Located on the 26 th to 28 th levels, 

the Hotel’s three Speciality Suites

The Presidential Suite 

Located at the highest level of the Hotel, 

the Presidential Suite offers the largest and 

most luxurious accommodation in the city 

at 312 square meters. It offers two 

bedrooms with a separate parlor, 

kitchenette, dining area, an expansive 

bathroom with LCD television, bidet, 

separate shower cubicle and a bathtub with 

an unparalleled view of the Makati skyline. 

An in-suite butler service is also available. 

Makati Shangri-La, Manila has also 

pioneered a paperless check-in system as 

well as a green transport alternative for 

guests. The newest addition to the Hotel’s 

fleet of vehicles is the 2012 Mercedes- 

Benz S-Class S400 Hybrid. Hotel guests 

may now enjoy a reduced carbon footprint 

in their travels when they choose to cruise

Makati Shangri-La, Manila’s

The Hotel’s Rizal Ballroom is the 

largest in the city at 1,434 square 

meters and with a ceiling height of

Business Hotel 

“Embrace”: Makati Shangri-La’s Care for People Project 

Makati Shangri-La, Manila strongly believes in continuously contributing positive action 

to the environment in which it operates. Under the umbrella of “sustainability”, the 

hotel’s social responsibility program focuses on the element of embrace. “Embrace” 

focuses on Shangri-La’s Care for People Project, which aims to promote the highest level 

of education and health support in underprivileged 

communities. 

For its “Embrace” project, Makati Shangri-La, 

Manila has partnered with Ospital ng Makati 

(Hospital of Makati) and the Cancer Warrior 

Foundation in sponsoring young children diagnosed 

with a critical illness. Hotel colleagues have shared 

their personal time for these little warriors. 

To date, the Hotel has been supporting nine children 

who have been diagnosed with Acute 

Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Non 

Rhabdomyosarcoma or Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. 

Eight children have been undergoing 

chemotherapy at different doses and stages at the 

tender age of six and seven, while one child has 

suffered third degree burns and is undergoing skin 

grafting.

The children are also given birthday and Christmas parties at the hotel, with themed 

games and food. The objective is to enable the children to enjoy a full life, as well as to 

encourage them in their fight to survive. 

Health and safety 

A dedicated Security team and Fire and Life Safety 

team are on hand and are thoroughly trained for 

emergencies of all types. Fire and emergency 

evacuation drills are conducted on a monthly basis 

to ensure that all employees understand their 

importance. 

Makati Shangri-La, Manila has also been certified 

for Occupational Health and Safety 18001 – an 

international accreditation that focuses on the 

welfare of employees through the creation of proper 

work environments free from accident and 

susceptibility to injury. 

Food safety 

Makati Shangri-La, Manila complies with the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point 

(HACCP) standard. The HACCP focuses on preventing hazards that could cause foodborne 

illnesses by applying science-based controls on everything from raw materials to 

finished products. The methodology is based on seven key principles: hazard analysis, 

critical control point identification, establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, 

corrective action, verification procedures, and record-keeping and documentation. 

HACCP consultants work closely with Shangri-La to understand, assess and enhance 

operations and food safety practices. In addition to the existing Shangri-La Food Safety 

Management System, which was designed according to HACCP principles, a dedicated 

food hygienist in each Shangri-La hotel oversees implementation of HACCP through 

education, training, execution and maintenance of the program. 

Environment and sustainability 

Makati Shangri-La, Manila is dedicated to fulfilling its business objectives with due 

regard to the environment, having defined an Environmental Policy that encapsulates the 

principles governing the way in which it runs its business to minimize environmental 

impact. This includes compliance with the requirements of ISO 14001.

Among Makati Shangri-La’s green initiatives: 

• Paperless check-in and check-out process for all guests. 

• A gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle: the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S400, to 

enable guests to reduce their carbon footprint while traveling within the city. 

• All bathroom amenities in the guestrooms use recyclable material made from 

PSM or plant starch-based material, which can be biodegradable by 70% in three 

months. These include all toothbrushes, combs, floss, shower caps, and 

packaging boxes. The boxes are printed in soy-based ink. 

• Green message hanger and cards in the guestrooms contain environmental 

messages on how guests can help conserve water and energy. 

• Information on the Hotel’s CSR activities is included in the Guest Service 

Directories in all guestrooms and suites. 

• Use of CFL and LED light bulbs in the guestrooms and public areas that save at 

least 40% energy or 33.64kg of carbon dioxide/night. 

• LED lights have been installed in public areas, and intelligent lighting has been 

employed in function rooms. 

• A water treatment facility to convert used water into recycled or tertiary water. 

This water is used for flushing toilets and to water plants in the garden. 

• Solid waste management: A sewage treatment plant was built to separate and 

properly dispose of accumulated waste. 

