From the Publisher Kirk Franz was 37 years old and enjoying life with his wife, Shannon, and their three daughters, when he was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease. His only chance to survive was a liver transplant. It was then that Kirk realized that organ donations are truly a gift of life. I want to thank Kirk and Shannon for sharing their story. It was such a pleasure to meet and work with them and their lovely daughters, who are enjoying their life together because Kirk was the recipient of a liver transplant. I know you will find Kirk’s story both interesting and informative. The excellent quality of life in Johns Creek is getting even better because of Johns Creek Advantage. Be sure to read about this initiative that will achieve business and job growth in Johns Creek over the next five years. Thank you to Neil Stevens and Craig McCoy, who are working with local businesses, community leaders and public officials to raise the funds that will drive JCA to reach its goals. J. Wayne Baughman is a familiar face to many in Johns Creek, but you’ll find out how and why he became the “Maestro of Johns Creek” when you read this editorial. The DECA chapter at South Forsyth High School (SFHS) was recently selected by DECA headquarters to make a video that will be distributed to other schools to promote DECA chapters and membership. A first for the DECA organization, the SFHS chapter has, once again, been recognized for its incredible accomplishments. Thank you, Debra Moore, for the invaluable marketing experience you provide the DECA members at South! John Rogers was one of the first settlers of the land that is now known as Johns Creek. A pioneer and an ambitious business man, John Rogers made contributions to our community that still remain today. Local history-lovers, this is a History Made Easy you won’t want to miss!
