Painting The Desert Photo Workshop<br />

Cibolo Creek Ranch has partnered up with Wyman<br />

Meinzer [Benjamin], the Official Photographer of <strong>Texas</strong>,<br />

to offer shutterbug enthusiasts a unique opportunity.<br />

Cibolo Creek Ranch is located just 12 miles from<br />

Shafter and is an oasis in the middle of our beautiful<br />

Big Bend Country. Wyman emphasizes the use of natural<br />

light, and will also show how he uses a spotlight<br />

to “paint” his subjects after the days light has faded.<br />

Participants will learn how to capture the vivid colors<br />

of the desert by stroking their subject with a muted<br />

spotlight while utilizing the shutter control. Limited<br />

The Maine <strong>Photographic</strong> Workshops<br />

August 6 – 12<br />

Portaiture: A Personal Approach, taught by Harvey<br />

explore, and immerse ourselves in the exciting adventure<br />

Harvey Stein<br />

Harvey Stein [New York, NY] is holding several<br />

workshops this year: Lighting for the Portrait, Pinhole<br />

Photography, a special visit to Coney Island, and others.<br />

Stein is also holding a travel workshop to Taos, New<br />

Mexico that will include shooting trips to the Ghost<br />

Ranch area, the Rio Grande Gorge, Native American<br />

Alternative <strong>Photographic</strong> Processes<br />

Jill Enfield<br />

June 26 – 30<br />

The focus of this class is to introduce students to<br />

various non-silver photographic processes and to<br />

promote creative explorations. The students will work<br />

with cyanotypes (blue-print), van dyke brown (brown<br />

print) and platinum palladium printing among others,<br />

all of which we be covered in class. The use of enlarged<br />

negatives, hand-applied emulsions, fine quality papers<br />

and contact printing processes will provide new skills<br />

and open up many new creative possibilities. The class<br />

is open to all levels of experience and is offered by a<br />

well respected and accomplished photographer, Jill<br />

The Travel Photography of John Langmore [Austin] was<br />

shown at the Hyde Park Bar & Grill in Austin.<br />

Natural Elements, including work by Angilee Wilkerson<br />

[Denton, <strong>Texas</strong>], was on display at the Kirchman<br />

Gallery in Johnson City.<br />

Photographs by Linda Hirsch [Wayland, MA] was<br />

recently selected to be in Sargent and Hartson Galleries<br />

Winter Juried Show II.<br />

Eye Speak, a collection of Prints, Prose, Verse, & Musings<br />

by photographers Jayne Irby & Melanie Levin<br />

[Dallas], consisting of 110 black and white and color<br />

images was at the 14th Street Gallery in Plano.<br />

Diana Hooper Bloomfield [Raleigh, NC] recently had<br />

work juried into the Soho Photo Gallery’s 2nd Annual<br />

Alternative Processes Exhibit, in New York, NY.<br />

Martha Grenon [Austin, TX] had 12 photos in the Austin<br />

Chronicle in an article about the late Jesse Taylor.<br />

Harrison Fox [Venice, CA] won prizes at the Oscar<br />

Scherer State Park’s Earth Day <strong>Photographic</strong> Competition<br />

in Florida, as well as at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens<br />

