Board Announcements!
The National board says goodbye to long
time board member David Sung. David was
a quiet and effective Summer Search Board
member for 15 years. His strength, intellect,
and enormous effectiveness will be missed by
everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Good luck, David, in Hong Kong and expect lots
of visitors!
Summer Search New York City proudly
welcomes new board members, Ellen Cohen, a
development professional and a researcher at
the New York City Opera, and Will Ketcham, a
Managing Partner of Serafin Partners LLC, an
investment management firm. Will also serves
on the Advisory Council of summer program
partner, NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership
School).
North San Francisco Bay welcomes Liz
Hale as the new Board Chair and replaces
Bob Pallas who will stay involved as a Board
member.
Summer Search Seattle is very excited to
introduce new board member Amy Petri, the
Director of Marketing & Communications at
Sellen Construction in Seattle.
Silicon Valley welcomes new board members,
Andy Poppink and Jeff Wong. Both are
Stanford graduates, where Andy was a captain
of the basketball team and went on to play
professionally overseas. He is currently Senior
Vice President at the Staubach Company in
Palo Alto. Jeff, also a Stanford Business School
grad, is the Senior Manager of Marketplaces
Strategy at eBay.

March 28th, daughter

Boston’s Executive Director Emily Edwards
will transition to a leadership position with
Summer Search National on November 1st.
Current Program Director Debbie Krause will
step up and lead Summer Search Boston as
the next Executive Director. Summer Search
staff member Yudy Muneton ’99 will return
to graduate school and follow her long-term
dream of becoming a health care professional.

Ramirez, formerly the Program Director of the
San Francisco office, as the new Associate
Director.
Summer Search Philadelphia welcomes Mary
Miceli to the team as Program Associate.
San Francisco is sad to lose Alumnus Carlton
Colbert ’97 who will open his own film &
video business, Colbert Productions. Carlton
explains, “My journey with Summer Search has
taught me to be a role model for students…It
also helped me to be a stronger father for my
8-month old son. Summer Search has helped
me create the family that I never had.”
San Francisco also welcomes Regional Alumni
Coordinator Xuan-Vu Nguyen, Development
and Operations Associate Jessi Misslin and
Program Associates Laura Bloom and former
National Office Manager Lissa Healy to the
team.
Summer Search Seattle will deeply miss the
warmth, courage and leadership of Program
Director and acting Executive Director, Chelsey
Coyte, who will be leaving the office, and
bringing the winds of change to…Australia!

Silicon Valley’s Executive Director Kamba
Tshionyi has been invited to join the 2007-
2008 class of Community Leadership San
Jose as well as the CEN Leaders’ Institute.
Congratulations to North San Francisco
Bay Executive Director Jessica Vibberts, who
received the Rimsky Family Fund for Social
Enterprise Award to attend the Strategic
Perspectives in Non Profit Management course
at Harvard Business School. A special
thank you from Boston to Marla Felcher &
Max Bazerman and Barbara & Jim Conen who
have each established scholarship funds to
help support our college-bound alumni, most
of whom are first generation college students.
The Conen Family Scholarship Fund will award
$10,000 in annual scholarships to a Summer
Search immigrant who will be a first-generation
college student.
New York City congratulates Karen Granados (left)
and Juliana Gonzalez for graduating from Middle
College High School at LaGuardia Community
College as the Salutatorian and Valedictorian,
respectively. In the fall, Juliana will attend Ithaca
College and Karen will attend Skidmore College.
