NORTHSIDE HOSPITAL-FORSYTH WOMEN’S CENTER CELEBRATES FIRST 5 YEARS It’s hard to believe that it’s already been five years since Northside Hospital-Forsyth opened its longawaited Women’s Center, bringing maternity and newborn services closer to home for the Forsyth community. In that time, the Center’s growth has been exceptional, far surpassing all projections. More than 10,200 babies have been born in the Women’s Center since it opened Aug. 6, 2008. States. The hospital has been recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for providing “An Outstanding Maternity Experience” for four consecutive years and has ranked No. 1 by Atlanta consumers for Maternity/OB and Women’s/GYN Services for 16 years. It’s this same expertise and compassion that provides comprehensive maternity and newborn care at Northside Hospital- Forsyth. In fact, Northside Hospital-Forsyth already has had to expand the Women’s Center to accommodate the growth. In 2011, the hospital added beds to the Center’s Level II Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit. In 2012, additional patient care areas were opened. This year, Northside is building an adjacent, fourstory, 100,000-square-foot medical office building on the Cumming campus, which will house a variety of physician specialties and practices to support the Women’s Center volume. The expertise and reputation of Northside Hospital’s maternity and newborn services, as well as the growth in Forsyth and surrounding communities, can be attributed to the success of the Women’s Center at Northside Hospital-Forsyth. The Leader in Maternity & Newborn Care Northside Hospital is recognized as one of the best maternity and newborn hospitals in the country. More babies are born at the hospital’s Atlanta campus each year than at any other single hospital in the United “We are proud of the accomplishments that Northside in Atlanta has achieved and are excited to keep that momentum going at Northside Hospital-Forsyth,” said Melissa Sugg, RN, manager of the Women’s Center. Forsyth County is the fastest growing county in Georgia. In 2007, the year before Northside opened the Women’s Center in Forsyth County, more than 1,600 babies were born to Forsyth residents at Northside’s Atlanta campus. In its first year of operation, the Women’s Center at Northside Hospital-Forsyth saw more than 1,700 babies and, according to Sugg, that number has been on the rise ever since. “We delivered more than 2,400 babies in Forsyth in 2012,” said Sugg. “We’ve also increased our staff to keep up with our growth; we’ve added more than 70 nurses, techs and secretaries since we opened.” In addition to having an expert staff and state-of-theart maternity facilities, Northside Hospital-Forsyth’s program provides mothers a full spectrum of care, from 26 CountyLine | August 2013 | www.CountyLineMagazine.net
conception to birth and beyond. A team approach utilizes the expertise of obstetricians and gynecologists, certified nurse midwives, neonatologists, pediatricians, nurses, lactation consultants, educators and other health care professionals and ensures that mothers and babies get the individualized special care they deserve. Helping You Get Ready for “The Big Day” “We understand that this is an exciting and anxious time for our families,” said Sugg. “They are on a very emotional and physical journey and we want to be there for them every step along the way.” To help families on that journey, Northside Hospital has developed a comprehensive offering of education classes and childbirth preparation resources, from tours of the Women’s Center and daddy boot camp to baby sign language and online breastfeeding support. Northside believes that education is essential. The hospital’s maternity classes are designed to be convenient, instructive and focused on helping expectant parents have the most profound and satisfying pregnancy and delivery possible. There’s even a weekly Mommy and Me group that provides ongoing breastfeeding support to new moms and an opportunity for them to interact with other moms in the area. Many classes are available in Forsyth. Other locations include Atlanta, Alpharetta and Canton. Certified educators help parents choose the right classes and develop a personalized plan based on their specific needs before, during and after delivery.
