Calixte Aholu: Mr. Aholu was born in Lome, Togo and raised in Paris, France, where he worked as a<br />

computer specialist for the French bank, La Société Générale. He currently resi<strong>de</strong>s in <strong>Fresno</strong> where<br />

he is a stu<strong>de</strong>nt at CSU <strong>Fresno</strong>.<br />

Mathieu Richaud: Dr. Richaud is an assistant professor of geosciences at <strong>Fresno</strong> State doing<br />

research in oceanography and climate change. A native of France, Mathieu has spent the last 10<br />

years in Illinois, Georgia and California, pon<strong>de</strong>ring the similarities and differences between<br />

Americans and French people.<br />

David Ross: Dr. Ross taught French at <strong>Fresno</strong> State 1968-2009. He studied two years in France,<br />

completed a doctorate at UCLA in 1973, adored teaching French Civilization, and maintains an<br />

interest in the French Enlightenment.<br />

Norman Stokle:: Dr. Stokle lived in France for 29 years before settling in <strong>Fresno</strong> in 2008. He taught<br />

French language and civilization to American un<strong>de</strong>rgraduates in the U.S.A. and in France for four<br />

<strong>de</strong>ca<strong>de</strong>s and has written a number of articles on French culture for various aca<strong>de</strong>mic journals.<br />

Kao-Ly Yang: Dr. Yang has been teaching French at <strong>Fresno</strong> State since 2004. She grew up in France<br />

where she obtained her Ph.D. in anthropology at the Université <strong>de</strong> Provence in 1999. She is an expert<br />

in Hmong studies.

FRENCH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!<br />

On Saturday, May 7, the World Language Fair will be held at Sanger High School from 9:00<br />

a.m. to 3:00 p.m. More than 4,000 Valley high school stu<strong>de</strong>nts will compete in different foreign<br />

language events. French-speaking volunteers are nee<strong>de</strong>d to serve as judges, referees, fortune<br />

tellers, passport inspectors, pétanque instructors, etc. Please consi<strong>de</strong>r volunteering to help for a<br />

Orpheus Chamber Music Ensemble<br />

Sunday, May 8, 5 PM, <strong>Fresno</strong> State, Wahlberg Auditorium, Old Music Building.<br />

Co-sponsored by the <strong>Alliance</strong>, the concert features Russian pianist Natasha Kislenko, and other performers,<br />

who will play Scriabin: Désir, Careese dansée, “Black Mass” Sonata No. 9, Shastakovich: Piano Quintet in G<br />

minor, Satie: Trois Gnossiennes, and Saint-Saëns: Septuor pour piano, trompette, et cor<strong>de</strong>s, or Septet for<br />

trumpet, piano, string quartet, and double bass. Parking at <strong>Fresno</strong> State is free and unrestricted on<br />

Sundays. Admission for Orpheus concerts is: General - $12.00; Seniors and CSUF faculty - $6.00; Stu<strong>de</strong>nts<br />

with valid ID – Free.<br />

CAFÉS DE L’ALLIANCE<br />

The Cafés <strong>de</strong> l’<strong>Alliance</strong> meet for conversation in French every Thursday from 3:30-5:00 PM.<br />

On the 2 nd Thursday of the month we meet from 3:30-6:00 PM. We meet at La Boulangerie in<br />

Fig Gar<strong>de</strong>n Village. Please join us.<br />
