<strong>Alan</strong> has run Leeside Consultants, a maritime consulting business, since 2000. Prior to this he<br />
was CEO of Lloyd's Maritime Information Services Ltd. and Managing Director of MaritimeData<br />
Ltd. Both were maritime information and consulting businesses. He has also worked in a<br />
shipping line operating container and Ro-Ro services, where he was a Director.<br />
He has over 20 years consulting experience and has worked on a wide variety of projects, the<br />
majority of which have involved analysing markets and providing business advice. His container<br />
industry experience covers all aspects of ship and landside operations, and commercial<br />
management. As a consultant he has worked on projects that have covered operational,<br />
regulatory and commercial matters in all sectors of the industry and on forecasting traffic flows<br />
for both port developments and risk analysis.<br />
He has successfully identified, conceptualised and developed new business opportunities, as<br />
well as new products and services, both as a business manager and as a consultant.<br />

Managing Director<br />
Founded and raised finance for the development of an Internet based information business. The<br />
business, which compiled and integrated data from a range of information providers, was one of<br />
the first to do so using advanced analytical tools on the Web. The product development was<br />
completed on time and to budget. It was subsequently sold to Strategic Software in July 1999.

Lloyd’s Maritime Information Services Ltd. 1986 to June 1997<br />
Chief Executive<br />
Established and developed the business activities of Lloyd's Maritime Information Services Ltd.<br />
(LMIS). LMIS provided electronic information and transportation consultancy services. The<br />
company was a joint venture (up to March 1997) between LLP Ltd. (now Informa PLC) and Lloyd's<br />
Register of Shipping. Had full P&L responsibility from the company’s inception.<br />
Grew revenue and profitability from start up to achieve a profit of £1.7m on a turnover of<br />
£5.6m (£6.3m for the group) in 1996.<br />
Successfully managed the relationship between the shareholders.<br />
Maintained a stable core team of trained staff.<br />
Profitably expanded the range of products and services (within strict operating constraints set<br />
by the shareholders).<br />
Developed a successful consultancy practice concentrating on the strategic analysis of trade<br />

company operating a container and Ro-Ro service from Europe to Southern Africa.<br />
Managed operations of intermodal container shipping line within the strict guidelines of a<br />
financial pool. Turnover £25m. Direct staff 10 (plus operational staff in agents worldwide).<br />
Negotiated charterparties.<br />
Managed the company’s U.K. sales for a period of nine months as an additional<br />
