Terbutaline
• Class:
– Bronchodilator, uterine smooth muscle relaxant
• Indications:
–Asthma
– Control of pre-term labor
• Contraindications:
– Hypersensitivity
• Interactions:
– Additive effects with other adrenergics
– Β-adrenergic blockers may negate
Terbutaline continued…
• Administration:
– Pre-term labor:
• 10 µg/min
– Increase every 10 minutes until contractions stop.
– Max dose is 80 µg/min.
– Asthma
• MDI or SVN (1-3 mg/3 ml NS)
• SQ .25 mg
– Give q 15-30 minutes
– Max .5 mg in 4 hours

Agents
NBA – Non-Depolarizing
• Indications:
– Facilitation of mechanical ventilation
• Mechanism of action:
– Act by blocking the binding of ACh to its
receptors.
– Directly block the inotropic activity of ACh
receptors.
Non-Depolarizing

• Interaction:
– Intensity and duration of paralysis may be
prolonged by pre-treatment with:
• Succinylcholine
• Lidocainei
• Quinidine
• Procainamide
• Β-adrenergic blocking agents
• KCL losing diuretics
• Magnesium

• Administration
– Depends on the specific drug used.
• Classified as short, intermediate, and long acting.
– They may have a similar onset of action.
– The duration of effectiveness ect e ess will vary.
– Use an infusion pump!
