NEWS RELEASESpecial Fabric in OSIM's Electro Foot-Hand MassagerEnsures Maximum Contact with Pressure PointsSingapore, 3 December 2003 – OSIM launches OSIM iSense, an electro foot-hand massager withthe world’s first micro-conductive fibre for maximum contact with one’s feet and hands, allowing more effective treatment of one’s physical ailments.“The micro-conductive fibre is the latest technology and is unique as a conductor of electricalimpulses, offering conductivity like no other,” said Mr Tan Kia Tong, OSIM’s Chief TechnologyOfficer. This is the first time that micro-conductive fibre is being used in healthcare products.Made of conductive stainless steel yarn covered in elastic nylon and acrylic, the microconductivefibre is a thin material that facilitates faster and maximum transmission to one’shands and feet, allowing higher levels of stimulation for improved health. It is also antibacterial, odourless and washable.OSIM iSense will be launched next year in OSIM’s other key markets of Hong Kong, PRC,Taiwan, Malaysia and its global franchise network of 15 countries. The initial response andfeedback from customers have been positive.OSIM iSense is light and portable, a novel way of providing therapeutic massage on the go. It isalso streamlined, weighing only about 1.8 kg. It is fashionably designed in silver, with colouredfoot and palm pads, and packed in a designer-look case.“With OSIM iSense, one can have an invigorating massage anytime, anywhere. Not only is itlight and portable, but streamlined to fit comfortably in most places,” says Ms Lee Wei Lin,Marketing Manager of OSIM.The OSIM iSense is battery-operated, which allows it to be carried anywhere, anytime. Thisfeature also allows for enhanced safety, ensuring that the voltage is kept at a safe level. Italso comes with an automatic shut-off device to conserve power when not in use. (Otherelectrical health appliances use transformers plugged directly into electrical mains, providinga direct flow of electrical current to reach one’s body).

OSIM iSense works on the principal of traditional Chinese medicine of treating the body’sessential meridian points, or the body’s energy pathways, which Chinese health expertsbelieve are housed in one’s hands and feet. The belief is that there is energy (chi or qi),flowing through one’s body. This energy is believed to flow along meridians. If the flow of chiis blocked or unbalanced at any point on a pathway, theoretically it may result in illness. To stimulate energy flow along the body's energy pathways, traditional Chinese acupuncture isusually is applied by inserting very thin needles into the skin at the body’s meridian points.OSIM iSense acts as an alternative form of acupuncture, providing mild electric current tostimulate energy flow along these meridians, thus reaching key acupressure points. (Othertypes of acupuncture may use heat or pressure to stimulate energy flow along thesemeridians).“As the hands and soles of feet are areas which are the farthest from the heart, bloodcirculation in these body parts tends to be the worst,” observes Mr Hideo Matsuura, Japaneserenowned massage and acupuncture practitioner with 30 years’ experience. He also observedthat the use of massage and acupuncture treatment to stimulate body areas has a significanteffect on the treatment of illnesses. Mr Matsuura helped design the acupressure-point sensortechnology of the OSIM iMedic chair launched in 2002.By reaching the less stimulated and more neglected extremities of one’s body, the followingphysical benefits can be felt:A. Invigorated energy level and improved vitality - stimulated key acupressure points likeRokyu (or “laogong”), located in the centre of the palm; and Yusen (or “Yongquan”),located on the soles of the feet. Stimulating these two areas will invigorate andrestore one’s energy level and vitality.B. Improved poor blood circulation - consistent stimulation of nerves on the palms canhelp reduce toxicity resulting from food allergies, and stabilize blood circulation toalleviate related ailments like high/low blood pressure, headaches and thrombosis(blood vessel blockage).C. Regulate metabolism rate and help to alleviate and prevent ailments like strainedmuscles and aching joints; alleviate urinary problems and constipation; rheumatism;insomnia; headaches and giddy spells; alleviate symptoms of gout and arthritis; and isa beneficial form of physiotherapy for those suffering from Hemiplegia (total paralysisof the arm and leg on one side of the body, usually the result of a stroke).

“With an increasing number of people working long hours at their desks, with no time forproper exercise, there is a critical need to improve one’s blood circulation, especially to itsfarthest points - the feet and hands,” Ms Lee adds.“OSIM iSense is compact and light enough to bring along on travels eg long-distance planejourneys. Having one’s feet and hands massaged during a long flight can increase bloodcirculation greatly, and help alleviate discomfort and ailments which have been known toresult from insufficient movement or exercise, like DVT (deep vein thrombosis),” she added.Oriental Therapy believes that the external influences can cause weak constitution in thebody, resulting in various illnesses. These influences are regarded as poison (‘doku’ inJapanese). OSIM iSense stimulates the meridian points relating to the acupressure pointswhich aid in alleviating the following ailments:- Shokudoku – Food allergies and poisoning resulting from imbibing food and beveragesincompatible to one’s system.- Ketsudoku – Ailments resulting from poor blood circulation, like high or low bloodpressure, headaches, thrombosis (blood vessel blockage).- Suidoku – Edema swelling or water retention, which result from the slowing down ofone’s metabolism.Designed to suit a wide range of therapeutic needs. One can select from five modes ofmassage: tapping; alternating tapping; kneading; pressing and vibrating. Alternatively, theSequence mode will enable one to experience all five massage modes in one session.About OSIM International LtdSGX mainboard-listed OSIM is a global leader in healthy lifestyle products.
