Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the Seventh International Endodontic Symposium of the
University of Southern California School of Dentistry. Internationally renowned speakers from Argentina,
France and the United States will present to you the most recent updates and advances in endodontics.
In this year’s symposium we will pay a special tribute to Drs. Al Frank and Dudley Glick. Al and Dudley
were instrumental in shaping what is thought, what is taught and what is practiced in endodontics at
USC and around the world. Both were legendary educators and international leaders in the field of
endodontics who mentored and inspired many generations of students and oral health care professionals.
A tribute in honor of Drs. Al Frank and Dudley Glick will be held at the opening ceremony of the
symposium on Friday, November 14, 2008.

Harold Slavkin, DDS (USA)
Dr. Slavkin is the G. Donald and Marian James Montgomery Professor of Dentistry and the Dean of the USC School of
Dentistry. From 1995 - 2000 he served as the Director of the National Institute of Craniofacial and Dental Research (NIDCR)
of the National Institutes of Health. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is a
Member of the Institute of Medicine and National Academy of Sciences. He is Past-President of the American Association for
Dental Research and has received honorary doctorate degrees from the Univ. of Maryland, Univ. of Paris, Univ. of Connecticut,
Univ. of New Jersey, Univ. of Montreal and Georgetown University.

Syngcuk Kim, DDS, PhD, MD (Hon.) (USA)
Dr. Kim is Chairman of the Department of Endodontics and the Louis I. Grossman Professor of Endodontics at the University
of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. He received his BA degree from Columbia University in 1972 and DDS degree
from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1976. In 1978, he received his certificate in Endodontics and
in 1981 a PhD degree, both from Columbia University. Dr. Kim is Director of the Laboratory of Pulp Physiology and the
Microscope Training Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He received many distinguished
awards, among them the AAE's Louis I. Grossman Award (1990), IADR's Pulp Biology Award (1991), Honorary Medical
Doctorate by the Karl Franzen University, Graz, Austria (2002), Distinguished Alumni Award by the Columbia University School
of Dental and Oral Surgery (2005) and the AAE's Ralph Sommer Award (2006). Dr. Kim publishes extensively and has lectures
frequently both nationally and internationally.

Nadia Chugal, DDS, MS, MPH (USA)
Dr. Chugal is Associate Clinical Professor and Director of the post-graduate residency program in Endodontics at the
University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She received her DDS degree as well as MS in Oral Biology and MPH in Public
Health from UCLA, completed hospital-based General Practice Residency at IMMC in Chicago and received a certificate in
Endodontics from the University of Connecticut. She was a research fellow and faculty member at UCONN until she joined
UCLA as faculty. Dr. Chugal is Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and maintains a private practice limited to
Endodontics. Her research interests include endodontic treatment outcomes and improving treatment prognosis.

John West, DDS, MSD (USA)
Dr. West received his DDS from the University of Washington in 1971 where he is an Affiliate Associate Professor. He received
his MSD in endodontics from Boston University in 1975 where he is a clinical instructor and has been awarded the
Distinguished Alumni Award. He is the Founder and Director of the Center for Endodontics and currently serves as Associate
Director of Endodontics at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry. Dr. West coauthored Obturation of the Radicular Space with
Dr. John Ingle in Ingle’s 1994 and 2002 editions of Endodontics and was senior author of Cleaning and Shaping the Root
Canal System in Cohen and Burns 1994 and 1998 Pathways of the Pulp. He has recently authored Endodontic Predictability
in Dr. Michael Cohen’s 2008 Quintessence text Comprehensive Treatment Planning: Principles of the Masters. Dr. West’s
memberships include: 2009 President of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and 2010 President of the Academy of
Microscope Enhanced Dentistry, the Northwest Network for Dental Excellence, and the International College of Dentists. Dr.
West is a Thought Leader for Kodak Digital Dental Systems and serves on the editorial advisory boards of the Journal of
Advanced Esthetics and Interdisciplinary Dentistry, the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Practical Procedures and
Aesthetic Dentistry, and the Journal of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry.

Parish Sedghizadeh, DDS, MS (USA)
Dr. Sedghizadeh is Assistant Professor of Clinical Dentistry at the USC School of Dentistry. He received his bachelor’s degree
in biology from UCLA, D.D.S. degree from USC and specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from the Ohio State
University, where he attained an M.S. degree in oral biology and fellowship status in the American Academy of Oral and
Maxillofacial Pathology. In Ohio, Dr. Sedghizadeh was awarded fellowship by the American Cancer Society for conducting
research at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, investigating the early molecular
events involved in the progression of head and neck cancer. Dr. Sedghizadeh is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral
and Maxillofacial Pathology.

Jean-Yves Cochet, DDS (FRANCE)
Dr. Cochet received his DDS from the University of Paris VII in 1984 and his endodontic training from the University of Paris
VII in 1990. He has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Paris VII from 1986 to 1990. He was teaching
at the post-graduate program of endodontics directed by Dr. J.M Laurichesse from 1990 to 1996. Since 1999, he has been
teaching at the post-graduate program of Endodontics of Florida Southeastern University NOVA. He served as President of
the French Endodontic Society from 1998 to 2000. Dr. Chochet has made numerous international presentations on
endodontics, traumatology and endodontic surgery.

David Kelliny, DDS (USA)
Dr. Kelliny earned his BDS degree from Cairo University in 1992, DDS degree from USC School of Dentistry in 1998, and a
certificate in Endodontics from USC in 2001. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Endodontics at the Division of
Surgical, Therapeutic and Bioengineering Sciences at the USC School of Dentistry. Since 2002, Dr. Kelliny has been actively
engaged in mentoring and lecturing on various aspects of Endodontics with special emphasis on surgical Endodontics. He
maintains 2 private practices limited to Endodontics serving the South Bay and West Los Angeles. He has been integrating
dental implants into his private practice since 2003. Dr. Kelliny is a member of the AAE, CDA, ADA and the International
Congress of Implantology.

Marcela Fridland, DDS (ARGENTINA)
Dr. Fridland received her DDS degree from the University of Rosario, Argentina in 1994, a certificate in Endodontics in1999
and a PhD degree in 2005. She held a teaching position in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Rosario
between 1986-1990. Since 1990, she has been teaching in the post-graduate endodontic programs at the University of
Rosario and the University of Buenos Aires. Dr. Fridland is an active member of the Argentinian Dental Association and an
associate member of the American Association of Endodontists. She lectures frequently both nationally and internationally
and has served on the editorial board of various journals. Dr. Fridland maintains a private practice limited to endodontics in
Rosario, Argentina.