26th Annual Juried <strong>Photographic</strong> Exhibition.<br />

Scott Mahrer’s [Egg Harbor Township, NJ] Lighthouse<br />

Stairs was accepted into the 26th Annual Juried Photography<br />

Exhibition held at the Ocean City Arts Center,<br />

Ocean City, NJ.<br />

Hannah Neal [Austin,TX] had an image accepted in<br />

Light on Music a juried show at The Darkroom Gallery,<br />

New Orleans Center for Fine Art Photography.<br />

North Harris College featured the three person exhibition<br />

of Bill Wright, Alice Wright [Abilene, TX]<br />

and Mitch Wright [Austin, TX] during FotoFest. The<br />

exhibit continues to travel having been to the UK,<br />

Peru, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and many<br />

locations in <strong>Texas</strong> and the US.<br />

The May 2006 issue of Photonews included three photographs,<br />

including the cover image, from Andrew Z.<br />

Glickman’s [Bethesda, MD] subway commuter series.<br />

An additional image from this series was published<br />

in March in Zachary Schrag’s book: The Great <strong>Society</strong><br />

Subway: A History of the Washington Metro.<br />

Steven Rood [Valley Village, CA] received an Excellence<br />

Award from Black & White magazine for the<br />

Portfolio Contest 2006. Rood will have a 4 page layout<br />

in the 240 page Special Issue in June.<br />

Amy Blakemore [Houston, TX} was a participant in<br />

the 2006 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of<br />

American Art in New York City.<br />

Royce Ann Sline [Houston, TX] had 2 images accepted<br />

into the Visual Arts Alliance Show, held at the Williams<br />

Tower Gallery, juried by Sally Sprout, in Houston.<br />

Escape From Desert Island, Photographs and Sculpture by<br />

Samuel Davis [Las Vegas, NV] was exhibited at Donna<br />

Beam’s Fine Art Gallery, Maryland, in March.<br />

Susan Bowen’s [Brooklyn, NY] had an image in St.<br />

Joseph’s College’s Images of Social Justice. Susan also<br />

had an image at the NYC Soho Photo Gallery’s 8th<br />

Annual Krappy Kamera Competition.<br />

Ann Texter [Georgetown, TX] had work selected for<br />

the Smithtown Township Arts Council 27th Annual<br />

Juried Photography Exhibition and an exhibit at the Mill’s<br />

Pond House Gallery in St. James, New York.<br />

Blender, a group exhibition of 22 artists, at the Sundaram<br />

Tagore Gallery, NY, included work by Stan Gaz<br />

[New York, NY].<br />

Lynne Jaeger Weinstein’s [Putney, VT] Botanicals:<br />

2003–2006 show was at the Catherine Dianich Gallery<br />

in Brattleboro, VT.<br />

Linda Hirsch [Wayland, MA] recently had 3 small<br />

pieces from her Cuba 2004 Series – Little Bites at Gallery<br />

at 38 Cameron Juried Exhibit in conjunction with North<br />

Cambridge Open Studios.<br />

Laura Jean Zito [Philadelphia, PA] was in several<br />

group shows including Photowork ‘06 at the Barrett<br />

Art Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the Art Show at<br />

the Dog Show in Wichita, KA. Also, she was reviewed<br />

in the Philadelphia Inquirer for her work in Earth, Air,<br />

Fire, Water at Salon des Amis Gallery, Malvern.<br />

The Women’s Festival of the Arts included work by<br />

Amandine Nabarra-Piomelli [Irvine, CA], Viewpoint<br />

<strong>Photographic</strong> Art Center in Long Beach, CA.<br />

Tony De Bone [Oakland, CA] had an image accepted<br />

in Soho Photo’s Alternative Processes Competition in<br />

New York. The exhibit, was juried by Christopher<br />

James [Dublin, NH].<br />

Doug Hawks, [Diamond Bar, CA] took top honors<br />

in two categories at Exposure 2006. The 8th annual<br />

competition presented by Hellada Gallery, Epson,<br />

Freestyle <strong>Photographic</strong> Supplies and Los Angeles<br />

Photographers awarded Mr. Hawks 1st place in the<br />

juried No Boundaries competition.<br />

Eric Weller [San Marcos, TX] had 24 photographs in<br />

an exhibit at the University of Dallas as well as other<br />

exhibits around <strong>Texas</strong> such as the Brazosport College,<br />

the Ira M. Taylor Memorial Gallery, Hardin-Simmons<br />

University and the Jean and Durward Howard Galley,<br />

Cultural Activities Center.<br />

Eight of Frank Hamrick’s [Las Cruces, NM] photographs<br />

were reproduced in the last issue of The<br />

Southest Review.<br />

Fred Baldwin and Wendy Watriss [both Houston]<br />

juried the 2005-2006 Fellowship Program at Houston<br />

Center for Photography and <strong>TPS</strong> member Sara Rytteke<br />

[Miami Shores, FL] is the recipient of an HCP’s<br />

Fellowship.<br />

Margaret Williamson [Salado, TX] had four black<br />

and white images in an exhibit at the Cultural Activity<br />

Center in Temple, TX and received the Award of<br />

Excellence for Photography at the Barclay Arts Council’s<br />

recent competition of visual arts.<br />

Sarah Carson [Dallas, <strong>Texas</strong>] has a new book, Montestigliano,<br />

