Amanda Burnham, 2011
on her explorations and encounters with
the city, Burnham works on site, producing
drawings either in the out-of-doors or
the landscape for found fragments of
language and records the poetics of vacant
lots, movable type signs, billboards, and
row houses with ink and water and other
media on paper.”
Der Lauf der Dinge
January 6 – May 3, 2012
Der Lauf der Dinge (The Way Things Go,
clever causal chain assembled of everyday
objects.
February 4 – June 3, 2012
Joe Netta, 2010
ordinary building materials like cement,
electrical tape and wire, plywood, drywall,
PVC tubes, insulation, and fastenings, they
create works that address issues related to
the urban experience, rus in urbe, suburbia,
consumption, liminality, memory and
nostalgia, and states of reality.
Intimate Constructions
E. Avery Draper Gallery
February 28 – May 20, 2012
Rebecca Murtaugh, 2012
Intimate Constructions seeks to create a
sense of of ethereality through the use of
repurposed Styrofoam packaging and
discarded house paints. The insular nature
of Styrofoam is used both metaphorically
and literally. The installation places the
viewer in a position to question scale, the
nature of structures, and our place within
our environment.
Erin Murray
Municipalia
Beckler Family Members’ Gallery
March 2 – June 3, 2012
Erin Murray, 2012
In her paintings and drawings, Murray
investigates the architecture of
bureaucracy through the stripped down
buildings of Modernism’s municipal
structures, revealing the protocols of
officialdom by careful observation and
interpretation of what she believes to be
the underappreciated beauty of
buildings of authority and procedure.
Working with flat planes of color and
contrasting textures, the artist creates
powerful images of the American
architectural scene, revealing an
architecture that exclaims its purpose.
fiber, wood, plastic, metal, and digital
to address themes of intimacy,
deception, desire, memory, and history.
Zullinger’s current work centers on
ideas of entropy where systems of nature
move from order to disorder. One
of those systems is the human body.
Through photographic portraits, the artist
examines the chaos that occurs as
our bodies age.
A panoramic projection of an imagined
lunar landscapes reminiscent of science
fiction film imagery. Using a variety of
self-produced and appropriated imagery,
collaborators Hironaka and Suib explore
the narrative and metaphorical potential
of images and sound within the context of
current and historical events, and cinematic
conventions.
Sarah A. Myers (Cheltenham, PA) creates
unique, high quality sterling silver jewelry.
Through the juxtaposition of freshwater
pearls with sculptural sterling silver, she
mixes the organic with the inorganic. Using
traditional metalsmithing techniques,
Myers’ work is hand fabricated using
sterling and fine silver with 14k gold and
pearls for color. It is not unusual for one
of her pieces to take over 18 hours to
produce.
Cutesy but not Cutesy, Diane Koss
June 1 – August 1, 2012
Opening Reception: Friday, June 1
Diane Koss, No. 4 (of 5)
from “Home is where the
heart is” series, 2010, faux
fur, polyester felt,
and fiberfill.
Diane Koss (Westmont, NJ) of Cutesy but
not Cutesy uses sewing and creating as a
way to pay homage to her grandmother’s
hard work in hand stitching clothing
and quilts. It allows Koss time to reflect
on the disappearing tradition of the
handmade. Her monsters allow her to add
a contemporary twist on a long-standing
tradition. Each monster is an extension
of herself and her creativity. They are
adventurous creatures and deserve to be
released to all corners of the earth!
