Hyflux Ltd annual report 2008
Research & Development (cont’d)
Our Membrane Products and Applications
Hyflux’s in-house R&D is continuously
pushing for new membrane
applications, membrane products and
systems. Our R&D efforts have led to
the successful commercialisation of
our membrane products and systems:
Kristal Polymer Hollow Fibre
Membrane
One of the pioneer products, Kristal
polymeric hollow fibre membrane
is fully designed and developed
by Hyflux using our proprietary
membrane technology. It is used in
the treatment of aqua-based industrial
waste stream, water purification,
wastewater recycling, and seawater
desalination pretreatment.
Our flagship and award-winning
Kristal membrane has been utilised in
the ultrafiltration process in the Seletar
NEWater Plant in Singapore and will be
installed in our landmark desalination
plants in Tianjin, China and Magtaa and
Tlemcen in Algeria. With the operation
of the Magtaa plant, Kristal will be
the most widely utilised ultrafiltration
pretreatment membrane for seawater
desalination in the world.
FerroCep Stainless Steel
Tubular Membrane
The tubular cross-flow technology
and stainless steel construction
are the main reasons why Hyflux’s
FerroCep is the membrane of
choice for handling difficult industrial
streams with high viscosity and solid
contents under extreme conditions.
It is ideal for fermentation broths like
amino acids, antibiotics, vitamins
and clarification. This inert and highly
durable inorganic membrane can
withstand elevated temperatures and
pressures, concentrated solvents or
extreme pH conditions.
InoCep Ceramic Hollow
Fibre Membrane
The award-winning InoCep
membrane is able to tolerate high
temperatures and extreme pH
conditions as well as high solids
content. It is ideal for waste/
wastewater treatment and can be used
to resolve separation bottlenecks in a
wide range of industries, such as the
metal/steel mill, chemical process, food
& beverage, and biopharmaceutical
industries. The robust design of
the InoCep membrane combines
the advantages of high chemical,
mechanical and thermal resistance, as
well as the compactness and low cost
of that of polymeric hollow fibres.
PoroCep Polypropylene
Hollow Fibre Membrane
This membrane is the preferred
choice for microfiltration, where both
performance and cost are critical. It
combines higher particle retention
with higher flux, and ensures excellent
permeate quality and minimal pressure
drop, all within a small compact
design. The PoroCep membrane
offers advantages such as broad
chemical compatibility, wide pH range,
great thermal stability and mechanical
strength. The PoroCep membrane is
