Rhyl FC launch new kit
- and new brand
Rhyl FC launced their new home kit designed and supplied by FBT, modelled below by Belle Vue Babe
Leanne Boyd, from Rhuddlan.
The white shirt, black shorts and black socks constitute the only tailor made kit in the Welsh Premier League
this season.
On the back of the collar, the distinctive skull and crossbones harks back to the 1870s and Rhyl Skull and
Crossbones, the forerunners of our modern day Lilywhites.
The club's partnership with FBT sees them able to sell not just the replica home, away, training and leisure
wear but team designs throughout the FBT range to clubs all over the country.
"Our plans over the next three years involve recruiting at least 20 semi-pro and pro clubs to fly the FBT
banner," said FBT Europe director Mike Hegarty. "However successful we are in this and in supplying the
junior clubs at grass roots level, by definition Rhyl FC will now be our first and therefore our most precious
friend. We plan to develop a range of mutually beneficial projects over the coming months."
Mike Jones, Rhyl FC managing director, said: "It's really exciting it's out because I have been involved in the
development of this kit since March.
"It's superb. I can't wait to see what the fans make of it. We have listened to the supporters and I am sure we
will do well on club shop sales. It's also the first time we have sold training gear.
"We want to run a professional club and we look up to the clubs across the border and the way they run their
operations. We want to do everything all the big clubs, like Manchester City, Everton and Liverpool do, in
how they cater for their fans.
"I can’t wait to reveal our new away kit too, before the start of the new season. This adds to all the positive
things happening at Rhyl FC and there's lots more in the pipeline I can assure you."
The new kit will get its first run out in the friendly against Manchester City at Belle Vue on Saturday 10
August; kick-off 3pm.
ABERYSTWYTH TOWN
www.atfc.org.uk
Aberystwyth Town FC is delighted to learn that Black and Greens Academy product Gwion Edwards can add two
appearances in the UEFA Europa League to his CV.
The young winger from Lampeter is one year into a three year contract with Swansea City, but has been with
Scottish Premier League outfit St Johnstone on loan since January 2013. Gwion made seven appearances for the
Perth-based Saints last season, helping them to a third placed finish, which ensured European Qualification.
Twenty year old Gwion came on a substitute in both of the Saints' Europa League ties against Rosenborg, which
saw the Scottish side record a historic 2-1 aggregate win over the Norwegian giants. He was again on the bench in
Belarus last night as St Johnstone beat Minsk 1-0, leaving Gwion and the Saints three matches from a place in the
Europa League.
Club Academy Director Russell Hughes-Pickering said "We are all really delighted for Gwion: his success is a
great example for all the players in our Academy system."
Leading scorer at Airbus last season, Wayne Riley is expected leave the Wingmakers to join Hednesford Town
after being released by mutual consent, writes the club website.
Riley was a non-contract player due to compensation being sought from his previous club Northwich Victoria
and, despite being offered a trial by Wrexham, it is expected he will join the Pitmen, who have served seven days'
notice of approach.
"Any club signing Riley on a contract can expect a call from Northwich Vics' owner Jim Rushe for compensation
from the midfielder's time there," says Airbus chief operating officer Stewart Roberts.
"We wish Wayne all the best wherever he ends up and hope that the compensation due to Northwich will not
hamper him or his new employer too much.
"He's a smashing lad who has done well in his season at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
A consistent goal scorer with the Vics, Riley followed his former manager Andy Preece to the Airfield last July
and scored 12 goals from his 29 (+2) Welsh Premier appearances.
He also appeared in both legs of the club's Europa League ties with FK Ventspils..
BALA TOWN
www.balatownfc.co.uk
On Tuesday evening Town travelled to Rivacre Park to face Conference North outfit Vauxhall Motors.
It was the home side who started strongest especially for the first 15 minutes as early on they pressured the Bala
defence.
Mark Jones´ shot from range on 10 minutes went wide of the far post before Lewis Codling sent his shot from 25
yards over the bar minutes later.
