Intensive English
You can choose to study Intensive English full
time. Improve your fluency, accuracy and expand
your vocabulary through speaking, listening,
reading and writing.
OR
English and Electives
Study Intensive English in the mornings. In the
afternoons, depending on your level of English,
you may request placement in a particular area of
interest or choose from the following electives:
• Speaking, Listening and Vocabulary
Development
Develop and practise intensive listening skills
while improving vocabulary knowledge, using
authentic material from TV and radio, as well as
textbook and internet-based resource material.
Students will be writing dialogues using real life
situations.
• Reading, Writing and Vocabulary
Development
Improve general reading and writing skills using
a wide variety of formal and informal reading
texts such as magazines, newspapers and the
internet. Develop a range of reading skills such
as scanning, skimming and reading for detail.
Learn how to plan and write with structure and
cohesion.
• Introduction to Tourism
New Zealand has a worldwide reputation
for its “pure, clean and green” image. Learn
about tourism; one of New Zealand’s biggest
industries, in a local context. Explore the
Hospitality Sector, Adventure Tourism, Cultural
Tourism and the move to Environmentally
Sustainable Tourism.
• Volunteer Work
Students may consider volunteering in the
Christchurch community in areas like: caring
for the elderly, helping in schools, office
work, or retail and gardening. Students enjoy
practising their English and making new friends
in the community. A good level of confidence
in English speaking and listening is required.
Please note: hours can be irregular during
this course.
• Introduction to Business
Learn about Business in a New Zealand and
international context. You will study company
structures, marketing principles, aspects of
globalisation, innovation, issues relating to
branding and employment. The course will be a
series of lectures and tutorials with some local
business visits and will be project focused.
