The National Innovation Agency (NIA) was established by the Ministry of 

Science and Technology on October 1, 2003. It is an autonomous organization 

operating under the policy guidance of the National Innovation Board, chaired by 

the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology. This special 

organizational structure, which is outside the normal framework of state enterprise 

and civil service, enables the NIA to take a board-based, systematic approach 

towards enhancing the entire innovation system of Thailand in support of national 

economic and social development. 

The National Innovation Agency functions as a core organization in 

coordinating, networking and partnering with different organizations from various 

fields, such as education, technology, finance and investment, but mainly focuses on 

utilizing knowledge management to achieve innovation, particularly to induce 

“innovation on Cluster Platform” which uses innovation as the principal tool in 

improving the quality of life and as a driving tool for competitive economics.

Thai Bioplastics Industry Association what founded on May 22, 2007 in 

response to the global environmental concerns and the increasing demand of 

environmentally friendly products. With the initiation of the National Innovation 

Agency (NIA) and the enthusiasm from Thai industries, strong bioplastics networks 

were established. 

Started with 5 members, TBIA has been a dynamic force to drive Bioplastics 

industry in Thailand. Many activities, such as educating consumers, research and 

development in bioplastics technology, drafting the national bioplastics roadmap, 

were executed by the organization. Today, TBIA has 31 members and counting on. 

TBIA aims to be the center of Bioplastics in Thailand including bioplastics 

knowledge, certified testing labatory, cooperation with government agencies, 

acting as the country representative for international Bioplastics venue.

Established by the German Government in 1974, the Deutsche Gesellschaft 

fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH is a non-profit global cooperation 

enterprise for sustainable development. It provides technical, managerial and 

advisory services that support complex development and reform processes of

UNESCAP is the regional headquarters of the United Nations Secretariat in 

Asia and the Pacific, dedicated to promoting economic and social development in 

Asia and the Pacific. Founded in 1947 in Shanghai China, it moved to Bangkok, 

Thailand in 1949. It consists of 53 members and nine associate members. Members 

and associate members of UNESCAP meet annually at the ministerial level to 

discuss economic and social issues and the challenges that face the region, as well as 

to approve the work program. An advisory committee of permanent representatives 

from embassies in Bangkok meets monthly to advise the Executive Secretary. The 

Commission reports to the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New 

York.UNESCAP is the most comprehensive intergovernmental body covering the 

Asian and Pacific countries. Thus it can address interdependent and multidimensional 

problems from a multispectral and inter-country perspective. The focus is 

now on narrowing disparities through action oriented program in three thematic 

areas: reducing poverty, managing globalization and addressing emerging social 

issues. As a result of the comparative advantages of UNESCAP– its regional 

convening authority, and its role as a regional focal point for world conferences, it 

is strategically positioned to broker regional agreements and action plans, setting 

regional norms and standards, and through its policy advocacy, it supports 

implementation. In addition to its regional authority, UNESCAP can influence the 

global agenda. The value of its research and analytical work is based on its impartial 

role, its long institutional memory with a document and information base, and its 

interdisciplinary approach. It can also call upon a large, well established network of 

intergovernmental and civil contacts. The work program reflects the needs of 

member countries in a cost effective way because of in-house expertise.

Originally established in January 1920, Mazda started manufacturing tools 

in 1929 and soon branched out into production of trucks for commercial use. In the

Overseas sites include AutoAlliance (Thailand) Co. Ltd. (AAT), a joint venture

Unitika got its start in 1889, with the founding of Amagasaki Spinners, a 

historic first step in the start of Japan’s textile industry. The company changed its 

name to Dainippon Spinners in 1918. In 1969, the company merged with Nippon 

Rayon and took Unitika as the new company’s name. Since then, Unitika has 

expanded the business field to films, spunbonds, medical materials, environmental

Unitika produced the world’s first simultaneously biaxially oriented Nylon

Unitika started the business of biomass-based material, TERRAMAC, over

BASF in Thailand was established in 1966 growing from 30 employees to 

more than 300 in 2008. Its facilities serve various industries with chemical products
