Some of you might be thinking, "Oh no!" but for us it is "Oh yes!" Let me tell you why. All of the new ministries God has led us to develop in the past two years are now fully operational. Those 15 children are being helped through 4 different programs. Seven, who were homeless, are now in HomePlace with their mothers. Two of the children are in one of our new off-campus Foster Homes in North Louisiana. Four are in our newly re-assigned Foster Cottages on campus and two are in our regular Residential Care program. All of them are safe. All of them are in church. And all of them are experiencing God's great love at your Children's Home. That's why we can say, "Oh yes!" Our current ministry goal is to double the number of children in care by the end of 2012. The need for our services is certainly growing. Louisiana has the highest rate of homelessness for children in America. Domestic violence is threatening the lives of 1,000s of children in our state and 5,000 children are in need of foster homes. Those statistics should break our hearts. At the same time, they represent a great opportunity that should thrill our souls. Just think of the lives that could be changed if we ministered to 200, 300, or 500 children each year. You see, I believe that God's vision for the Children's Home includes even more than you and I can imagine. Whatever that vision is, we simply need to be faithful today and ready for tomorrow. As we move into these new areas of service, we will need more friends like you. You are our best ambassadors. Tell someone you know about the ministry. Give them your copy of the HomeNews. Bring them to the campus for a tour. With your continued support, new friends, and God's help, we can reach more children and families than ever before. November 7, 2010 is Orphan Sunday “Defend the cause of the fatherless.” Isaiah 1:17 On Orphan Sunday, Christians across the nation will take a stand for the orphan. Hundreds of events across America and beyond will take place, all sharing a single goal: that God’s great love for the orphan will be reflected in our lives as well. Encourage your church, community and friends to take time on Orphan Sunday to pray for orphans and discuss how you might get involved in answering God’s call to care for the orphan. Foster care and adoption specialists at LBCH are available to help your church discover how to make an eternal difference in the lives of thousands of children in Louisiana who need to experience Christ’s love through a Christian home and a church family. • CAMPUS SPOTLIGHT • Tyler arrives home smiling and ready to play after a full day of sitting in the classroom. Three-year-old Nehemiah, son of Hope Cottage parents Stephanie and Joseph Thompson, is outside with his dad, waiting for his cottage brothers to join him for some play time. Tyler has been in Hope Cottage for only a few weeks, but he is welcomed home like a long-time member of the family. A second grader at Cypress Point, Tyler likes math best of all, he says. He is doing well in school but Mr. Thompson adds that Tyler really wants to improve his study habits and his grades. For the moment, though, Tyler is ready to just hang out with his family for a little while. Mrs. Thompson laughs as she describes Tyler as "very energetic." In a cottage of all boys–ages 16, 13, 12, and 3 – seven-year-old Tyler has lots of brothers to wrestle with or play other sports. Tyler says he also enjoys spending time with Nathan and Lucas watching TV, playing Xbox games or watching Battle Force 5. Tyler also looks forward to getting his bicycle soon so he can ride the many campus trails with his friends. Tyler says the Thompsons often take the family to Neville football games, which is a lot of fun. Football is Tyler's favorite sport, so the topic comes up frequently. He enjoys televised games, but the Neville games and being there to see players that he knows seems to have a lot more appeal. Tyler plans to attend LSU one day just to play football. He wants to be a quarterback or running back, or perhaps even a blocker. He is not sure about a major or classes that he might like to sign up for, but LSU football is definitely a priority. Tyler later adds that he might like to be a firefighter someday, too, but he insists that football will come first! The Thompsons and the boys attend First Baptist Church in West Monroe. Tyler reports that they stay for two whole hours every week, but he enjoys his class and big church so that's okay with him. He always looks forward to learning more Bible stories and making new friends. "Tyler is smart and sweet. He's a really good kid… full of questions. He keeps things lively," says Mrs. Thompson. Tyler is definitely inquisitive, and he's excited about being featured in HomeNews and having his family read about him. He wants to know everything he might possibly be asked and why! And it's obvious that he also generates a lot of excitement in the cottage as he engages Calob in a Nerf gun battle in the living room while Nehemiah looks on, waiting to be included. Tyler says his experience at LBCH has been good. For him, the family meals are a big deal, and his favorite menu item is beef stew. He really doesn't mind doing his chores, such as vacuuming the carpets in the living and family rooms. Having so many brothers and nice cottage parents has made his transition to Hope Cottage easier. Tyler says the Thompsons are nice and easy to talk to, and it's clear that little Nehemiah and the other boys in the cottage really like Tyler. But for now, it's a beautiful day and this high-energy young man is out of questions for the moment. He's ready to head outdoors for some fun time and maybe even some football before homework and dinner. Tyler assists Director of Cottage Life, Tommy Frost in Wednesday night chapel service.
