire the Chorten, 

Mani Wall, and prayer flags. Visit Chimi 

Lakhang, situated in the centre of the 

valley. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight 

in Punakha. 

DAY 5: Punakha – Paro — Visit the Punakha 

Dzong, built in 1637 at the junction of Pho 

Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Damaged by 

four catastrophic fires and an earthquake, 

the Dzong has been fully restored by 

the present king. Visit the Ta Dzong 

Watchtower Museum and walk down a 

hillside trail to Rinpung Dzong, built in 

1646. Overnight in Paro. 

DAY 6: Paro — Morning excursion to 

Taktshang Lakhang, perched on the side 

of a cliff and one of Bhutan’s most famous 

monasteries. En route to Paro visit Kyichu 

Lhakhang, one of the oldest monasteries 

of the kingdom, reflecting introduction of 

Buddhism in Bhutan. Overnight in Paro. 

DAY 7: Paro – Delhi — After an early 

breakfast, drive to the airport for your flight 

to Delhi. Overnight in Delhi. 

DAY 8: Delhi — Transfer to Delhi 

International airport for your flight.

Far East and Australasia 

■ Deposits: 

A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the cost of 

arrangements is required within 72 hours of the booking 

confirmation. (30% for cruises). 

■ Final Payment: 

All reservations must be prepaid. Final payment is due 

six weeks prior to departure. This may vary in the case of 

cruises and certain other arrangements. 

In making payment you confirm that you have read and 

accepted these Terms and Conditions. 

Failure to remit final payment on due date will result in 

cancellation of reservations, forfeiture of deposit and may 

attract cancellation costs. 

■ Late Booking Fees: 

Reservations made within 7 days of departure will be 

subject to a fee of R200 plus VAT. Once confirmed, these 

bookings will be subject to cancellation charges. Some 

bookings require full payment at the time of booking. 

■ Amendments: 

An amendment fee of R200 plus VAT will be charged 

for each amendment made to confirmed reservations, 

in addition to any cancellation charges which may be 

applicable. 

■ Cancellations: 

In the event of cancellation, which must be received 

in writing, charges will be determined at the time of 

cancellation. The following indicates the maximum 

charges that can be imposed: 

• More than 6 weeks prior to departure: Deposit forfeited. 

• Less than 6 weeks but more than 28 days prior to 

departure: 60% of the costs. 

• Within 28 to 14 days of departure: 80% of the costs. 

• Within 14 days of departure: 100% of costs. 

■ Refunds: 

Whilst all vouchers are issued on the understanding that 

all services are non-refundable, refund applications may 

be considered only under the following conditions: 

• Cancellation or amendment of any hotel 

accommodation after departure can only be made 

directly with Travel Vision’s Suppliers. 

• Proof of cancellation can be substantiated: i.e. date, 

time, name and cancellation number. 

• Claims are received in writing no later than 30 days 

following completion of services reserved and original 

vouchers are returned to Travel Vision. 

Notwithstanding the above, no refunds on unused 

car rentals, attraction entrances, apartment 

reservations or package components will be 

considered. 

Subject to any additional charges levied by the service 

providers, any refund will attract a minimum charge of 

10% of the cost or the first night’s accommodation in 

each city, whichever is the greater. 

■ Important: 

Various service providers may impose special terms and 

conditions regarding deposits, payments, cancellation 

fees and/or refunds from time to time. All reservations 

would be subject to these additional conditions. 

Terms & Conditions 2013/2014 

■ Vouchers and Itineraries: 

Must be checked upon receipt and all inaccuracies 

reported to your travel agent. Travel Vision will not be 

liable for any inaccuracies after departure from South 

Africa. 

■ Insurance: 

We strongly advise passengers to take out insurance 

at the time of booking, covering cancellation, medical 

expenses, loss of baggage and curtailment. Ask your 

ASATA Travel Agent for details. Passengers are responsible 

for their own insurance and Travel Vision will not be 

liable in the event of a passenger failing to take adequate 

insurance cover. 

■ Costs: 

All costs in this brochure are based on tariffs and 

exchange rates at the time of publishing. All costs are 

subject to alteration in the event of fluctuations in tariffs 

and/or exchange rates. Until full payment is received your 

entire booking is subject to currency fluctuation/fuel 

surcharge increase. 

