The Texas Municipal Human Resources Association (TMHRA) is an affiliate
of the Texas Municipal League.

relatively new to the field, or are you simply interested in a refresher
on particular subjects?
If you answered “yes” to one of those questions, the Nuts and Bolts Seminar is just for you! You’ll receive plenty
of practical information that will help you implement and maintain successful human resources programs in your
organization. Specialists in several areas of human resources management will present dynamic, interactive
sessions where you can ask questions, have discussions with your peers, and learn together.
Three sessions of “Nuts and Bolts of HR in the Public Sector” will be held around the state. Presenters will be
listed in the final agenda issued at each location.

Health Care Reform: Are You Ready?
This session will provide a summary overview of health care reform, requirements for 2014 and
beyond, and a checklist of items to ensure your organization is compliant moving forward to meet
deadlines, notices, and fee requirements.
Oh! The Tangled Web We Weave: Managing Employee Leave (ADA, FMLA)
Managing employee leave can be complicated and cumbersome when the leave falls into several
legal categories that overlap one another. Speakers will guide you through successful management
of those claims to ensure you are compliant with all the laws that could be impacted.
Compensation: Management and Maintenance of Pay Systems in Challenging Times
This session will discuss tips and best practices for aligning your compensation strategy with your
business needs during these challenging times as we recover from the recession.

Employee Investigations: Best Practices
Investigations can be a nightmare, but this unique session will explore the intricacies of conducting
them. Processes and techniques to help conduct a fair and credible investigation will be explained.
To Pay or Not To Pay…That Is the Question: FLSA in the Public Sector
This session will walk you through the basics of FLSA in the public sector—ensuring your policies,
practices, and postings are compliant—as well as problematic areas most often faced by entities.

Register by July 17 to receive the discounted early registration fee of $50 (TMHRA members) and $125 (non-members).
For registrations received after July 17, the registration fee is $175 (for both members and non-members). In order to qualify
for the TMHRA member rate, you must have joined TMHRA prior to July 1.
Lewisville – September 13
Register by August 28 to receive the discounted early registration fee of $50 (TMHRA members) and $125 (non-members).
For registrations received after August 28, the registration fee is $175 (for both members and non-members). In order to qualify
for the TMHRA member rate, you must have joined TMHRA prior to September 1.
Abilene – September 18
Register by September 4 to receive the discounted early registration fee of $50 (TMHRA members) and $125 (non-members).
For registrations received after September 4, the registration fee is $175 (for both members and non-members). In order to
qualify for the TMHRA member rate, you must have joined TMHRA prior to September 1.
CANCELLATION AND SUBSTITUTION POLICY
If you are registered and cannot attend, we encourage you to send a substitute. If you cannot send a substitute, a $45 cancellation
fee will be assessed if written cancellation is emailed to acct@tml.org by cutoff dates (Pearland: July 17; Lewisville: August 28;
and Abilene: September 4). No refunds will be honored after these respective dates.
