21ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME • AUGUST 25, 2013
“To Seek Christ, Know Christ, and Become Christ,
Each One for the Sake of All.”
Message from Our Pastor
At times, we need to find that special,
quiet place for personal prayer. For
your convenience, I wish to remind you
that the Parish Chapel is open for your
private prayer, your recitation of the
rosary, etc., daily, Monday through
Friday.
Since the Blessed Sacrament is
reserved in the tabernacle, what a
beautiful prayer space to spend some
time in the company of the risen Lord.
A periodic visit to the Blessed
Sacrament could be just that special
formula to help you dedicate the
routine and challenges of any day to
the Lord.
With the many tensions that exist in
life today: whether it be the ongoing
reality of conflicts such as those that
exist in the Middle East, extreme
weather conditions, problems
associated with the global and local
economies, worries about children and
grandchildren as they grow up, worries
about passing on our heritage and
identity as followers of Jesus Christ in
the Catholic Church, concerns about
health issues and the aging process, or
pressures that are associated with
personal budgeting and finances, and
the list could go on and on….
Well, some time spent in prayer in
the presence of the Blessed Sacrament
can help bring peace of mind and the
strength to cope. It can make all the
difference!
Wishing you the peace that comes
with being a believer in Jesus Christ,
Father David H. Reith

“For behold, some are last who will be first and some are first
who will be last.” ~Luke 13:30
Our standards in our society are so different from God’s standards. We often
rate or rank people by what they have, how
powerful they are, or how successful they are.
Jesus reminds us that God will not judge us by
the same earthly standards.
This scripture reminds me of two powerful
exercises in my life that have helped me to take
stock in the choices I make and how I treat
people every day.
As a catechist for 9th grade LFF, we had an
exercise to write our own eulogy. The point was to reflect on what we would be
remembered for. The conversation would then turn to sharing how we would
like to be remembered and knowing that Jesus is our source of strength and our
role model.
The other exercise consisted of coffee once a week with a co-worker. Our
conversation always started with, “Well, Amy, if you were to die today, would it
be ok?” The purpose of the question is to talk through and hold each other
accountable for any amends that had to be made, were there people I needed to
tell that I love them, have I reached out to others to make them feel good or
smile; in other words were we building the kingdom of God?
Take a step back from the business in your life, grab a loved one or a friend,
and determine what course corrections you might need to make.
~ Amy Whittenberger
Save The Date!
The Called and Gifted Workshop
will be held on Friday, November 15,
7:00 pm – 9:30 pm and Saturday,
November 16, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm,
here at St. Dominic Catholic Parish.
This workshop will kick-start the
three-part discernment process to
help ordinary lay Catholics discern
their charisms.
Charisms, or spiritual gifts, are
special abilities given to all baptized
Christians by the Holy Spirit to give
them the power both to represent
Christ and to be a channel of God’s
goodness for people.
What Is An Archdiocesan Synod?
Archbishop Listecki recently announced the archdiocese will be
holding a Synod June 7-8, 2014. What appears below is part of a
series of frequently asked questions about the Synod. More
information on the Synod can be found on www.archmil.org.
A Synod, simply put, is an assembly where the faithful deliberate
on the pastoral needs of the diocese. A diocesan synod is called by
the bishop, where he gathers together ordained and lay leaders
from throughout the diocese.
The Archdiocese of Milwaukee Synod will bring together people from the
entire Catholic community to discuss archdiocesan and parish pastoral priorities
for the Church of southeastern Wisconsin. The Synod and the sessions leading
up to it should be a wonderful and exciting spirit-led process that will give the
archdiocese a clearer direction of priorities for the next 10 years.
“A Wedding Is A Day, A Marriage Is A Lifetime”
The Nazareth Project of the John Paul II Center – Archdiocese of
Milwaukee, offers many opportunities for Engaged Couples as they
collaboration with Catholic Engaged Encounter to offer weekend retreats.
The next Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend retreat is September 20-22,
2013 at Schoenstatt Retreat Center. More information and registration can be
September 14, 2013 3:00 pm
On Saturday, September 14, pro-life Americans will honor the memory of the
more than 50 million unborn victims of abortion during the National Day of
Remembrance for Aborted Children. Join Special Guests: Bishop Fabian
Bruskewitz, (retired bishop of Lincoln—former pastor of St. Bernard’s Parish in
Wauwatosa), Bishop Donald Hying (auxiliary bishop of Milwaukee), Peggy
Hamill (Pro-Life Wisconsin), Fr. William Kurz, S.J., (Marquette University) and
Rev. Mark Knappe (Gloria Dei Lutheran Church). There are several graves of
aborted babies at Holy Cross Cemetery. The largest grave contains the bodies of
1200 babies killed by abortion. These babies were found in 1988 on a loading
dock of the Vital Med pathology lab in Northbrook, IL, left out for the trash. They
were retrieved by Citizens for a Pro-Life Society (www.prolifesociey.com) and
buried September 10, 1988. The National Day of Remembrance, will be the 25th
anniversary of the burial of the Vital Med babies. For more information on this
event, visit www.abortionmemorials.com.
Cub Scout Pack #119 Registration and New Family
Information Night
St. Dominic Cub Scout Pack #119 is recruiting boys entering
grades 1 through 5 to join Cub Scouts.
Throughout the year, Scouts participate in a variety of fun,
educational activities. These teach the boys about citizenship,
leadership and service and help them develop self-esteem,
respect for others and strength of character.
Cub Scouts is fun, but it’s Fun with a Purpose. As you watch
your son participate in Cub Scout activities - whether it’s racing a
Pinewood Derby car, planning a home fire drill, exploring a submarine or sitting
around a campfire - you’ll appreciate the lifelong skills he’s learning.
On Tuesday September 3, at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria, we will have
a new scout Registration and Information night. This meeting is for both those
families that already signed up in June and any new families that would like to
join our dynamic Pack. Please contact Mike Bates, Pack #119 Committee Chair,
at mwbates2000@hotmail.com or Robert Kowalik, Cubmaster at
r.kowalik@yahoo.com with any questions.