The deadlock was broken on 17 minutes as Codling released a powerful 30 yard shot which went in off the far
post to give Town the lead and score the goal of preseason so far!
The goal settled the Lakesiders and Bala went on to dominate.
Connolly´s shot from 25 yards went over the bar on the half hour mark. Down the other end our keeper pulled off
a great save to deny the Motormen and keep it 0-1 at halftime.
Bala came out of the blocks well in the 2nd half and carried on where they left off before the break.
Stef Edwards curled his shot from the edge of the box inches wide of the post and then Trialist D turned the
defender but his chance went wide. Kenny Lunt was running the Town midfield and substitute Ben Collins was
delivering quality crosses from the left to keep pressurising the Vauxhall defence.
It should´ve been 2 or 3-0 to the Lakesiders with the chances we had but a great result for the lads again.
BANGOR CITY
Jamie Brewerton suffered a career-threatening injury in the match against Burscough on Saturday.
The prognosis on Jamie’s injury is not good. It is a recurrence of the injury that James suffered at The
New Saints last season, whereby the surgeon suggested that he either continued to play and the injury
could get worse or he had an operation which would have sidelined him for up to nine months. James
decided to continue to play, however, after today's injury it seems it is a career threatening injury.
We hope that it is not as bad as first thought, as club captain he is an inspirational leader who wears his
heart on his sleeve, and has been one of the most consistent defenders that the club has had in its time in
the WPL.
gap CONNAH’S QUAY
www.the-nomads.co.uk
gap Connah's Quay have signed Paul Mooney.
Paul's performances for Rhyl in the 2010-11 Cymru Alliance caught the eye of Football League scouts
and he spent a period on trial with Crewe Alexandra before joining Swindon Town. Last season he
featured for Northwich Vics. 22 year old Paul is a strong, hard driving midfielder who can play in
Central Defence of as a full back. The Nomads are "delighted to welcome him to Deeside"
A Mike Hayes double and a first half strike from Simon Everall saw The Nomads beat Wrexham 3-1 in
this pre-season friendly.
Wrexham brought a squad which featured a number of players who last season picked up the FA Trophy
at Wembley, however The Nomads' free-flowing football on a great surface was too much for them to
handle.
Overall, a fantastic result for The Nomads in front of a brilliant crowd. The new kit looked great and
looked as though the lads had been wearing it all their life - the new signings appear to have settled in
very well following the recent trip to Yorkshire and we look forward to our next home game, welcoming
Rhys Healey back to Deeside next Tuesday as Cardiff City make the trip north.
Mark McGregor commented following the game to say;
"The lads thoroughly enjoyed the game, it was free flowing stuff and a great test against a full time team
- our fitness levels are really good at the moment and we look strong in all areas.
While it is pre-season and I will not get carried away with a defeat or a win, the lads set themselves a
standard with this win. It was nice to see Si [Everall] and [Mike] Hayes on scoresheet again, with good
performances all over the park.
completed his move from AFC Telford United to Latham Park.
PORT TALBOT TOWN
www.porttalbottown.co.uk
A CARDIFF City side packed with several first-team players edged past Port Talbot Town 2-1, in a closely
contested encounter at a well-attended GenQuip Stadium on Wednesday. (Writes Matthew Burgess).
Gethin Jones gave his former club the lead when he turned Kadeem Harris’ low cross into his own net midway
through the opening period.
Ten minutes into the second-half, Lee Surman rose highest in the packed goalmouth to meet Sacha Walters’
corner, to head in past the despairing Dave Richards and peg the Premier League newcomers back.
The visitors quickly restored their lead, when five minutes later, Joe Ralls found himself through on goal, to round
Steven Hall, and apply an easy finish.
With much of the pre-match build-up focussing on Scott Young facing his former side for the first time, the Port
Talbot manager was pleased to see his players come through a stern test against quality opposition.
“It’s not about me, to be fair, obviously I enjoyed it; Kenny Cooper and Dick Bate are big friends of mine and I’d like
to thank Malky for letting this happen and we got a decent crowd,” he said.
