Terbutaline<br />
• Class:<br />
– Bronchodilator, uterine smooth muscle relaxant<br />
• Indications:<br />
–Asthma<br />
– Control of pre-term labor<br />
• Contraindications:<br />
– Hypersensitivity<br />
• Interactions:<br />
– Additive effects with other adrenergics<br />
– Β-adrenergic blockers may negate<br />

• Administration:<br />
– Pre-term labor:<br />
• 10 µg/min<br />
– Increase every 10 minutes until contractions stop.<br />
– Max dose is 80 µg/min.<br />
– Asthma<br />
• MDI or SVN (1-3 mg/3 ml NS)<br />
• SQ .25 mg<br />
– Give q 15-30 minutes<br />
– Max .5 mg in 4 hours<br />

• Indications:<br />
– Facilitation of mechanical ventilation<br />
• Mechanism of action:<br />
– Act by blocking the binding of ACh to its<br />
receptors.<br />
– Directly block the inotropic activity of ACh<br />
receptors.<br />

– Intensity and duration of paralysis may be<br />
prolonged by pre-treatment with:<br />
• Succinylcholine<br />
• Lidocainei<br />

• KCL losing diuretics<br />
• Magnesium<br />

• Classified as short, intermediate, and long acting.<br />
– They may have a similar onset of action.<br />
