anti-access
Those actions and capabilities, usually long-range, designed to prevent an opposing force from
entering an operational area (Joint Operational Access Concept).
area denial
Those actions and capabilities, usually of shorter range, designed to limit an opposing force’s
freedom of action within an operational area (Joint Operational Access Concept).
capability
Ability to achieve a desired effect under specified standards and conditions through a
combination of means and ways across DOTMLPF to perform a set of tasks to execute a
specified course of action (DODD 7045.20).
conventional forces
Those forces capable of conducting operations using nonnuclear weapons and forces other than
designated special operations forces (Joint Publication 3-05).
globally integrated operations
The concept for how the Joint Force prepares for the security environment it will face (Capstone
Concept for Joint Operations).
human dimension
The cognitive, physical, and social components of Soldier, Army Civilians, leader, and
organizational development and performance essential to raise, prepare, and employ the Army
in unified land operations (TP 525-3-7).
interoperability
The ability to operate in synergy in the execution of assigned tasks (Joint Publication 3-0); the
condition achieved among communications-electronics systems or items of communicationselectronics
equipment when information or services can be exchanged directly and satisfactorily
between them and/or their users (Joint Publication 6-0).