A Tuscan Farm. It is a collaboration of photos<br />

of a farm in Tuscan, Italy from the past 18 years. Words<br />

by Susan Pennington support the photographs and<br />

tell a story. Photographs are available for view at the<br />

AfterImage Gallery, Dallas or on Carson’s website at<br />

www.sarahcarsonphotography.com.<br />

Allison V. Smith’s [Dallas, TX] photographs in Marfa,<br />

<strong>Texas</strong> was published in Blue Eye Magazine’s 11th issue.<br />

Polly Chandler {Austin, TX] was recently published in<br />

Shots Magazine, Spring 2006 and The Sun.<br />

Ginny Lee [Springfield, IL] has a silver gelatin print<br />

in the LaGrange National XXIV exhibit at LaGrange<br />

College, Georgia.<br />

Debra Rueb [Webster] will be exhibiting her Tammy<br />

photograph series at the Freeman Memorial Library in<br />

Houston in Clear Lake City during May and June. She<br />

will have a photograph in the Positive-Negative Exhibit<br />

at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins,<br />

Colorado thru June 19th. Also, Debra will have<br />

a photograph, along with 3 of her students work, in<br />

the Mentor Show, which is a show of local High School<br />

and College students art work at the The Arts Alliance<br />

Center at Clear Lake in Nassau Bay. This show is April<br />

27th to June 1st.<br />

Jesse Herrera [Austin] recently had two photographs<br />

included in the juried exhibit hosted by the City of<br />

Austin’s 2nd Annual Juried Competition. The exhibition<br />

is hanging in the new Austin City Hall building.<br />

An image of Linda Winski’s was selected for the<br />

Positive-negative exhibition at the Center for Fine Art<br />

Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado.<br />

In conjunction with Fotofest, Tracy Anne Hart’s<br />

[Houston,TX] photographs of reborn Architectural<br />

structures Afterimage was recently at the Minnette<br />

Boesel Properties, Inc. in Houston.<br />

Ann McDonald [Lubbock] was among 55 artists to<br />

be chosen for the Juried Gallery of the Lubbock Arts<br />

Festival in April.<br />

Collaborations: Photographs by Tim Roda [Helena,MT]<br />

was at Ohio State University, Art Gallery, in Neward,<br />

OH.<br />

Ken Rosenthal [Tucson, AZ] had an exhibit , in Houton,<br />

at the Center for Performing Arts.<br />

John Bernard [Houston] was in a group exhibit, at the<br />

J P Morgan Chase Heritage Hall.<br />

Mike Rosebury [Lake Worth, FL], with medical<br />

writer Charles Goldthwaite had an exhibit: Forgotten<br />

Shreveport, 75 contemporary photographs of the<br />

city’s abandoned and neglected spaces, at ArtSpace in<br />

Shreveport, LA.<br />

The Art Complex Museum’s, in Duxbury, MA, Winter<br />

Juried Show, included photography by Linda Hirsch<br />

[Wayland, MA].<br />

The Preservation <strong>Society</strong> of Chapel Hill recently presented<br />

Handmade Photographs by Rob McDonald [Lexington,<br />

VA] at the Horace Williams House in Chapel<br />

Hill, NC.<br />

Ray Esposito [Alpine, <strong>Texas</strong>] has created a blog market<br />

art and photography. He invites <strong>TPS</strong> members<br />

Gerhard Bock [Davis, CA] is a founding member<br />

of the <strong>Contact</strong> Printers Guild, an international association<br />

of photographers dedicated to traditional and<br />

alternative photographic processes. The group currently<br />

New Gallery<br />

TCC Photographs has announced the newest addition<br />

of a photography gallery located at 207 N. Center<br />

Street in downtown Longview that opened in March.<br />

Longview native and <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Photographic</strong> Member,<br />

Tammy Cromer-Campbell, will be partnering with the<br />

Gregg County Historical Museum archive by offering<br />

fine art quality images from their vintage collection as<br />
