OSIM iSense works on the principal of traditional Chinese medicine of treating the body’sessential meridian points, or the body’s energy pathways, which Chinese health expertsbelieve are housed in one’s hands and feet. The belief is that there is energy (chi or qi),flowing through one’s body. This energy is believed to flow along meridians. If the flow of chiis blocked or unbalanced at any point on a pathway, theoretically it may result in illness. To stimulate energy flow along the body's energy pathways, traditional Chinese acupuncture isusually is applied by inserting very thin needles into the skin at the body’s meridian points.OSIM iSense acts as an alternative form of acupuncture, providing mild electric current tostimulate energy flow along these meridians, thus reaching key acupressure points. (Othertypes of acupuncture may use heat or pressure to stimulate energy flow along thesemeridians).“As the hands and soles of feet are areas which are the farthest from the heart, bloodcirculation in these body parts tends to be the worst,” observes Mr Hideo Matsuura, Japaneserenowned massage and acupuncture practitioner with 30 years’ experience. He also observedthat the use of massage and acupuncture treatment to stimulate body areas has a significanteffect on the treatment of illnesses. Mr Matsuura helped design the acupressure-point sensortechnology of the OSIM iMedic chair launched in 2002.By reaching the less stimulated and more neglected extremities of one’s body, the followingphysical benefits can be felt:A. Invigorated energy level and improved vitality - stimulated key acupressure points likeRokyu (or “laogong”), located in the centre of the palm; and Yusen (or “Yongquan”),located on the soles of the feet. Stimulating these two areas will invigorate andrestore one’s energy level and vitality.B. Improved poor blood circulation - consistent stimulation of nerves on the palms canhelp reduce toxicity resulting from food allergies, and stabilize blood circulation toalleviate related ailments like high/low blood pressure, headaches and thrombosis(blood vessel blockage).C. Regulate metabolism rate and help to alleviate and prevent ailments like strainedmuscles and aching joints; alleviate urinary problems and constipation; rheumatism;insomnia; headaches and giddy spells; alleviate symptoms of gout and arthritis; and isa beneficial form of physiotherapy for those suffering from Hemiplegia (total paralysisof the arm and leg on one side of the body, usually the result of a stroke).
