LABORATORY EQUIPMENT & FACILITIES<br />
Students are encouraged to use the laboratory equipment and facilities to practice their<br />
skills. This is essential for their success in the PTA curriculum. The following rules must<br />
be adhered to:<br />
Laboratory Rules<br />
1. All <strong>student</strong>s must sign in and out on the sign in sheet in the lab if they wish to use<br />
the laboratory for additional practice when it is not scheduled for teaching.<br />
Students are also required to sign in and out of the lab and computer room,<br />
when using them for extra practice.<br />
2. A <strong>student</strong> may use a piece of equipment only if he/she has been instructed in its<br />
use. The <strong>student</strong> must possess a working knowledge of the equipment, including<br />
indications and contraindications.<br />
3. No electrical equipment is to be used unless a member of the P.T.A. faculty is in<br />
attendance and/or has given permission. However, if the equipment remains<br />
unplugged, the <strong>student</strong> may practice with the modalities any time the lab is free.<br />
4. Each <strong>student</strong> is responsible for the equipment he/she is using.<br />
5. Students are to remove their shoes when utilizing the treatment tables and floor<br />
mats.<br />
6. Report any damage of equipment immediately to the laboratory instructor.<br />
7. Each <strong>student</strong> is required to clean the treatment area and equipment upon<br />
completion of use.<br />
8. All equipment must be returned to the shelf, cabinet, etc., where it is usually<br />
stored.<br />
9. All of the safety rules you have been instructed in when using various pieces of<br />
equipment and/or performing various procedures must be adhered to.<br />
10. If you wish to receive additional instruction from department faculty in any<br />
procedures, you must make arrangements that are mutually convenient.<br />
11. To insure the <strong>student</strong>'s privacy and to protect them against any embarrassment,<br />
no unauthorized visitors will be permitted in the PTA lab during class session.<br />
This also applies to other course lab sessions when deemed appropriate by the<br />
instructor.<br />
12. To insure the <strong>student</strong>'s safety, it is recommended that, when practicing in the lab,<br />
they do so in the company of at least one other PTA <strong>student</strong> and with the door<br />
closed.<br />
