The New Sponsor-a-Cat and
Sponsor-a-Dog Program
In the new Sponsor-a-Cat and Sponsora-Dog
program, instead of sponsoring a
cage, the donor would sponsor the cost of
an aspect of care for one symbolic shelter
cat or dog throughout a calendar year.
The levels of sponsorship are water, food,
shelter and love and the sponsorships are
offered on a yearly basis based with a rolling
renewal schedule.
Why did you change your
program?
The Chemung County Humane Society and
SPCA was very fortunate to receive a grant
from the Sweetbay Foundation in 2008
to remodel the cat adoption room.
This grant allowed for what is
called “colony housing,”
in which cats live together
in a series of
large, more spacious
condos.
For this reason, we can no longer continue
the “Sponsor-a-cage” program because
the new condos house several cats at one
time, making the cost of sponsoring the
care of all cats in the cage far beyond the
previous year’s sponsorship costs. We will
of course honor last year’s participants in
the “Sponsor-a-Cage” Program by placing
their names on the new Sponsor-a-Cat,
Sponsor-a-Dog Plaque in the appropriate
category. However, when we ask for a
renewal, the new sponsorship categories
will apply.
How will my sponsorship be
displayed?
Sponsorship will be displayed
in a different
way with our new
program. Instead of
the plaque being
on a specific
cage, a large
display recognizing
sponsors
will be placed in the
cat adoption and dog
adoption rooms respectively
with levels
and names of those
participating in new
sponsor programs. These will not
be traditional plaques, but more
modern, playful displays.

care, to a shelter dog or cat.

enough money for food and treats for a
shelter dog or a shelter cat.
