Asia and the Pacific. Founded in 1947 in Shanghai China, it moved to Bangkok,
Thailand in 1949. It consists of 53 members and nine associate members. Members
and associate members of UNESCAP meet annually at the ministerial level to
discuss economic and social issues and the challenges that face the region, as well as
to approve the work program. An advisory committee of permanent representatives
from embassies in Bangkok meets monthly to advise the Executive Secretary. The
Commission reports to the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New
York.UNESCAP is the most comprehensive intergovernmental body covering the
Asian and Pacific countries. Thus it can address interdependent and multidimensional
problems from a multispectral and inter-country perspective. The focus is
now on narrowing disparities through action oriented program in three thematic
areas: reducing poverty, managing globalization and addressing emerging social
issues. As a result of the comparative advantages of UNESCAP– its regional
convening authority, and its role as a regional focal point for world conferences, it
is strategically positioned to broker regional agreements and action plans, setting
regional norms and standards, and through its policy advocacy, it supports
implementation. In addition to its regional authority, UNESCAP can influence the
global agenda. The value of its research and analytical work is based on its impartial
role, its long institutional memory with a document and information base, and its
interdisciplinary approach. It can also call upon a large, well established network of
intergovernmental and civil contacts. The work program reflects the needs of
member countries in a cost effective way because of in-house expertise.
Polymaterial Technology Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of the “CPPC Public
company is based in Rayong (Thailand). P.M.T.C was founded with the objective not
only to supply the local market with high quality plastic compound, but also high
standard products at competitive cost for international market. The new CPPC
R&D Center was established in 2003 for the benefit of our customer. A team of
experienced, as well as young active researchers are working continuously on new
products and solutions.Responding to the ever growing demand from the markets
for a truly biodegradable “plastic”, PMTC stated in 2006 with the development of
PLA formulated compounds for injections molding, blown-film production, as well
as for calendaring of films. Production of PLA starts with fermentation of biomaterials
(corn, wheat, cassava starch, etc) to form glucose and then turn into Lactic Acid.
Followed by a Ring-opening reaction, the lactic acid is then polymerized to PLA.
The use of PLA can help to reduce waste and finite petroleum resources. It is a truely
environmentally-friendly, responsible, “green” polymer for the world.
