1 INTRODUCTION
EnterpriseDB is the leading worldwide provider of Postgres software and services that
enable enterprises to reduce their reliance on costly proprietary solutions and slash their
database spend by 80% or more. With powerful performance and security enhancements
for PostgreSQL, sophisticated management tools for global deployments and Oracle
compatibility, EnterpriseDB software supports both mission and non-‐mission critical
enterprise applications. More than 2,000 enterprises, governments and other organizations
worldwide use EnterpriseDB software, support, training and professional services to
integrate open source software into their existing data infrastructures.
PostgreSQL is a powerful, open source object-‐relational database system with a strong
reputation for reliability, data integrity, and stability. Postgres is rapidly becoming the
preferred open source relational database for enterprises, governments, ISVs and OEMs.
Many companies are switching from well-‐known brand-‐name closed-‐source database
solutions to Postgres. Postgres is seeing a steadily growing number of mission critical and
large-‐scale applications.
EDB’s Global Training Services has developed a series of courses that are designed to meet
the needs of database administrators and application developers of all levels. Our world
class courses address key questions pertaining to how and when to use Postgres, how to
install it, configure for optimal performance, secure a Postgres database, back it up and
recover a database, migrate from a closed source database to Postgres, design applications
that leverage Postgres’ advanced capabilities, use the features of Postgres Plus and how to
configure and operate Postgres Plus Cloud Database.
EDB Global Training Services delivers training onsite at the customer, on demand, online
through live virtual training, and through open enrollment scheduled training sessions.
All of our training classes include
7 ENTERPRISE ENABLEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS
EDB has developed several enterprise enablement programs to help customers quickly
achieve a high degree of Postgres competency. The Kick-‐start program focuses on
companies that are exploring Postgres; the Enterprise Foundation program focuses on
supporting large scale mission critical deployments.
7.1 POSTGRES KICK-‐START
EDB’s Postgres Kick-‐start helps organizations and small teams get started with using
Postgres. Kick-‐start combines on-‐demand training with consulting sessions that can be used
for Q&A, architecture review, problem solving or mentoring.
Postgres Kick-‐start includes:
• 2 seats for any of these On-‐Demand courses:
o Introduction to PostgreSQL Administration
o Advanced PostgreSQL Administration
o PostgreSQL for Developers & Architects
o Postgres Plus Advanced Server Administration
• 4 half-‐day architecture advisory sessions (remote) by an experienced
senior Postgres Consultant or mentoring & Questions&Answers Sessions (remote)
by one of our lead trainers.
Time to consume: 8 weeks
7.2 POSTGRES ENTERPRISE FOUNDATION
EDB’s Postgres Enterprise Foundation (PEF) addresses the needs of larger organizations
that want to deploy Postgres into mission critical applications. These organizations need to
make sure that they are Postgres-‐ready at every level, starting with the Infrastructure DBA
all the way to the application developer.
This program helps:
o
o
o
o
o
Understand the organizational training requirements by developing individualized
training curricula for every team member
Implement skills improvement and Postgres readiness programs by managing the
deployment of training to the organization
Understand Postgres readiness through monthly reports on who took the training,
who has been certified at what level, and who has achieved the goals set forth in
their individual training programs
Plan and budget for organizational training needs by using proven best practices the
How the PEF program works:
o
o
o
o
The customer, together with their EDB account manager, assesses the high-‐level
organizational training requirements
Based on EDB’s experience, the account manager proposes a set of Training Credits
that can be used towards onsite, on-‐demand or online training classes. The credits
can also be applied towards Postgres certifications. Credits are valid globally and
can be redeemed over a 6 months period.
At the start of the program, EDB assigns a Training Coordinator to the customer
project
The Training Coordinator
o Develops individualized Postgres training goals and Postgres skills
development plans for every team member. This is based on skills surveys
and short interviews
o Creates a master plan of onsite, on demand and on line classes with
proposed attendees
o Manages the list of training attendees and encourages them individually
with monthly emails to execute on their Postgres skills development plan,
attend training sessions and take certification exams
o Provides monthly progress reports to the customer showing who has signed
up for which training class, how much progress (% of modules opened) they
have made in on demand classes, and which certifications they have
attempted or completed
o Reports monthly on the available credits
PEF credits can be used for any scheduled online class, any available on-‐demand
class, standard onsite classes, custom onsite classes or certifications
All EDB’s training formats have a credit equivalent. Please refer to the table shown below