It should be clearly understood that the rates in this 

brochure include our administration, planning and 

operational expenses. All prices reflected are in respect of 

payment by cash only. 

It is an express condition that in any event, at the time of 

final payment, Travel Vision shall not be bound to accept 

payment if the actual costs vary from our brochure / 

Confirmation. 

Certain hotels may from time to time offer specially 

discounted rates for limited periods. These rates are not 

utilized in our programmes, and reservations can only be 

made direct with the hotel. 

■ Hotels: 

On all Tours, Packages and Hotel Reservations, the right is 

reserved to substitute hotels listed with others of a similar 

or higher category at no additional cost to the passenger. 

Hotels undergo renovations from time to time and take 

all possible steps to limit disruption to their guests. We 

will not entertain complaints or refund requests if a hotel 

is carrying out renovations whilst a guest is resident. 

Hotel descriptions featured in this brochure are based 

on current hotel guides and contractual agreements 

provided by suppliers. Any facilities supplied are subject 

to change at any time. 

Note: Check in time is usually late afternoon/early 

evening and check out mid-morning. Prices quoted are 

an indication only, dynamic online rates available. 

■ Travel Documents: 

The onus rests on the passenger to ensure that all their 

travel documents are in order. Travel Vision will not be 

held liable for any loss as a result of errors. 

■ Possible Changes: 

The duration of the travel arrangements may have 

to be extended or curtailed owing to unforeseeable 

circumstances such as force majeure, adverse weather 

conditions and changes in transportation schedules etc. 

Any resultant expense shall be borne by the passenger 

and any saving refunded. Travel Vision and its service 

providers reserve the right to cancel any reservations 

prior to departure; in which event the entire payment will 

be refunded without any further obligation. 

Travel Vision reserves the right to change requested 

hotels, apartments, cabins etc. to that of an equal or 

higher grade, even after departure from South Africa. 

Travel Vision is not responsible for any changes which 

occur subsequent to the publication of this brochure. 

■ Flight Reconfirmation: 

It is the passenger’s responsibility to reconfirm all 

departure dates and times of all flights at least 72 

hours prior to departure. Failure to do so may result in 

cancellation of reservations by the airline. 

■ Airline Responsibility: 

The airline concerned is not to be held responsible for any 

act, omission or event during the time the passengers are 

not on board their aircraft. The passenger tickets in use by 

the airline, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract 

between the airline and the purchaser of these tickets 

and/or passenger. 

■ Responsibility: 

Travel Vision (Pty) Ltd (herein called the Company) cannot 

be held responsible for any charges incurred abroad 

that appear on a passenger’s credit card, nor accept the 

responsibility of having any of these charges reversed or 

corrected upon the passenger’s return to South Africa. 

The Company, in making arrangements for transportation, 

conveyance, hotel accommodation or any other service, 

acts as agents only and is not liable as a principle. Travel 

Vision does not own, manage, control or operate any 

transportation vehicle, any hotel or restaurant or any 

other supplier service. 

Bookings for the services provided by our suppliers will 

form a direct contract between passengers and the 

relevant supplier and will also be subject to the suppliers 

Terms and Conditions. 

Furthermore, the Company shall not be liable for 

any injury, death, loss, damage, accident, delay or 

inconvenience, howsoever caused, during any journey, 

tour, residence or other facility arranged or booked by 

the Company. The Company is not liable for any failure 

to make satisfactory or any arrangements or booking, 

whether such failure is occasioned by any of its servants, 

agents, principals, sub-contractors or otherwise. Any 

loss or additional expense due to delays, changes or 

cancellations of air, rail, road, sea or any other service, 

strikes, sickness, theft, war, weather or other causes, will 

have to be borne by the passenger. In the event that you 

are not satisfied with any aspect of your arrangements, 

you must immediately inform our local supplier who 

will endeavour to resolve the issue at the time. If on your 

return you have a further complaint or query, you should 

notify your Travel Agent within 30 days of the original 

service. All information contained in the Travel Vision 

brochures/flyers/itineraries/website/electronic media 

etc. are to the best of our knowledge and belief accurate 

at the time of publication, but Travel Vision accepts no 

liability for errors/inaccuracies that may occur.
