<strong>ERNWACA</strong>- <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2009</strong><br />
“Objectives and Strategies for <strong>the</strong> development of H.E “Medium and Long term<br />
objectives”<br />
“Sustainable Strategies for <strong>the</strong> Financing of Higher Education in <strong>the</strong> Gambia”.<br />
(Papers submitted to <strong>the</strong> Task Force).<br />
• <strong>2009</strong> The Gambia Chapter was selected and awarded a contract by <strong>the</strong> Ministry of<br />
Education to undertake a study entitled “A Study of <strong>the</strong> Guidance and Counselling Unit of<br />
<strong>the</strong> Gambia College”. (Funded by <strong>the</strong> (ADB). The Study is completed).<br />
• <strong>2009</strong>/10 The Gambia Chapter has been invited to submit proposals to <strong>the</strong> GAMWORKS<br />
World Bank Agency for <strong>the</strong> “Training and Curriculum Development of 50 clerks of Works<br />
for <strong>the</strong> public and private sectors”.<br />
Two <strong>ERNWACA</strong> members have been short listed by <strong>the</strong> Ministry among o<strong>the</strong>rs to submit<br />
proposals for <strong>the</strong> following studies and projects.<br />
Mr. Ousainou Loum – Head of Education, University of <strong>the</strong> Gambia to submit proposal for:<br />
“The Development of Training Module and Training of Master Trainers”. (For <strong>the</strong> ECD<br />
programme in The Gambia)<br />
This would include.<br />
(i) Review of existing curriculum and training materials.<br />
(ii) Development of standardized comprehensive training package that will guide trainers<br />
of <strong>the</strong> two age (0-6 years) cohorts. Etc.<br />
Dr. Y. Benett, Scientific Adviser and International expert to submit proposals on:<br />
“An operational guideline development”. (For ECD projects / programme)<br />

This would Include,<br />
Developing realistic and user-friendly operational guidelines for Implementing and coordinating<br />
<strong>the</strong> ECCD / JSDF Grant.<br />
Training relevant stakeholders on <strong>the</strong> use of <strong>the</strong> Mentioned operational manual (etc.).<br />
All <strong>the</strong> proposals have been submitted and are now under consideration. <strong>ERNWACA</strong><br />
Gambia Chapter will work and co-ordinate <strong>the</strong> projects, if awarded, with <strong>the</strong> consultants.<br />
NON ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERSPECTIVES<br />
1. The Replacement of stolen IT equipment,<br />
2. Setting up a Documentation Unit/Section for <strong>the</strong> Gambia office to:<br />
a. Process <strong>ERNWACA</strong> Research <strong>Report</strong>s / Papers (Cataloguing, recording<br />
abstracts etc).<br />
b. Storing <strong>the</strong>se research reports/papers in a glass cupboard.<br />
c. Disseminating <strong>the</strong>se reports to a wider Audience.<br />
Funding will be required for <strong>the</strong> above activities. Please note: most of <strong>the</strong> funds mobilized from<br />
local contracts goes towards payment of salaries of local staff, electricity, water, telephones,<br />
Internet connections and fuel.<br />
3. Putting toge<strong>the</strong>r an appropriate compendium of all (<strong>ERNWACA</strong>) Gambia research reports<br />
completed in recent years (Including <strong>the</strong> Small Grants Research <strong>Report</strong>s).<br />
4. Organize a 2 – 3 week full-time hands-on research Capacity Building Workshop on both<br />
Qualitative and Quantitative research methodologies.<br />
We intend building up Collaborative Research partnership (both South-South and North South<br />
partnerships) through working on <strong>the</strong> ground, with local researchers in educational Institutions and<br />
Ministries on local and cross national research projects<br />
We anticipate renewing our signed Memorandum of Understanding with <strong>the</strong> Ministry of Basic and<br />
Secondary Education during 2010.<br />
