Dear fellow asm2014 attendees,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Boston for asm2014, the 114th General
together professionals and students from around the world to advance their
science, network, and careers.
The General Meeting Program Committee has worked diligently to ensure that
asm2014 includes a diverse program that provides you with ample opportunities
to stay up-to-date on your areas of expertise, but also challenges you to explore
cross-cutting implications of world-class research.
In addition to the wide selection of workshops, scientific sessions, and poster
sessions that have made the General Meeting a must attend for all microbiologists,
asm2014 will also debut several new educational and networking opportunities:
Learning Labs will help you recall and analyze information, compare views, share
information, draw conclusions, and practice new skills; daily networking Happy
Hours will provide you with the opportunity to interact with speakers from the
day’s Plenary Sessions and other attendees; and asmONLINE will offer you the
chance to take home presentations from this year’s scientific program.
I also encourage you to join me at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19 for the
President’s Forum and State of the Society Address. We will open the session
with brief highlights of ASM’s accomplishments over the past year and discuss
some of our upcoming initiatives. This will be followed by this year’s President’s
Forum where Drs. Jo Handelsman and Graham Hatfull will highlight two
innovative programs, SEA-PHAGES and the Small World Initiative, which
have successfully integrated authentic, discovery-based research early in the
undergraduate curriculum. Come learn about the results of these visionary
programs and meet the instructors and students involved. This session is titled
“Tomorrow’s Microbiologists: Discovery-Based Research Courses for
Freshman Undergraduates.”
Please join me in thanking Dr. Arturo Casadevall (Chair of the Program
Committee), Dr. Nicole Dubilier (Vice-Chair of the Program Committee), and
the members of General Meeting Program Committee for their excellent work
in developing asm2014 and bringing together an amazing slate of speakers.
I look forward to seeing familiar faces, making new friends, and hearing
about the most recent advances in microbiology.
Yours,