• For laundry, water is used as a natural solvent. Detergents and conditioners are 

biodegradable and machine components are recyclable. 

• Paper stock used is made from 100% post-consumer waste, and 100% of the 

electricity used to manufacture the paper is offset with Renewable Energy 

Certificates (RECs) from nonpolluting wind power projects. All are acid-free. 

• Since January 17, 2012, all Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts have ceased to serve 

shark fin in all of its operated restaurants, as well as accepting new orders for 

shark fin products in banqueting. Within the year, other endangered species such 

as bluefin tuna and Chilean sea bass will be phased out. The new policy is a 

continuation of Shangri-La’s journey towards environmental support.

• The Hotel has a dedicated CSR team and all Hotel colleagues actively participate 

in cleanup drives in partnership with government and private establishments to 

raise awareness on keeping urban areas clean and safe. Among these are the Nat 

Geo Run and the International Coastal Cleanup Drive in partnership with the 

Department of Environmental Resources.

The premier shopping store in the country, 

Rustan’s has a complete line of imported 

items as well as quality local goods. It also 

has a supermarket with a winery, deli and 

coffee shop. 

SM 

The country’s biggest chain of department stores offers a complete line of clothing, shoes 

and accessories for the whole family. It also carries home furnishing, appliances, a 

supermarket and fast food center in the basement. 

SM Kultura 

Located within SM, Kultura offers a definitive shopping experience for Philippine crafts 

and culture. It showcases a wide array of local furniture, houseware, home décor, fashion, 

souvenir items and local delicacies. 

The Landmark 

This massive department store is noted for 

its quality and extensive selection of items, 

both local and imported. It has the largest 

supermarket space with a wide range of

For over 40 years, this freestanding store has been featuring handcrafted products made 

from wood, shell, fiber, paper, bamboo, vines, resin, metal, clay and other indigenous

Parks 

Ayala Triangle Gardens 

Located at the convergence between three 

major thoroughfares – Ayala Avenue, Paseo 

de Roxas and Makati Avenue – the Ayala 

Triangle Gardens is Makati’s version of 

Central Park. The landscape is a popular 

spot for strolls, jogging and dining. There 

are year-round exhibits and events as well. 

Washington Sycip Park 

This park is located on Rada Street, Legazpi 

Village and has lush greenery, a pond, 

bridge and gazebo. 

Weekend Markets 

Locals and foreigners alike flock to Salcedo 

and Legazpi markets on weekends for food 

jaunts. Salcedo Market is open every Saturday, and features mainly food stalls and fresh 

produce from nearby farms. Legazpi Market is open every Sunday and features a more 

complete outdoor shopping experience with food, handicrafts, home décor and fragrance 

options. 

Art and Culture 

Ayala Museum 

The Ayala Museum was built in 

1967, and is considered one of the 

most important private institutions 

preserving Philippine art and culture. 

It has evolved into a museum of fine 

arts and history, with regular exhibits 

featuring national artists. It is 

conveniently located between the 

Greenbelt 4 and 5 shopping enclaves, 

steps away from the hotel. 

Filipinas Heritage Library 

This library houses the oldest and most extensive Filipiniana collection in the country. 

This includes over 2,000 volumes of rare books that were printed before 1946, and over 

12,000 volumes of monographs printed from 1946 to the present. It is located in the

Nielsen Tower, the oldest building in the Makati Central Business District, and is a short 

walk from the hotel. 

Historical Monuments 

Ninoy Aquino 

At the corner of Paseo de Roxas and Ayala Avenue, 

stands the Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino monument. The 

bronze statue, made by Peter de Guzman, 

commemorates the former senator and national hero 

who was the most vocal opponent of Martial Law in the 

1970s and early 1980s. He was also the father of the 

current president of the Philippine Republic. 

Pio del Pilar 

This sculpture was made by Jose Mendoza, who also 

made the Sultan Kudarat and Gabriela Silang 

monuments within the Makati CBD. It is dedicated to a former general who sought 

Philippine independence during the American Period. He is also known as the “Hero of 

Makati.” It is located along the northbound lane of Makati Avenue approaching the 

intersection of Paseo de Roxas. 

Sultan Kudarat 

Across from the Pio del Pilar monument is a statue of one of the most prominent Muslim 

Filipino leaders of the 1600s: Sultan Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat, who successfully 

repulsed the Spaniards from conquering Mindanao. 

Gabriela Silang 

At the heart of Ayala Avenue rises the Gabriela Silang Monument, created in 1971 to 

commemorate a national heroine who was among those who led the revolt for Philippine 

freedom.

Hilton’s novel Lost Horizon published in 1933, the 

name Shangri-La encapsulates the serenity and 

hospitality for which the brand is renowned worldwide. 

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts 

currently owns and/or manages 78 hotels under the 

Shangri-La, Kerry and Traders brands, with a room
