had close to 1,000 cars come by. The second was the Faith Rally which got rained on and caused the<br />
event to switch location but was still a successful event at their default site <strong>of</strong> Trinity Christian<br />
Academy. The event supported the back to school backpack program, and that the churches in <strong>Deltona</strong><br />
are excited to be able to give back to the community.<br />
f) Vice Mayor Denizac thanked Captain Brannon for organizing and coordinating the Volusia<br />
County Sheriff’s Office Ride-Along program. She stated that she was made aware <strong>of</strong> a vacant house in<br />
<strong>Deltona</strong> that was wired up to be a “grow” house, some <strong>of</strong> the vacant homes in <strong>Deltona</strong> are being used<br />
for illegal use, that there are literally piles <strong>of</strong> trash in <strong>Deltona</strong>, and she requested Mr. Denny to schedule<br />
a workshop as soon as possible to discuss beautifying <strong>Deltona</strong>. She discussed the <strong>Deltona</strong> Budget<br />
Forum which she felt turned out to be more <strong>of</strong> a “visioning session” and that she felt the turnout was<br />
very low. She stated that she was disappointed with the Votran meeting, even though the <strong>City</strong> sent<br />
R.S.V.P.s there were not enough seats made available to for <strong>Deltona</strong> Elected Officials to be at the table.<br />
She stated that she attended the “Be Healthy” Community EXPO and she thanked Mr. Moore for<br />
putting on a great community oriented event. She thanked Representative Santiago and Commissioner<br />
Lowry for supporting the food drive and she stated that the event overwhelmed her. She also thanked<br />
Commissioner Lowry for coordinating the annual Faith Rally, she stated that she feels God is still<br />
shining his face on <strong>Deltona</strong>, and wished everyone a Happy Fourth <strong>of</strong> July.<br />
g) Mayor Masiarczyk stated that the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office ride-along was a fantastic<br />
event and excellent opportunity to observe the pr<strong>of</strong>essional manner in which deputies react to real world<br />
situations and that the annual Faith Rally was a great event and that the indoor venue allowed people to<br />
attend that would not normally be able to because <strong>of</strong> the heat. He stated that <strong>Deltona</strong> has a population<br />
<strong>of</strong> around 20,000 children and that the 15 and under team from the Powerball Volleyball Academy<br />
located in Lake Helen, many <strong>of</strong> whom are <strong>Deltona</strong> and West Volusia residents, won the 15 and under<br />
(15U) National Volleyball Championship and have departed for Texas to compete in the <strong>2013</strong> United<br />
States <strong>of</strong> America Volleyball (USAV) Girls' Junior National Championships.<br />
12. CITY ATTORNEY COMMENTS:<br />
<strong>City</strong> Attorney Becky Vose wished everyone a Happy Fourth <strong>of</strong> July.<br />
13. ACTING CITY MANAGER COMMENTS:<br />
Acting <strong>City</strong> Manager Dave Denny reminded everyone <strong>of</strong> the Independence Day Waste Pro solid waste<br />
pick-up schedule. He also stated that the first two (2) days <strong>of</strong> the free Halifax Humane Society and<br />
<strong>Deltona</strong> spay and neutering program are scheduled for July 18, and July 25, <strong>2013</strong>, that the truck will<br />
arrive at <strong>City</strong> Hall at 7:00 a.m. to pick up animals scheduled for spay and neutering, and that<br />
appointments can be made with the Halifax Humane Society. Mr. Denny also stated that at 8:30 a.m.<br />
on Monday July 8, <strong>2013</strong> staff will present the first draft <strong>of</strong> the FY<strong>2013</strong>-2014 budget to the Commission<br />
and that budget books will be available for Commission review on Wednesday, July 3, <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
