2013-2014 <strong>Scholarship</strong> Application for the Class of 2017<br />
This <strong>Robert</strong> <strong>Bruce</strong> <strong>Told</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> will be awarded to an incoming student who grew up and<br />
graduated from high school in a rural community. Preference will be given to applicants who<br />
plan to return to a rural community to practice medicine. The recipient will receive a tuition<br />
waiver of $10,000 ($5,000 per semester) and the award is renewable for three additional years.<br />
This scholarship was established in memory of <strong>Robert</strong> <strong>Bruce</strong> <strong>Told</strong> who passed away in 2011.<br />
Mr. <strong>Told</strong> was the beloved son of Mollie and Thomas <strong>Told</strong>, DO, Assistant Dean of Clinical<br />
Education and long time champion of rural health care.<br />
Each scholarship applicant must submit a personal essay describing his or her professional<br />
goals and specifically explaining how he or she meets the criteria of this scholarship.<br />
In addition, applicants must submit at least one (1) letter of recommendation from an individual<br />
who can attest to your need and suitableness for a scholarship. Letters of recommendation<br />
cannot be accepted from immediate family members.<br />
If you wish to apply for a <strong>Robert</strong> <strong>Bruce</strong> <strong>Told</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong>, please complete this application and<br />
submit it along with the required personal essay and letter of recommendation to the Office of<br />
Student Financial Services no later than June 1, 2013. Incomplete applications or applications<br />
received after June 1 will not be eligible for scholarship consideration. All scholarship recipients<br />
will be announced by July 1, 2013.<br />

<strong>Scholarship</strong> Terms and Conditions:<br />
1. Applicants must meet all criteria for admission to RVUCOM and either be an enrolled<br />
student in good standing or have been offered admission to the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
2. All tuition deposits must be made prior to the submission of your scholarship application.
3. <strong>Scholarship</strong> applicants must submit an essay which details their professional goals and<br />
specifically explains how they meet the criteria of the scholarship. Essays may include<br />
information about how the student plans to make a contribution to the medical profession<br />
and the public health and welfare.<br />
4. Each applicant must submit at least one (1) letter of recommendation from an individual<br />
who can attest to their need and suitableness for the award. Letters of recommendation<br />
from immediate family members cannot be accepted.<br />
5. The applicant’s admission information previously submitted (including academic record,<br />
letters of recommendation, and any other documentation) may also be considered when<br />
awarding a scholarship.<br />
6. Applicants agree to provide any other information or documentation, if requested by the<br />
<strong>Scholarship</strong> Committee.<br />
7. The applicants will be screened by a <strong>Scholarship</strong> Committee of faculty and<br />
administration, and the recipients will be announced by the Chief Academic Officer by<br />
July 1, 2012.<br />
8. If a recipient wishes to apply for a renewal of their scholarship, they must submit an<br />
annual report to the <strong>Scholarship</strong> Committee that details their progress and serves as a<br />
request for continuance of the award.<br />
9. To retain the award, a student must remain in good standing including meeting all<br />
academic requirements, may not be on academic or administrative probation, must<br />
remain current with all other fee and tuition requirements, must remain in compliance<br />
with all policies and procedures of the <strong>University</strong> and the COM, and must comply with all<br />
applicable laws and regulations of the state and federal authorities.<br />
10. Each scholarship recipient must agree to present a professional image and represent<br />
the COM to the public, as well as to other professional associations or organizations,<br />
when requested.<br />
11. The amount of any scholarship awarded will be deducted from the Cost of Attendance<br />
when calculating an individual student’s maximum financial aid and loan eligibility.<br />
