Double degree co-op programs
Our three double degree programs allow students to combine a business
degree with an honours degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or
Computing & Computer Electronics. All students in the program begin to
participate in co-op in their second year, and most pursue work terms in the fall
and winter.
Business and Mathematics
Honours Business Administration (WLU)
and Honours Mathematics (UW)
Through an innovative partnership with
the University of Waterloo, we offer
a double degree program in Business
Administration and Mathematics. All
students in the program begin co-op in
their second year. They take business
courses at Laurier and math courses at
the University of Waterloo.
Computing and Business
Honours Computer Science or
Honours Computing & Computer Electronics
with Honours Business Administration
Students enrolled in their second year of
the double degree program in Business
Administration with Computer Science
or Business Administration with
Computing & Computer Electronics may
choose to accept automatic admission
to co-op. Participants in these programs
begin their alternating sequence of fourmonth
work and study terms at the end
of second year.
Laurier Co-op has helped me gain unforgettable experiences with
reputable companies. I recently worked with Shell Canada in Calgary, where I held a
unique project analyst position that helped shape my career plans. I also completed
successful work terms at SC Johnson and at Hewlett-Packard. Participating in co-op
has been the most important component of my university career.
I gained experience in project
management during my work terms with
Research In Motion, and I appreciate
RIM’s investment in my growth.
Developing software databases for
internal customers as a business analyst
with Technology & Operations at CIBC
allowed me to integrate my knowledge of
business and computer science.
MBA Co-op
As one of Canada’s largest business schools, Laurier leads the way in developing
globally recognized MBA programs through its academic rigour and innovative
delivery methods. Partnered with one of Canada’s most successful co-op programs,
the Laurier MBA program stresses the skills and abilities to take effective action and
to develop managers.
I applied econometric theory while
researching economic and market
issues for the Asset Mix & Risk
Department at Ontario Teachers’
Pension Plan. Designing financial
market charts and updating economic
models gave me invaluable training in
strategic economics.
Brian Vera, MABE Co-op, Class of 2008
Laurier’s School of Business & Economics
has received the highest form of accreditation
from the prestigious Association
to Advance Collegiate Schools of
Business International, whose standards
are recognized internationally.
Master of Arts in Business
Economics (MABE) Co-op
Co-op students from the Master
of Arts in Business Economics
(MABE) program begin their work
term in May, after completing
two academic terms. They are
available to work for eight
months or four months.
Supportive faculty
Faculty members provide support, advice and guidance to
co-op students. They also work in partnership with co-op
staff to build links with employers.
Co-op has been a valuable experience for our students,
who have benefitted from exploring career possibilities.
Some were eventually employed permanently by their
co-op employer while others discovered their
original career path was not what they expected
(a valuable learning experience in itself).
All gained an appreciation of where their
academic background could lead them.
