Congratulations to all students who took <strong>GCSE</strong> and A level Examinations this summer, we are delighted with<br />

Top achievement at <strong>GCSE</strong>!<br />

Congratulations to all of last year’s Year 11 students on your <strong>GCSE</strong> results this summer. These results are among<br />

the very best of recent years and they are a credit to all of your hard work.<br />

Headline figures<br />

The percentage of pupils gaining five or more <strong>GCSE</strong>s at grades A* to C this year was 97.4%<br />

The percentage of pupils gaining five or more <strong>GCSE</strong>s at grades A* to C including both English and<br />

Mathematics was 96.1%<br />

The percentage of pupils gaining five or more <strong>GCSE</strong>s at grades A* to C including English, Mathematics and<br />

all Science subjects was also 96.1%<br />

18.34% of all grades were A*<br />

48% of all grades were A*, A<br />

77% of all grades were A*, A and B<br />

94% of all grades were A*, A, B and C<br />

97% of students gained at least two Science subjects (A* to C)<br />

The average number of <strong>GCSE</strong> passes / student was 10<br />

The percentage of pupils who achieved the English Baccalaureate* was 76%<br />

Overall, one third of pupils (34.6%) gained 8 or more A*/A grades including English and Maths.<br />

*The English Baccalaureate is a new measure that indicates the % of pupils who gain at least Grade C in all of<br />

the following subjects: English, Mathematics, one MFL subject, two Science subjects, Geography or History. In<br />

2011 the national figure <strong>for</strong> the E.Bacc was 17% and <strong>Wirral</strong> <strong>Grammar</strong> <strong>School</strong> was in the top 200 schools with<br />

75%.<br />

Notable individual achievements:<br />

There were notable individual achievements at all levels this year<br />

At the highest grades, 12 pupils gained a minimum of 7A* grades. 20 pupils gained A*/A grades in all of their<br />

subjects and 24 pupils gained A*/A grades in ten or more subjects.


Six pupils: George Anderson, Jawad Qureshi, Oliver Wedgewood, Samuel Molyneux, Daniel Kowalski, Bence<br />

Barton, each gained ten or more A* grades. George Anderson and Jawad Qureshi each gained at least 11 A*<br />

grades.<br />

One student, Jawad Qureshi gained a stunning 14.5 A* grades making him one of the highest achieving<br />

students in recent years.<br />

Record-breaking results at A Level!<br />

Congratulations to all students who gained their A Level results this summer! The results were a credit to your<br />

hard work and commitment; collectively you set a number of new school records. In fact most of the ‘headline’<br />

figures below are new school records! Very best wishes as you now prepare <strong>for</strong> the next stage in your career<br />

whether it is University or apprenticeship. We look <strong>for</strong>ward to seeing you at the Certificate Evening at Hulme Hall<br />

in December. Please keep in touch with us in the years ahead and keep us in<strong>for</strong>med of your progress.<br />

In the face of growing national competition <strong>for</strong> university places it is very pleasing to see our students<br />

per<strong>for</strong>ming so well.<br />

Headline Figures<br />

• The pass rate <strong>for</strong> all A level examinations taken this summer was an incredible 99.8%<br />

• The overall pass rate including General Students which all students took in Year 12 is 98.5% (R)<br />

• 95% gained at least 4 A level passes (R)<br />

• The average number of passes per student was 4.18 (=R)<br />

• The average number of QCA points* per student was the highest ever at 1073.9 (R)<br />

• The average number of UCAS points per student was record breaking 438.4 (R)<br />

• Nearly a third of all grades (31%) were A* or A, (57%) were at top grades A*/A/B and 79% at grades A* to C.<br />

*QCA points refers to the exam board system <strong>for</strong> numerically calculating the value of grades gained in<br />

subjects.<br />

** UCAS points refers to the University system <strong>for</strong> numerically calculating the value of grades gained in subjects<br />

and it is this figure and is used by many Universities when making grade offers.


(R) indicates a new school record<br />

Notable individual achievements<br />

Nicholas Harvey and Gareth Mattey both obtained five A* grades. Sean Cavanagh and Usman Hyatt both<br />

achieved four A* grades. A further five students achieved at least two A* grades, including James Lewis who<br />

obtained two A*, four grade A’s and one grade B.<br />

Three students are to take up places at Ox<strong>for</strong>d or Cambridge Universities<br />

• Nicholas Harvey is to read Natural Sciences at Trinity Hall, Cambridge<br />

• Gareth Mattey is to read English at Trinity Hall, Cambridge<br />

• David Field is to read Law at Magdalen College, Ox<strong>for</strong>d<br />

• One student, Luke Cartwright has gained a place at Yale University (USA) to read Earth Sciences<br />

Several students are to take up places at medical and dentistry schools<br />

• Sean Cavanagh : University College, London<br />

• Usman Hyatt : Birmingham<br />

• Sagar Jadeja : Glasgow<br />

• Elliot Jones : Newcastle<br />

• Saad Qureshi : Birmingham<br />

Three more students who left school last year are taking up places at medical and dentistry schools this year<br />

outstanding school.<br />

We wish to congratulate and sincerely thank the students, the teaching staff, the Heads of Department, the<br />

Senior Staff, the support staff and not least, all of our supportive parents, <strong>for</strong> their combined contributions in<br />

producing these excellent results.<br />

The Governing Body can take some solace as this is the first year that these results will be officially recorded<br />
