‘Our involvement with the
poster competition has been
a very inspiring and positive
experience, not only for
shortlisted pupils, but for all
our pupils who got involved.
It gives our pupils a
chance to work as graphic
designers in the real world.’
Entry specifications
• Your pupils’ poster designs should reflect the
spontaneous energy and fun of the Edinburgh Festival
Fringe – the more original the design, the better.
• We are looking for an eye-catching and colourful
design that would be suitable for reproduction on a
range of merchandise.
• Entries must be received by Friday 16 March 2012.
• The competition is only open to pupils aged 5 – 16
years old from schools in Scotland.
• The pupil’s name, age, school and school region must
be clearly marked on the reverse of each entry.
• Include the entry form (found at the bottom of the
enclosed letter) with any artwork submissions. Only
one entry form is needed per class.
• Entries must be A3 size, portrait layout (approx.
287mm wide x 420mm high), and should not be
mounted.
• Entries must be the pupil’s original artwork, and should
not include the words ‘Edinburgh Festival Fringe’ or the
festival dates.
• Although any materials or media can be used to create
or inspire the posters, the final entries must be a twodimensional
representation of these ideas.
• The use of pencil, fluorescent ink or metallics should be
avoided as these will not show up well when the poster
is printed.
Terms and Conditions
• Entries must be received by Friday 16 March 2012.
Late entries will not be accepted.
• Only posters that win a place in the exhibition will be
retained. We cannot return or offer for collection any
other entries. Posters featured in the exhibition can be
collected between 01 and 30 September 2012 from
the Edinburgh Festival Fringe office, 180 High Street.
On 01 October 2012, any posters that have not been
collected will be disposed of.
• The winner of the Schools Poster Competition 2012
shall assign to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, in
perpetuity, all copyright of the winning artwork.
• The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society reserves the
right to use part of or the entire image of the winning
artwork on any Fringe merchandise or promotional
material.
• Submissions that do not meet the deadline or entry
specifications will not be considered.
• The schools that have short-listed posters (including the
winner, runners-up and commendations) will be notified
in April 2012 by post.
• Artwork and completed entry forms should be
submitted via post or in person (10:00 – 17:00,
Monday – Friday) to:
