Today’s sightseeing begins with<br />
Deoksunggung Palace followed by<br />
fascinating Gwangjang Market,<br />
<strong>Seoul</strong>’s oldest covered marketplace.<br />
Jostle through Gyeongdong Market,<br />
one of the largest herbal and ginseng<br />
markets in South Korea and famous<br />
Insadong otherwise known as antique<br />
alley’. Visit Myeong-dong Cathedral,<br />
the largest Catholic church in Korea<br />
with a lovely Gothic interior. Later<br />
walk the beautiful Cheonggyecheon<br />
Stream, an oasis of natural beauty<br />
featuring charming bridges, fine<br />
marble and sculptures all in the heart<br />
of <strong>Seoul</strong>. A welcome dinner this<br />
evening features a spread of<br />
delicious Korean dishes traditionally<br />
enjoyed by royals and aristocrats at<br />

After breakfast this morning you drive<br />
to Hwaseong Fortress and visit the<br />
Suwon UNESCO site, the ancient<br />
capital of the Baekje Kingdom from<br />
475-539 at Gongju and Buyeo.<br />
Buyeo is a lovely place to absorb<br />
‘everyday’ South Korea. At day’s end<br />
in Songnisan you are able to observe<br />
the monks’ rituals at Beopjusa<br />
Temple one of the most magnificent<br />
temple sites in all Korea.<br />

SONGNISAN-GWANGJU<br />
Today you head south, stopping en<br />
route for a delicious traditional lunch<br />
of Jeonju Bimbimbap. This is the<br />

combination of<br />
steamed rice,<br />
sautéed<br />
vegetables,<br />
pepper paste and<br />
meats or egg. It is acclaimed as one<br />
of the world’s most delicious foods.<br />
After lunch you continue to the<br />
Gochang Dolmen site and Damyang<br />
before arriving in Gwangju to<br />

GWANGJU - SEONAMSA TEMPLE<br />
This morning you drive via the scenic<br />
tea plantation country of Boseong to<br />
Seonamsa Temple, praised as the<br />
most beautiful and mysterious<br />
temple in all Korea. It is such a lovely<br />
example of the beauty of antiquity.<br />
Here you can experience Korean<br />
Buddhist culture firsthand. Enjoy the<br />
lush natural environment, participate<br />
in Zen meditation and Buddhist rites<br />
and achieve a real peace of mind,<br />
relaxation and sense of freedom and<br />
joy. Recharge and engage in this<br />
ancient culture, go on a temple walk<br />
or mountain trek, or try lotus paper<br />
lantern making. Partake in<br />
barugongyang- Buddhist meals in<br />
traditional wooden bowls, and tea<br />
ceremonies, which are not just about<br />
sipping tea but are part of an ancient<br />

natural beauty of the mountains. In<br />
the afternoon you travel on to Jirisan<br />
stopping at the Naganeupseong Folk<br />
Village and Hwaeumsa Temple.<br />

a Jimjilbang hot spring, a perfect<br />

Cheonghakdong<br />
village, a Shamanist traditional<br />
community. In this remote village,<br />
only connected to electricity twenty<br />
years ago, the locals maintain the<br />
custom of wearing hair knots and<br />
traditional clothing as they work and<br />
farm in the age old manner of living.<br />
Next to Cheonghakdong is the holy<br />
worship ground of Hawanin. To<br />
enter this sanctuary you must strike<br />
the gong three times and wait for an<br />
ascetic to guide you.<br />

JIRISAN - BUSAN<br />
This morning you visit Jinjuseong<br />

stroll through Sanbangsan Biwon<br />
Garden. The gardens are a showcase<br />
of beautiful local wildflowers, unique<br />
flora and gorgeous autumnal colour.<br />
Choose a cafe for lunch before<br />
travelling to the city of Busan on the<br />
south eastern tip of the Korean<br />
peninsula this afternoon. Busan is the<br />
second largest city in Korea and is<br />
often called the summer capital of<br />
Korea as it has many fine beaches<br />
and a pleasant climate. You visit the<br />
Koraen Buddhist Temple of Beomeosa<br />
before checking in to your hotel for the<br />
next two nights.<br />
