LHBOA Mission:
To preserve Lake Hefner as a safe,
naturally beautiful public place
for community boating.
Presidents Message
Its Happening, Now What Do We Do?
The fact is now unmistakable. All the signs are there. Just as foretold
by the all-knowing tellers with good hair in digital HD. Spring is
coming, indeed, it may well be here. First, we have to make peace with
ourselves about it, then we must take action to deal with it. If you are a
boater part of that “dealing” is the dreaded “make ready.”
Time to assess our yachts, clean them to Bristol condition, repair
their imperfections, and prepare them for a season of enjoyment.
Whether fishing, sailing, paddling, cruising or all of the above a clean,
properly maintained and equipped vessel makes the process easier,
safer and more enjoyable. (I was recently asked how big a boat had to
be to be considered a yacht. That varies place to place of course. My
definition does not include length. Any vessel with the goals of relaxation
and respite is a yacht. But don’t tell the taxman.) Lake Hefner Boat
Owners Association plans several meetings this year on the subject of
boat maintenance and equipment.
What makes LHBOA both possible and successful is the participation
of Lake Hefner boaters and support from those boaters as paid
members of the Association. Your membership in LHBOA provides
many services for yourself, your family, your fellow boaters, and your
community. These include; a meeting place for the Association and
related groups, an organized voice with the various government departments
and organizations that we rely on for safety and access, Harbor
Watch, self help and reporting for boats in distress, safety seminars and
other boating related presentations and more.
Membership information and forms are located in the dock-mail
boxes at each gate and on the website at http://members.doubleknot.
com/lhboa/.
Please. Join, participate, and enjoy.
Friends Of Lake Hefner News
The trees have been planted and the watering has
begun. Duties are being coordinated by Tom Solinski
of the T.O.R.Ks. Currently there are six teams on a
rotating schedule. Each team will be ‘on the schedule’
for a week at a time. Whether or not they water is dependent
upon the soil testing results. If you want to be
part of a watering crew, please contact John Robison.
Check our website www.lakehefner.org and our
Blogspot. http://lake-hefner.blogspot.com/ Let us hear
from you about your ideas and concerns for our lake.
Lake Hefner Spring Clean
Saturday, May 2, 2009 has been selected as the date for the Annual Lake Hefner
Spring Clean. Please put the date on your calendar and bring your family and friends
out to help us clean up Lake Hefner. The Parrotheads have also volunteered to join
us. The plan is to start about 10:00 at COSA Park, just in front of the courtesy dock,
distribute bags and gloves and join back together at Noon for burgers and hotdogs.
From the Commodore
URGENT - ALL COSA MEMBERS
We need to get together to make YOUR schedule
for this season. Items for consideration include, but
are not limited to:
• What day & time do we want to have our races
on weekday evening, Saturday, or Sunday?
• Do we want to have the Friday night HOT DOG
cook out & or BEER CAN races?
• We also need to have a racing rules seminar since
some of the rules changed this year. We can do this in
the evening or on the weekend, what ever works best
for everyone.
I need some input from you all so we can get this
show on the water.
I will be out of town from March 15th thru 21st,
but I will be checking my email. I would like to have a
meeting soon so let me know what works best for you.
PLEASE, I need your feed back.
