Conference on IT & ITes<br />

28-29 January, New Delhi<br />

A conference on ‘IT & ITes: Evolving Business Models<br />

for Sustained Growth’ held in partnership with Punjab<br />

Infotech, apprised evolving SMEs about how IT and ITes<br />

services can streamline their business operations.<br />

The event marked the release of the <strong>CII</strong>-PwC Report on<br />

Indian IT & ITeS Industry – ‘Evolving Business Models<br />

for Sustained Growth’. The report points out that the<br />

need of the hour is increased agility and differentiation.<br />

End-to-End offerings would dominate the industry in the<br />

years to come.<br />

Mr Shankar Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, DIT, Union<br />

Ministry of Communications & Information Technology,<br />

stressed the benefits of IT and ITes for the common<br />

man, and spoke about India’s national E – Governance<br />

Plan (NEGP), which delivers all kind of public services<br />

through ICT.<br />

Goods & Service Tax (GST)<br />

Mr P Muthusamy, Additional Commissioner, Customs,<br />

Central Excise & Service Tax, addressed issues pertaining<br />

to the policy and procedures of GST in Coimbatore.<br />

The awareness building seminar on GST in Hubli<br />

was addressed by Mr Amitesh Bharat Shetty, Joint<br />

Commissioner Central Excise, Customs and Service<br />

Tax, Belgaum Commissionerate, and Mr Keyur Shah,<br />

Manager, BMR Advisors.<br />

In Mysore, the session helped members understand<br />

the proposed GST framework, the roll-out plan and<br />

the impact on various business sectors. The seminar<br />

featured a panel discussion on ‘Impact of GST on<br />

Business Sectors: services, Manufacturing, Real Estate<br />

an Infrastructure.’<br />

Doing Business with UAE<br />

The HFZ has SME zones that offer single window<br />

clearance, 100% ownership, tax exemption, repartition<br />

of profits and capital and infrastructure including ports<br />

exclusively for maritime, timberland, oil and gas, steel,<br />

petrochemical, perfume and construction, he said.<br />

Advanced Technologies in Security Systems<br />

29 January, Chennai<br />

The conference deliberated on concrete steps to be<br />

taken through the public-private model to address<br />

security related issues. Increased investments in R&D,<br />

expanding the security network both at the private<br />

and government level, besides adoption of advanced<br />

technologies were some of the key recommendations<br />

made at the conference.<br />

Train the Trainers Programme<br />

27 January – 1 <strong>February</strong>, Salem & Pudukottai<br />

The programme was organized in partnership with the<br />

South India AIDS Action Program (SIAAP) to train 130<br />

master trainers on Work Skills, who would, in turn, train<br />

5005 youth from Below the Poverty Line families from<br />

13 districts across Tamil Nadu. Post training, forward<br />

linkages would be facilitated. The programme trained<br />

26 trainers in Salem and 34 in Pudukottai.<br />

The seminar reviewed and analyzed<br />
