DEPARTMENT OF MEDIA STUDIES<br />

<strong>Media</strong> Studies is about appreciating the<br />

skill and creativity which goes into the<br />

production of texts for communicating,<br />

be it face to face or through media. This<br />

is a discipline that successfully weds<br />

traditional forms of communication and<br />

other allied social sciences with<br />

contemporary critical and cultural<br />

studies theory to analyze and assess the<br />

role and impact of communications and<br />

media in contemporary society.<br />

Since its inception, the Mass<br />

Communication course offered by the<br />

Department of <strong>Media</strong> Studies in <strong>Christ</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> has climbed heights and is<br />

currently ranked 3 rd in India according to<br />

the India Today – AC Neilson Survey. This<br />

rank reflects the hard work and<br />

dedication by the students and the<br />

department. The Department strives to<br />

reach greater heights in the near future<br />

and be recognized as the top Mass<br />

Communication course in the country.<br />

ABOUT MEDIA MEET<br />

The Department of <strong>Media</strong> Studies, <strong>Christ</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> is organizing <strong>Media</strong> Meet 2013. The<br />

core theme this year is ‘<strong>Broadcast</strong> <strong>Media</strong>’. The<br />

event will be a platform for media and<br />

communication students all over India, to compete<br />

and participate in intellectually and creatively<br />

designed events and workshops.<br />

Government and private sector Universities,<br />

Colleges and Institutes in India are creating<br />

platforms for competition for media students,<br />

focussing only on creative aspects. The event is<br />

open to both Undergraduate and Post Graduate<br />

students. <strong>Media</strong> Meet 2013 will stand apart with<br />

its blend with research, academic and creative<br />

skills. The platform we provide is distinctive with<br />

its commitment to quality and diversity.<br />

As the name suggests, <strong>Media</strong> Meet is a platform<br />

dedicated to bridge the gap between academic<br />

and the industry. In today’s rapidly changing and<br />

competitive environment, academics have to be<br />

able to keep up with the industry. This will help the<br />

students be in sync with the latest trends in the<br />

industry and acquire the relevant skills, attitudes,<br />

and knowledge.

Gray Matter (Quiz)<br />

Come and put your brain to the ultimate test<br />

of knowledge and wit. The quiz will include<br />

both general and media based questions.<br />

Get the boasting rights of being the<br />

smartest among your fellow competitors.<br />

The quiz will include both general and<br />

media based questions.<br />

The preliminary round will be a written<br />

round where teams will be given 15<br />

questions. Each question will carry different<br />

marks. The top 7 teams will qualify for<br />

round 2 which will include different rounds.<br />

At the end of first 2 rounds the bottom 2<br />

teams will be eliminated.<br />

The remaining five teams will battle it out in<br />

the remaining rounds to be crowned<br />

champions.<br />

Each team can contain a maximum of 3 members<br />

during the event. Teams found using them will be<br />

disqualified<br />

The organizers decision is final in case of any<br />

disputes/ confusion.<br />

Any team found using unfair means during the<br />

quiz will be disqualified.<br />

Rules are subject to change at the discretion of<br />

the organizers.<br />

Are you a constant chatter? Here<br />

is the opportunity to unravel your<br />

creative verbal skills which will<br />

help you stand out of the crowd<br />

Jockey. Random pictures will be<br />

displayed and the participants<br />

need to relate these pictures and<br />

speak as an RJ hosting a show.<br />

Usage of vulgar/provocative language is not permitted.<br />

Each participant will be given their character 3 minutes<br />

before the event starts.<br />

Each participant gets maximum 2 minutes to speak on stage.<br />

No participant will be allowed to change the character/ role<br />

given to them. No participant will be allowed to change their<br />

characters once the event starts.<br />

In case of any dispute, the organizers will have the final say.<br />

Ethics and code of conduct needs to be maintained.<br />

Any participant who exceeds the time limit will be liable for<br />

negative marking.<br />

Ground rules will be established prior to the event.<br />

to edit and package<br />

the entire race in a 4<br />

minute video.<br />

This is your chance to put those<br />

ideas on paper and expose the<br />

world to your hidden talent. The<br />

first two lines of the episode/show<br />

will be provided. The objective of<br />

the event is to come up with a<br />

potential script for a television<br />

program/show. The first two lines<br />

of the program/show will be<br />

provided. The participants must<br />

use these lines to develop a script<br />

containing 5 scenes/episodes.<br />

Rules and Regulations<br />

Each team should comprise of minimum 3 and maximum 5<br />

participants.<br />

The Team members have to bring their own camera and laptops.<br />

Mobile Cameras are allowed provided there is high definition quality.<br />

Only two members of the team can solve the clues and search for the<br />

treasure, while the others can record them running and help in editing.<br />

Once the race has been run, the members will be given a day’s time to<br />

edit and package the contents into an episode which lasts not more<br />

than 4 mins (excluding the credits).<br />

Submissions must be done at the registration desk at 8:00 am on the<br />

second day of the event.<br />

Any editing software can be used by the participants.<br />

On ground rules will be applicable while running the race (will be<br />

announced prior to the start)<br />

There will be three rounds of the race. The bottom placed teams will<br />

be eliminated after every round. The top five teams will race for the<br />

ultimate treasure.<br />

In case of any disputes the organizers decision is final.<br />

The lines which are given to the participants has to be<br />

used in the scenes.<br />

The scenes cannot be copied or taken from any existing<br />

program. Plagiarism will lead to disqualification.<br />

The scenes may or may not contain dialogues. It is up<br />

to the participants as to how they want the scenes to<br />

be.<br />

There is no restriction on the word limit of the script.<br />

Each group will be given 1 hour to write the script.<br />

REGISTRATION<br />

Participants must pay Rs 100 to take part in the events in <strong>Media</strong> Meet. There is no registration fees for individual events and<br />

participants are allowed to take part in any number of events once they pay the mandatory amount of Rs 100.<br />

<strong>Media</strong> Meet registrations begin at 7:00 am on 16 th August. Spot registrations are allowed but participants are requested to<br />

register prior through online registration form present in the official media meet website to confirm early participation as the<br />

registration is done on first come first basis.<br />

Students participating from <strong>Christ</strong> <strong>University</strong> must register for the events on or before July 27 th . Any registration post July 27 th<br />

will not be encouraged. The registration form is made available in the official <strong>Media</strong> Meet website.<br />

ACCOMMODATION<br />

Participants coming outside Bangalore city will be provided with accommodation facilities by the organisers.<br />

Venue- In and around the <strong>Christ</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus<br />

Fee- The participants are required to pay an amount of Rs 250 per day for their stay during <strong>Media</strong> Meet.