“But for the players, to play against Premier League stars is a great challenge for them and one they came out with a lot
of credit with.”
Both teams showed their attacking attentions from the off in front of a 850 crowd, with David Brooks and Simon
Lappin shooting wide for either side early on.
With a host of senior players involved for Cardiff, including Nicky Maynard, Tommy Smith, Joe Mason, Craig
Conway, Kevin McNaughton and Matt Connolly, Port Talbot did well to keep a firm foothold in the game, with only
Gethin Jones’ own goal separating the two sides.
Indeed, the Steelmen were allowed plenty of possession but had largely failed to trouble the Cardiff defence until
young Miles John combined well with Brooks, who forced the outstretched Richards to parry the ball to safety, as the
first-half drew to a close.
“We came in at half-time and we were really positive about what we had done when we were without possession,” said
Young. “I was slightly disappointed about what we did when in possession, as I thought we were a little bit negative
and we could’ve played a little bit more positively.”
SCOTT Young has added two more players to his squad with Kerry Nicholas and Josh Bell both signing for the club.
Goalkeeper Kerry Nicholas joins having played for Carmarthen Town last season, whilst former Barry Town forward
Josh Bell arrives from Bridgend Town.
Both players have featured regularly for the club in pre-season and signed after Wednesday’s match against Cardiff
City, along with Adam Wright and Sacha Walters, who’ve also re-signed.
With the Steelmen well into their pre-season campaign, Young says he is now close to finalising his squad for the
forthcoming season, which starts on the 24th August with a visit to The New Saints, with perhaps room for one final
addition.
THE NEW SAINTS FC
www.tnsfc.co.uk
The New Saints Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of former Bayern Munich keeper
Bernard Hirmer.
Hirmer, 45, has joined the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League Champions as a first team goalkeeper
coach.
‘Bernie’ is a former Bayern Munich goalkeeper and was advised to join the Oswestry based club by his
good friend, Dietmar Hamann. The Liverpool legend knows all about The Saints after he worked with
TNS coach Carl Darlington and he told his German compatriot to join Craig Harrison’s side, "I spoke to
Didi about the move and he said yes I should join."
Hirmer also spent time with Saints winger Ryan Fraughan, during his time at Stockport County and was
eager to mention the quality of both TNS goalkeepers;
"I am very happy with the quality that Paul (Harrison) and (Chris) Mullock have. I am really looking
forward to working closely with them throughout the year and "I have signed because I want to work
with a good coaching team who want to play modern football" Hirmer added on Twitter.
Hirmer was at Wrexham to see the Saints face Legia Warsaw in the Champions League recently and he
also travelled to the Pepsi Arena for the return leg in the Polish capital
Llangefni Town drop to bottom
Former Welsh Premier League club Llangefni Town have withdrawn from the Welsh Alliance League to play at the
foot of the pyramid.
Town were the last representatives of Ynys Mon in the Welsh Premier League when they played just one season during
the 2007/08 campaign.
They have now resigned from the Welsh Alliance Division One, following the departure of management team Darren
Cartwright, Dyfed Thomas, Peter Twigg and Ricky Evans, with a host of players following the quartet out of Lon
Talwrn.
The club Board has taken the decision to resign from the directly-affiliated league with concerns that the team would
not be strong enough to compete in the Alliance.
Last season, the club had a reserve team in the Anglesey League which is Level 6, and they will maintain just that team
for the forthcoming season.
Secretary, Karen Parry Rowlands told the North Wales Chronicle, "It’s a shame but it’s one of those things. No-one on
the board is disappointed; we would rather have taken this decision now than a few games into the season.
“The support has been low over the last few years, and that’s what gives the boys the heart to carry on.”
With a healthy junior football setup producing talented players for the Anglesey League side this season, the board are
hopeful of seeing the club back to the level it once was.
Mrs Rowlands added: “We’ll see how we get on this season. The boys are feeling confident and comfortable, and the
support they’ve received over pre-season has been fantastic. We just hope that this is the start of the club again”
